PLD minor annoyances

Gripes:
1. Shield Swipe gives NOOO benefit to the class. I'm very close to taking it off my hotbar. I feel like when something procs that it should offer something. My thoughts; give a +5% block chance when you shield swipe the length of the buff is 10 seconds. Shield swipe cool down is 20 seconds.

Reason I say that is shield oath generation is more burst, which you can fill VERY fast with Bulwark, Passage of Arms. Nothing helps you generate oath faster unless you blow a large cooldown ability. Sheltron is counter productive since it's -50 for +5 oath. MP gain yes but I feel that is the MAIN use of the ability anyways.

I generally use sheltron after I open with rampart, shield lop, requiscat, flash, Holy Spirit x4-5, (Flash is stronger with req buff) Sheltron x2, Fight or Flight, Goring combo, Circle of scorn, (dots are more with FoF on) Royal combo, Goring combo, Flash, and repeat when MP at 80% or more.

Just to be clear you some how don't see the usefulness of a free off-gcd 150 potency attack that provides increased enmity every ~15 seconds? Or are you complaining about the pacification? Granted it does nothing in Raid settings, but the move does enough without it...

As for Sheltron, a gauranteed block (19-26% damage mitigation for one hit) and a return of 13.5% total mp... I'm not sure why you seem to think it is counter productive in terms of Oath return, since the only reason we have oath is as a resource to gate the use of sheltron (and intervention), that is literally all it is for.

If you want to be annoyed at pacification having very limited usefulness, I suppose that's your prerogative, but I don't understand your complaint about either of these moves.

Yup, having a hard time understanding the post.
Swipe is pretty much free potency and enmity, and is already good as is.

I'm simply arguing the relevance of the skill and how it works for the class. I bothers me that all it does is dps and such a moderate cool down. The pacification only works on normal mob's and a select few bosses. Enmity generation for the skill is low compared to others, but that is my opinion.

Don't get me wrong I see it's a simple skill to use, but just seems like unnecessary button filler considering the offerings. Much like Spirits Within, but is actually better since they dropped the silence and added more dps with higher HP.

Ever since 4.0 came out it seems like the classes push for face rolling the keyboard fitting style. It just feels less flowy then AAR. Call me crazy but WoW cataclysm skills, procs, and synergy is what I crave. Probably never happen but it flowed really well. 4.0 just kind of seems all over the place synergy wise.

I mean, right now PLD does dominate the SB tank scene, and a lot of this forum is decrying for buffs to DRK, but it's not like your complaints are completely ignorable... somewhat.

As far as how PLD plays: if it's not for you try out WAR or DRK and see if either of those are more up your alley.

There is no set back to using this ability. It is a) free damage b) free enmity and on a non raid boss c) free pacification. There is no need to adjust its effect. Shield swipe is so good.

I'm sure SE will fix this before they even acknowledge DRK's existence.

Shield Swipe is like... The best part of Pally in some ways. As the OT you're like CMON MAN USE SOME RAID WIDE AOES SO I CAN SHELTRON INTO A SHIELD SWIPE DARN YOU. DADDY NEEDS DAT HIT.

Talking about minor annoyances, Shield Swipe having a CD is a minor annoyance. I can't count the number of times when I get a proc (whether passively or via Sheltron) and it's on CD already. :(

It's FREE.....Why not use it?

dps, minor cooldown, added enmity benefit....for free....

Shield Swipe is free. You should use it and its on the OGCD.


PLD is in the best condition right now. I wish DRK had these small problems that PLD has.

Free dmg is free dmg! What's there not to enjoy? Next you'll ask to get rid of tempered will...

please don't use requiescat for buffed flashes

It's fine the way it is. It's free DMG and enmity and has pacification (which locks enemy abilities for 6s, excluding bosses) that +5% block chance sound like something from wow...

Shield swipe is fine, but I still really don't like it, the effects are so patchwork and you can see the failings of HW in it, they just kept piling abilities onto it until it was somewhat useful rather than putting serious thought into the skill. It's not a weak skill but I really want it changed to compliment PLD gameplay more. Oh and remove the pacify, it is dumb

while we're at it why not make fight or flight 30% physical damage increase in 30 seconds?
i mean that's what FoF was supposed to be before SE nerfed it to 25% in 25 seconds for some reason when 4.0 is officially out

25 seconds is better because it gives more uptime and makes PLD feel better to play, it might be a nerf (I don't know the maths) but from a playstyle perspective I have to be more aware of my buffs and need to balance requiescat and FoF usage, which is a lot of fun and a lot more gameplay than PLD had ever had.

Okay so I'll try to help here... Shield Swipe should be used as much as possible. It's actually free damage and enmity since it is not on the GCD. Use Sheltron to proc shield swipe. You should be able to get at most 4 a min, which is a whopping 600 potency. Shield Oath is trash. Horrible gauge generation and almost entirely useless. Swap out of that ASAP so you can build faster and proc shield swipe more using Sheltron.

DO NOT USE FLASH IN requiscat. Do not use flash period on single target. Ever. Use Halone combo 1 or 2 times depending on how geared you are & how much your party controls aggro then never again.

Every minute use Fight or flight before goring, do two Royal combos then end on Goring and start Requiscat combo.

@OP, pretty much this. Please take this advice and enjoy what you have. PLD was way worse in HW and is in a really good spot in SB.

I will agree somewhat with the OP’s sentiment in that I think they could find ways to make shield swipe more interesting and useful. As is, it’s just something you hit when it lights up and it serves absolutely no purpose when you’re off tanking unless you block an aoe or decide to sheltron an aoe for some reason.

Can’t edit on mobile, but a few ideas I had was refreshing the cooldown and lighting it up whenever someone you intervene/cover takes damage.

Also, removing its cooldown when bulwark is up.

The only changes i’d like to see to PLD atm are clemency giving gauge in shield oath the same way Holy Spirit does, I feel this makes sense considering you’re more likely to be on the defensive and healing yourself in shield oath than nuking with Holy spirit.

And requiscat duration being extended by a second to account for server lag, as an EU player on an NA server that tight timer drives me nuts.

I’d also like to see a change to the way blocking works so it compliments casting rather than opposing it but that’s more a change to game mechanics than PLD.

I mean, we can't deny it's a very boring ability, but at least it's off the GCD now. Remember when it wasn't?

Its worst to use 2 RoH combo

The real buff PLD needs is to it's job quest story. It was definitely the most lackluster of the three tanks imo.

I liked the colluseum story, I haven't interacted with the GLA guild in a long time and it was really nostalgic.
