Will chocobo mounts and special mounts be able to jump?
Since image of Jumping has been added in. We know you have jumping near ready. So hows mount jumping coming along?
Really, what is the point in jumping ; ;
I hope none of the mounts can jump. Chocobos however, they can easily tie this into Chocobo breeding -- For example Red Chocobos could be able to jump, while our favorite Light Blue and Dark Blue chocobos can traverse watery obstacles, while our trusty purp-black/gold (FFIX) chocobos can fly.
I think Chocobos should be able to jump, not sure about anything else. Hell if they are going to become NPC battle partners they will probably need it in order to follow us around :)
i think they mentioned in live letter that it is up for discussion
Still attacking her because of being insecure, eh? You did prove my point though, you just hate Final Fantasy in general because if you took the time to read her post (funny, after telling someone else they lacked reading comprehension) her post clearly stated that jumping mounts could be easily tied into the chocobo system rather than random mounts being able to jump.
Though after all, you're too busy attacking her out of your own insecurities to understand how that's an even better idea as it not only adds content to final fantasy xiv, it makes "My little chocobo" even more of a personal aspect.
I don't care if they do or not, but wanted to post in that kind of epic thread where a passionate argument should go for at least 10+ pages.
i agee with isaveron and it has nothing to do with insecuirty. why shouldnt our mounts be able to jump, but only boring specific chocobos? it is just silly. what if you are in mixed terrain with both obstacles and water? are we supposed to dismount, mount new mount, dismount, mount new mount? oh please
I think she assumed people were cemented into the FF games to realize traits carried over as you bred your Chocobo and used the colors as a specific example of what they did in older games.
A gold chocobo retained all traits of the Blue, Light Blue, Light/Dark Green and Black chocobo, for example, which means it can do everything, meaning thats your overall goal in raising a chocobo.
A Light and Dark Blue Chocobo were aquarian chocobos. Light blue can cross streams and rivers while dark ones can cross a bit of the ocean (deeper water), logically if you raise a Blue chocobo and raise it to become a Black or Gold chocobo, it'll retain it's ability to jump/dig/cross rivers/cross some deeper ocean.
Obviously being able to color your chocobo any color would change the "defined route" based on color because in FFXI you could train your chocobo specifically in traits no matter the color.
They most likely be able to since our PCs will be able to jump come 2.0.
Just what we need, time spent rendering jump animations for the 8 bazillion mobs mounts that will be released. I can't wait to ride my goobue pouncing through the fields.
gwuh...
The notion of that fills me with excitement actually... imagine it. Have a pounce button that makes the goobbue leap into the air/lunge forward with a big shockwave where it lands. Anything in a 20 malm radius would be staggered (stunned) and even hurt based on how close it was to the goobbue. Give it a 20~60s cooldown to curb obnoxiousness and whala! Would definately make things more exciting; especially for new players. Imagine venturing out of the starting city for your first time and "OMG WHAT THE #$%& IS THAT LUNGING AT ME! ........oh, thats a player?! THAT WAS AWESOME!"
EDIT: The pounce needs dust clouds and some screenshake too
to be able to move in the third dimension?
What's the point in walking forwards and backwards?
What's the point in swinging a weapon?
Whether or not you like jumping though, I don't understand why this question has come up. It would probably depend on the mount.
"White Goobbues Can't Jump"
Jumping allows for more freedom in level design, and it is handy in navigating over/around annoying little obstacles. The fact that a couple little kids will act like morons is not a reason not to have this beneficial function.
At any rate, if jumping is enabled, it might be a problem if one has to dismount and remount any time a jump might be actually necessary, so if we can jump, mounts probably will too.
Jumping is a great way to get your character stuck in some place it shouldn't...
What annoying little obstacles? They made everything "YOU CAN GO THROUGH THIS DURP" also walking around for 1 second is sooo much work.
There are more obstacles in life, I pretty much NEVER jump over em 99% of the time the 1% is the time I just wanna see if I can jump over it. Fact is, there is no need for jump
There isn't until they redesign the world map to take advantage of it like they are already doing.
maybe you don't need jump, but the rest of us would like it. It harms nothing and can only be helpful.
The only reason anyone EVER uses to attack it is "it's not "final fantasy" " or "People will jump around like idiots all the time."
To the former I say "Final Fantasy" is whatever the makers want it to be, and to the latter, I repeat, "A few idiots that act immature is not a reason not to implement a useful function.
Also: The world we have now was not built with jumping in consideration. The new world will be. When that time comes, you WILL have reasons to use it.
As long as it's not grossly unrealistic (e.g. jumping 4 times your height like Mario), jumping is a harmless function that can be useful when the world is designed with the understanding that the function exists. If someone wants to act like a retard with it, just blacklist them, ignore them, and move on. They'll stop as soon as they see that nobody wants to associate with them.
FINALLY, even in the current world there are still a lot of small ledges you can't simply walk off, rocks that are annoying and could be vaulted over if you could jump (A second saved is a second saved, I don't care if you think it's too small a benefit), and in particular, if you could jump, there are certain parts of places like Limsa Lominsa where you could get around much faster.
First off, they can make an interesting world without needing of jumping >.> look at FFXI
-People will jump around, it will bug the frick out of me and most people I know.
-This isn't a platformer, its an mmorpg, ya know, a simulator, kinda like for real lifeish
-Again, the world we live on RIGHT NOW, ya know earth, is suuuuper beautiful, you never have to jump.
-Again, not a big deal, takes 1 second to go around.
Swimming though, ya, I want that.
I don't know that jump would enhance my enjoyment of the game in any way. FF games have never been very "jumpy". However if it becomes a platformer I will be very disappointed.
I don't see why they can't jump over simple obstacles. Nothing outlandishly high like the races can... but just for basic obstacles.
If people jumping around aggravates you that much, then you should really take some time off of a video game. Why can't an MMO become a little bit of platforming too? Archers jumping to a higher spot to stay out of AoE range, delving through dungeons that require more than just tank and spank..
I mean you can do many things with jump, NOT just focus on people jumping in town.
Because the entire in game worlds collusion detection was based on an inability to jump. Thus to impliment it, they will have to spent a ton of man hours readjusting the world to remove all avaliable exploits players can use with jump. I prefere they use that time for real content, more classes, more jobs, and more anything but that in general.
-Don't say something that you have no idea, you don't know me ^.^
-A higher spot? Now we are going to get 50feet jumps? If its just a few feet above you, you should have to walk up it.
- MMOs I feel, should be a simulator, not maple story. Just play that if you want platforming you get TONS of it.
- You will still be tank and spank no matter what..........
-No, no you can't, not in an "turn" base mmo, in an action mmo, yes maybe, but this is not an action mmo.
Only way I will support jump, if its "Press x" when you get to a stupid ledge.
Only if the game is designed for it -- Most MMOs don't even allow you to bypass obstacles just because you can jump.
The ability to change your direction from front/back to left and right is already 3-dimensional movement, you don't need to jump in order to have 3D movement, utilizing a joystick or mouse for movement alone is 3-dimensional movement.
Did you not get the point that they are redesigning all the maps? You can't be that thick can you?
Just crying to me is all I see.. jump is already being added, so you might as well start accepting it now.Quote:

It actually wouldn't as be horrific as one could imagine. Unlike some companies, *cough*Activision*cough*, Square Enix already has a very sophisticated collision detection system implemented in the world. Manually adding invisible walls to the world would have been outrageously time consuming on such a large game like XIV, and from what I've been able to experience during lag-outs where I fall through the ground and can kinda just lol around, the collision detection is automatically generated either pre-processed or during render.
Simply put, even areas of the world outside playable limits have detection boundaries. Rocks, walls, cracks, houses, etc all the way up to the top of cliffs we shouldnt be able to reach and all the way down to the ocean embankments have collision detection already applied and work flawlessly if you manage to reach those locations. And when you run off those knee-high walls you "fall" and don't clip through the ground so a little engineering and it should work great.
I'm sure there would be minor touch up issues, but none could be bigger than the current (unless ninja patched) issue where you can fight and kill monsters from underground without getting hit. Compared to that, well, being able to clip through a rock isn't going to be game breaking lol
If there adding players option to jump they must add it for mounts. It really depends on how they shape the land. Players will just dismount.. jump.. mount reguardless if they need to do shortcuts threw the landscape.
WTF am I reading
Those are the basics of an RPG, thanks, but have you ever seen a special role playing in Jumping until now on a turn-based/real-time RPG like the Final Fantasy series? (WoW, Aion, Rift and sh*t too)
It all depends on how they want to implement it at the end. If there's a point on jumping on a mount (even if seeing Goobbues jumping could be a lil' disturbing) then it might be implemented. If that's just for fun I think it's just waste of time since Jumping is not required for an RPG to have an important role.
But hey, I can be impressed if they actually give a good role into jumping =)
Yes. Xenoblade Chronicles. The battle system is even very similar to FFXIV in a lot of ways and the landscape feels like it belongs in an MMO. You can jump over gaps and such but you cannot jump when engaged in battle which is exactly how it could work in FFXIV.
Ugh... I'm really sorry, I've started the post so bad, I didn't want to make it like that, guess I was pretty tired when I wrote that =)
Anyway! It basically depends on the RPG we're playing. In some, jump is needed and in some not. I just can't see now a good use of the Jump thing other than screwing around with it, that's all. Still though, we'll see when they're gonna revamp the maps, maybe jumping will be helpful. We'll see =)
p.s. again, sorry for that, was very childish.
Yeah let's just shit on half the playerbase with bad connections and continue to add positional and reaction based content that kills them all the time.
Hell nobody at all can rely on "Timing" as it stands and it will probably continue to be a issue of some sort even in 2.0
oh please it is 2012 now. everyone have access to at least 24mbit connection now. supposedly lag issues are gong be fixed in 2.0 with new servers and al dat, and if not(witch i believe), then it is Enixsquare's quest to solve it. and if they cant, this game will flop.
