QoL: DRGs keep stacks after BotD fades

TL;DR bolded.

With other jobs, time isn't a factor with maintaining stacks or your gauge. Most build up and have no timer whatsoever. Of course MNKs have always had Greased Lightning, but their Chakra stacks do not decrease after time. More towards my point, BLMs need to maintain Astral/Umbral to fill their Enochian gauge (which can be done forever without a target thanks to Transpose having a lower CD than their status). If a BLM fills their Enochian gauge and builds a stack of Polyglot (used for Foul spell), that Polyglot status will remain even if the BLM loses their Enochian. This is what I want for DRG.

If Blood of the Dragon is lost, keep all stacks that have been gained and when you turn BotD back on those stacks are still there waiting. You should not be able to gain more stacks or execute Nastrond without being in BotD (even with 3 stacks, need that BotD on). This change wouldn't break anything and would put DRGs on par with how other gauges and resources work.

I don't know how I feel about that, some of the only challenge to the job in stuff like o4s is not losing your botd. Losing botd would lose its meaning if this change were to happen

Well you still would not be able to gain stacks or use Wheeling Thrust, Fang and Claw, or Georskogul/Nastrond without BotD on. Sure the lower CD time makes it less of a penalty, but the thing is this isn't about individual skill but rather accounting for downtime between pulls or individual fights where the boss is untargetable. Not all of us are the 1% that go to clear all of Savage and need lesser job optimization to create challenge.

I wouldn't go as far to say that botd would lose its meaning or that maintaining botd is even remotely challenging. Maintaining Botd became even easier with the Lance mastery trait, allowing you to use both FnC and WT back to back, not to mentioned the reduced cd on botd itself.


This change is pretty much the same thing that BLMS have with polyglot and Foul, there isn't any reason to not implement a similar system for DRG. I approve.

I think the comparison with BLM is not suited, while it is much easier to maintain enochian, the benefit isn't also the same.

+1. a slow tank is literally my worst enemy when i'm sitting at 3 eyes and watching my botd timer tick down :'))) it's funny bc i actually leveled my blm sometime after i hit 70 on drg, and the first time i was about to lose eno, i was freaking out bc botd basically taught me that if time runs out, you lose everything. needless to say i was pleasantly surprised when i didn't lose the foul i had previously...

Gaining polyglot is more akin to gaining LoTD than the eye stack
Dropping enochian before acquiring polyglot is the same as dropping BotD since your progress towards it is lost and you have to start again

Polyglot is a single stack on a timer and requires no actual input while dragons stacks are 3 tiered and require jumps w/ mirage dive so a 1:1 comparison doesn't work. BLMs can use transpose to keep enochian up forever but the CD on BotD doesn't allow us to do that.

On the other hand, assuming both DRG and BLM loose their respective buff (stun or phase transition for instance) DRG jump CD are still refreshing allowing you do quickly reach nastrond stance (dunno the name), a BLM would need to start all over again.

I honestly don't think tour qol is required. I think it is fine that some transition make you loose your momentum, this is anyway compensated by CD refreshing etc.

Im no DRG expert but I hardly find botdg to be an inconvenience, yes there will be time where I'll loose it (all transition mostly), but the same is true for most job. Your example with BLM is also not very good as sometime while you'd be able to keep transposing, you'd still loose a fester because youd be enable to simply use it on anything (mostly happen in dungeon tho)

Imo a real qol would be to shift the gap closer gain to something else. I really hate having to use this skill this way.
It has a very long cooldown and although I lack practice, there's been many case where I wish I could have saved it.
Perhaps making the regular jump a gap closer too would solve the issue

This was the first thing we wanted in SB and they have made a bunch of different changes to compensate. Doesn't appear they will do this, they have sure done a lot to avoid it.

While I'm all for clearing some of the clutter on DRG, the biggest issue of this proposition is, that you will be able to pre-gain 3 eyes before boss fight, kicking of Life of The Dragon right at the start of fight at you leisure - most likely ~3 GCDs after pull, when all the party buffs trigger and then making 2 Nastronds under effect of those cooldowns (Litany, Trick Attack, etc, etc).
I'll be more in favor of getting access to (building) LoTD faster, than having it waiting for you half-baked indefinitely.

This situation already exists for MNKs Forbidden Chakra, NINs Ninki skills, SAMs Midare Setsugekka, Hissatsu: Guren & Shinten, BLMs Foul, RDMs melee combo, or SMNs Dreadworm Trace or Summon Bahamut.

Nothing that other jobs don't already have.

Its something I would love. For dungeons it would be fantastic as I always seem to get the tank who wants me to lose my eyes. For savage content it would just be nice as not having your 4th/5th combos line up before a boss invulnerability is a pain.

Eyes falling off just feels like me fighting my class, not the enemies.

Yea it's super annoying and noticeable in V4s so my only issue is sometimes I forget to hurry up and recast BOTD at certain times to keep up BOTD but if I have to use lb3 rip to BOTD since it cancels combos before the 4th tier

This is random but does Life Surge ensure the DoT from Chaos Thrust is also Critical? I know a Ninja will have every tick from their Doton AoE be Critical if they use Kassatsu beforehand.

I was always under the impression that this wasn't the case with Kassatsu, I'll have to check that for myself. Likewise I always have believed the initial hit from CT would crit but not the DoT when using Life Surge. I'll have to test a dummy to find out for sure.
