I made about 10 million gil / 3 days on Cerberus EU with this method.

Video is 4 months old though.
I don't know Cerberus but materia market pretty crashed unless you lucky on getting crafting materia.

Yes it is, but I tried to do it this week to see if it still worked on Cerberus and lo' and behold I made 10 million gil.

Of course it's a bit RNG but still in the long run it's not, the thing which sells for more than 5 cheap materia VI are craftman + gatherer (about 500-600% profit. Savage aim and might about 100% profit and quickarm about 20-30% profit) those are 11 different materias and together you'll get 3860% profit in 11 materia then there's the "shit" materia which you will lose 80% of the value those are elemental and the stat stuffs so if my math is correct those are 9 different materia. So (3860/11) - (20x9) = 170% net gain.

this method is good to make money in a long run with some fund (if your luck is not reallyyyy badddd)
but it's mostly luck-based and not recommended for people with low fund unless you wanna go "win big or lose everything" route.
also it's better to put in 4-5 different types of junk/cheap materia because that increases the odds of getting red/crafter/gatherer materia.
please note that the outcome will always be different from the materia you used...
so in the vid you are very lucky to not get many other stat materias or elem res ones.

ps. check server's market first.. for me...i tried to make sure that my 5 try on transmutation will cost less than 1 crafter/gatherer's

Yes I agree you need a small budget, but just buy some cheap DoH and DoL gears next to the market board and sell them for a profit to get a nice economy flowing:

I used to do that with vendor mats, then someone started selling them for 1 gil.

I've made most of my money for a large house by just hunting SB A/S ranks regularly and selling the materia for 60-80K each based on the current market fluctuation.

I made 100 million by crafting. Go figure

This is correct. I'd like to add that one should also only use materia of the same grade (I-VI) because the result will usually be the lowest grade that was used (sometimes a higher grade procs).

There are 24 types of materia. If 5 different types are used in the transmutation, that leaves 19 possible materia types as a result. The chance to get a specific type of materia is therefore 1/19. Multiply this with the price of each materia on your server and add up those values to estimate your total winnings.

Example from my server:

Dex VI, Int VI, Mind VI, Pie VI and Quickarm VI are 20k gil each. Total cost is 100k gil, so we want to win more than that on average from transmutations. The best resulting grade VI materias and their prices are listed below.

Savage Aim Materia: 130k
Savage Might Materia: 100k
Heaven's Eye Materia: 120k
Craftsman's Command Materia: 714k
Craftsman's Cunning Materia: 660k
Craftsman's Competence Materia: 650k
Gatherer's Guerdon Materia: 370k
Gatherer's Guile Materia: 410k

Multiply the prices by 1/19=0.05263 and add them up.

0.05263 * (130k+100k+120k+714k+660k+650k+370k+410k) = 166k

From these expensive materia types alone one would gain (on average!) 166k for every 100k worth one puts in the transmutation. The small amount of gil from the cheaper types of materia is extra on top of the 166k. If you want to be precise you can do the calculation using all 19 types of materia you may receive from the transmutation.

On my server, if you are not into crafting, you could make good gil via hunts and sell the grade VI DoW/DoM materias if you have time and patience that's it.

I Made most of my by playing with market board, buying stuff that were really cheap and then after sometime they just skyrocket, for example this last month on my server crafter demimaterias were really cheap at around 30k, this last week they were selling for 130k and i had a good profit of over 5 mil by spending less than 500-600k

also for those that are not into fflogs rainbow percentile like me, i always sell all the VI materias from 24man raids, leveling roulettes and hunts

Crafting and gathering jobs are the best way to make a lot of Gil efficiently. However, the amount of time you are required to put in leveling one to where it starts getting you money is just... mind-boggling...

So I was really happy when Stormblood came out and I saw how easy it was to get Materia VIs. With some of them reaching 300k at the time, I was easily able to get over 10 million Gil in under a week. As someone who had never touched crafting/gathering, I felt like that was quite an accomplishment.

They dropped to under 200k and are now fluctuating between 70k-100k, so it's not as easy as it was then. But honestly? Between hunting A/S-ranks and tanking leveling roulettes for Materias worth 85kish on average, I'd much rather do that to earn money than level up a crafting class. Especially when there is virtually nothing you can do in this game with hundreds of millions of Gil.

And I think that's a huge flaw in this game. Not only that there's nothing to do with the money (other than controlling the market), but that there's really only one incredibly boring way to do it efficiently.

Well, gratz, but there are easier ways to make gil. xD And much faster. Selling wind/lightning crystals will net you a lot. Probably not as much as it did a month ago (when a friend was making a million per hour) but they're still worth gil and you only need to be lvl 25 in bot/min. I'm not criticizing. It's just the RNG factor. You might as well send your retainers on endless quick ventures in hopes of getting something worth a ton.

The prices of materia are crashing fast. I'd suggest you save them until 4.2 comes out. They'll be releasing new recipes and there will be a rush on getting the materia then because, for the most part, the only stuff you can craft right now is the crafter/gatherer set. I know a lot of other people are waiting buying or making a set until 4.2.

Not just that, any crafting materials that are currently being used will most likely be in high demand in 4.2. Patchday always nets me 10s of million. Just do it smart and don't flood the market

How is crafting and gathering a flaw? You've never taken the time to level your crafting/gathering classes. Getting ONE crafting class to level 30 doesn't give you the proper perspective to judge whether or not it's a flawed system, and your one DoL job is fishing (which is soul crushing in every game that it's in.) The "real" crafting starts when you level cap. Leveling crafting and endgame crafting is two different things. Is it the funnest thing to level? Maybe not, but leveling a DoW/DoM job from 1 to 30 can be tedious too and isn't a reflection of class at level 70. Just imagine a level 15 Marauder declaring that the warrior class sucks and is flawed.

You can also make gil when leveling if you gather the right stuff. SE makes a habit of having mats from all levels so, for example, most of SB ingots take mats you gather from level 1 ~ 50. There's also crystal farming, which becomes available at level 25 nodes. You can make a ton off that.

I probably should do this...use up all the materia I have that don't see for much than their base amount. Could probably end up with a pretty penny from it all even.

I got Armorer to 30 because I thought that was the level you had to be in order to make glamour prisms, which at the time were going for a lot of money. I thought that would be a good way to make some money. To my dismay, once I reached 30 and found out I actually had to be level 50 AND go through some ridiculous quests on top of that, I just gave up completely.

I eventually got FSH to 70 because I thought it'd be a more fun way to make money. I was wrong. I should have gone with one of the other two. But even that isn't the most efficient way. Cuz after the disappointment that was my level 70 FSH, I actually looked into it and found that it doesn't even pay to have just one class at 70 - you need a bunch of them. Now people just sit with capped Verity, when really they could be giving people who like PvE a way to interact with the crafting players by providing items that are in demand. Crafting players get millions and millions of Gil that they never get to spend (because there isn't anything to buy, really), while PvE-focused players sit with their Verity/Poetics. Good job, SE.

But I guess in the end, it doesn't matter anyway. I already have a house, and more money than I could hope to spend anyway. However, not everyone is in my situation, and I just don't feel they should be obligated to pour hours and hours into mindless, pointless grinding just to get a crafter to 70. Like, maybe if they at least made storage and inventory management easier. But the fact that we have to visit retainers and keep dumping items around every time we want to craft stuff is just infuriating.

Though I guess not as infuriating as this forum's pointless 1000 character limit.

One of the best sources of revenue for a DoW/DoM are treasure maps. I run maps with 4 friends. An average night, about 2 hours completing 10-15 maps:
Average Results:
200 - 400K direct Gil payouts
200K - 1Mil in loot is a pretty average night.
Maps on my board are dirt cheap, below 20K. Thus, a 40K - 60K investment returns 10-15x Gil value (I can gather them if I feel like it to increase my profits too).

Another great source is related to crafting but does not require high level crafting (lv30 in one crafting class). That is Desynthesis. After you level it up, all that useless dungeon gear can be converted to raw materials and sold. Much better value than GC seals.

Dusklight Aethersands will net you 1-2mil per hour if your server economy isn't crap. Works like a charm for me. Easy to farm.

How is this possible if crafting is the only way to make money? The methods I gave were for gathering. A guy in my FC has exactly one gathering class leveled to 50 and zero crafting classes, and still makes (or made) a million gil an hr. I, personally, just bought 1.5 mil worth of wind crystals from someone off the MB. SE put many ways in the game for people who don't have high crafters and gatherers. Silver, cobalt, and iron ore, all ARR ore (aka mining level 1 ~ 50) are needed to make ingots in SB. You could make a fortune farming the dust you get as a level 70 FSH. SE does this to help the new player or the ones leveling gatherer/crafter make money while leveling.

There is no get rich quick scheme. They all take time. That's just life. You get as much as you put in. If you don't wish to invest the time then don't complain about it and cry hax.

Materia still sells well? Thought drops from expert dungeons would have crashed market by now.

Crafting and gathering materia is always, always a good option to shoot for, if you can. The rest are a bit more iffy -- sell them on reset days. If you can stand to wait, I would store them until 4.2 or sell fewer of them. Like one crafter VI is around 300 ~ 400k on my MB, which sounds a lot, but they can go as high as 1 ~ 2 mil when the demand is high. There isn't as many ways to get crafter/gatherer materia, outside of a few ways (WT, SBing, or luck) since they don't drop in dungeons and you can't buy them with seals.

That would of been true, instead this tier for tanks, crafted accessories were mostly best in slot thank to melding 5 materias, beating out even augmented and savage level gear thanks to their better substats.

Tried on Odin, Lich and Phoenix (alll EU) as well and I had no problem in making money (Odin was especially good).

As for verity, there are verity mats you can buy to sell. Scarlet urushi is a good one to sell. (Sell in pairs)

There is only one currency in the game right now you can’t make money from and that is creation. Other than that check out the vendors you might find something good.

That feel when I have 500 millions gil but can't buy a house because not available on my server. That was a lot of useless crafting/desynthing/hunting.

I've actually done just this and gotten elemental or stat materia several times, so although it might seem to increase your odds, it isn't an absolute method of prevention for getting those types.

^ Yeah but if I am correct, if you put in an INT V, it can't become an Int V, so instead of using 5 of the same materia, spread them out with the most worthless ones.

The problem is not the money. Gil are very easy to make. I have enough to buy 2 large houses and decorate them. The problem is there are not enough plots. Even after 4.2 there will still be people without one despite having the gils.

But gil can be awesome for other stuffs aswell, such as leveling up DoH and DoL classes, gearing up for end game and heck if you are into pet collection it helps with that aswell. And don't forget the true endgame, glamours!

Yeah shifty making with master mutamix rarely gives the materia you want.

Assuming the chances of getting each materia from Mutamix are even and all of the materia you're using are of different types (I personally use dexterity, mind, intelligence, piety, and skill speed if I'm burning clusters on this), you'd have about a 46% chance of getting a DoL/H materia that's generally worth more then all five materia put together.

It's still likely going to be too much of a gamble to be very profitable, though.
