Best Mrd weapon

I went digging into the forums and could not find this topic. If there is one please provide a link if possible. What is the best MRD weapon. Ifrit? Moogle? Or multi slotted axe's. If it is multi slotted axe's what is the best stat? Vit, crit, attack power?

Ifrit & Moogle are the best weapons depending on the situation.

Ifrit = party play; Moogle = solo

I second this.

Moogle is better for tanking if you're using rampage too. As WAR it might become important since the bonus from the new WS will consume rampage.

Double/Triple Slotted+ Barbarian is also good, depending on the stats you get on it

Still, with 3 materias both barbie bardiche and demilune can beat ifrit and moogle in performance (depending of materias affixed, of course...i'm assuming the dude used the "right ones" for the purpose he would use ifrit or moogle axes).

I have neighter of the primal weapons but I'm enjoying my Parry slotted Demilude for tanking.

Ifrit and Moogle axes are the only weapons MRDs should be concerned about getting, in my humble opinion.

I'm late to the party here, but if you have no chance of getting an Ifrit/Moogle weapon, the best weapon you can obtain solo is going to be the new Corporal axes available for 4500 Grand Company Seals: Gridanian Labrys, Lominsan Bill, and Ul'dahn Bardiche.

Well, no it's not. But it's like i said...it depends of the materia. 3 tier III materias really won't surpass it, but 3 tier IV does surpass it.

What triple melds would you use on a crafted Axe? Crit dmg? Parry for tanking? Stats?

Guessing it's someone who doesn't have Ifrit's and/or is just really proud of his triple melded axe.

If you talking about me, i don't even have a double slotted weapon. I don't give a crap to e-peen...i was just talking about materia stacking effects in comparison to ifrit/moogle weapons...in any moment i said i had one or another...

How do you know this? As far as I can tell, 20 DMG from a weapon VASTLY outperforms 20 STR. From just messing around on lvl 50 Drubbers, a difference in 20 weapon DMG was like 20-30 points of damage. With STR though, 20 STR at most increased my damage variance by 3-5 points of damage.

Increases in damage are even more noticeable on Ifrit when you switch from Canopus Bill to Ifrits Axe. The effects of attributes suck, this is why naked Ifrit runs were/are possible >_>.

Well, canopus bill never really was a good weapon...even at 1.18, when it was added. And a weapon like barbie bardiche can be up to +97 atk bonus if triple slotted to counter the +20 damage and +30 attack of ifrit. Or +96 atk and +12 crit if triple slotting a demilune against the +30 damage and +30 attack of ifrit. (just used NQ numbers at both). Also, if not mistaken they being HQ would add around +10 damage to both barbie and demilune (if anyone can confirm the HQ damage bonus i appreciate...i'm keeping in mind the bonus from +2 weapons before 1.20 since they said the bonuses were even to +2 at patch notes...but never really checked it), mitigating even more the ifrit axe's main advantage.

Parse or didn't happen. You're also leaving out Ifrit's damage proc. Ifrit is the best weapon you can have for pure damage.

Also if you honestly need a moogle proc to keep you going solo, you're doing it wrong. Moogle weapons were a step backwards after ifrit. I wouldn't solo on any class but Conj or Thm right now given the choice anyways.

Do you know that Base DMG, dlvl, attack power, and STR are all separate things, but combine to give you the DMG results?

Ifrit's Axe --- 171 Base DMG, +30 attack power

Barbarian's Bardiche --- 151 Base DMG, +7 attack power

The difference in it's base forms are obviously different being that Ifrit is greater, but let's take in account this Bardiche is triple melded.

If bardiche was melded with three IV tiered attack materia it could have a whopping total of +97 attack. The way that attributes work as of this last patch is in both modifiers only support attack. For instance, a MRD with a moderate amount of STR and VIT DMG modifiers floating around the 240-250 marks would only be suitable for mobs in a 45-48 Level range. Rather than someone who pushes against mob VIT or exceeds this limit on their attributes which in return pushes the attack through. Think of attributes as a latter trying to get over a VIT wall to combat mob's DEF. So, actually, yeah the numbers being +97 attack applied to one weapon looks awesome, but when it comes down to it, it'll show you incredibly inconsistent DOT.

You can mix up your materia and apply DMG attributes and attack and that would give you pretty substantial results. These builds greatly vary though between fighting Ifrit and Fighting moogle. Moogles have a VIT and DEF rating of the class they are in the Lv50-53 range. So, in order to hike that DOT way up you need your modifiers both at 280+. With Ifrit, this is a completely different story as his VIT is very high. So, this weapon is completely a head ache already since you need to develop it to be situational.

Now we'll get to base dmg. Your biggest problem in your declaration to a triple melded bardiche being better than and ifrit's battleaxe. Attributes and attack have soft caps, but they are based on your base DMG.

Let's visualize a staircase that has exactly ten steps. In Bardiche's case, it only has the power to climb at least to step 3 and max to step 5 before it tires out. Ifrit's Battleaxe has the power to climb to at least step 4 and max step 6 before tiring out.

The base DMG alone is enough to tell you that the weapon is superior even with the bardiche's potential triple meld. Don't get me wrong, a triple melded bardiche is incredible for what it is, but a high base DMG weapon + a moderate amount of attack power is always going to out parse it. End of story. Provided that the player knows what he/she is gearing for.

I was going to post some more expeculative text but it was too long already so i prefered making it short since everything you said (and what i was gonna say at start too) was completely obvious...

So mind in posting the empirical formula you using to assume the highest base DMG will always surpass the combination of the other damage components?

You're talking about a 20 base DMG difference between the two. You cannot acquire base dmg in place of any other attribute.

This is just a very educated assumption. Emphasis on the educated. If you'd like to triple meld a Bardiche and parse it against a properly melded [in gear] MRD with a Ifrit's Battleaxe, be my guest. I'm 99.9% sure that the Ifrit's Battleaxe will come on top.

Well, OK then. I thought you were using some of these empirical formulas created based on parse curves...some ppl are crazy/bored enough to do this kind of numerical methods =P

I just think that an overwhelming status difference in one or more components do can make up to another one...even if this one they are trying to make up is tha base dmg, that very often is an absolute value (no mods on it). It all depends of the mods of each component.
