I doubt this will ever-ever get fixed, its still a problem in XI. Its most likely why they dont have in-game options for a lot of graphical adjustments because the game cannot re-render.
Just play the game in windowed mode at your preferred resolution. Besides the window bar at the top, it's identical to the full screen setting.
the windowed isnt exactly great either due to the fact if u put it on 1920x1080 resolution on a 1920x1080 monitor the very bottom of the screen is not going to be visible, and since the windowed version doesnt have a working maximize/minimize button you are completely helpless to this problem.
Yes this would be a nice feature, i like to play in full screan mode but now that means im locked into my game.
i endorse this. Fullscreen help minimize processor and gpu work (it don't need to render the desktop and everything) resulting in better performance, too bad can't be tabbed :| hope in a fix for that, but my experience in ffxi tell that'll be looong
please add this, I play in 3d (which requires fullscreen mode) and can't access the web for crafting recipes and such while I play. It's seriously annoying.
If we learned anything from FFXI for PC, they never wanted to support alt+tab. Windowed mode is 'slightly' imperfect due to the windows bars on the screen, but honestly.. whoopdee-doo..
The only reason that i could see people having performance issues with running windowed mode is playing on a lower end system.
It would be an easier investment to have a small tablet or a smartphone hooked up to a Wifi connection and use it for keeping recipe's up and whatnot if you really find it that troubling.
To go further. If you can afford dual GTX / Radeon cards and 3d vision kits to play in 3d, it would be silly to now retort you cannot afford a $150-200 tablet
Windowed mode + Gamers Window Relocator = be happy
Google for Gamers Window Relocator and your problems with borders are gone
Since SE is lazy and will never implement Alt+Tab, the solution to the problem is to run FFXIV through Steam. When you switch to the steam overlay, there is a web-browser available.
I know ffxi didn't support this and I know there are many things I can do to avoid this but I also would like to see Alt+Tab implemented. It doesn't seem like that big of a deal to put in place to me.
Using AutohHotkey and this script.
^+a::
WinSet, Style, -0xC00000,a ; remove the titlebar and border(s)
WinMove, a, , 0, 0, 1366, 768 ; move the window to 0,0 and resize it to 1366x768
return
Copy this in txt and after that - rename in (example) FFXIV.ahk
And beautiful!) playing pseudo Full Screen and can use Alt+Tab
P.S.
^+a= Shift+Ctrl+A
im surprised nobody has mentioned the fact that using third party programs is a bannable offense and i have herd of ppl in FFXI getting banned for using third party software simply for the sake of being able to alt+Tab, back when FFXI didnt have its own windower that is.
I don't know how I so easily walk in to some of these little spouts. they are silly, and there is no point to them.
I have told myself I'd do better about not getting into bickery, and I will stick to it. I'm sorry Molly_Millions. I'm going to walk away from this. I should not of pushed such a simple, and arbitrary thing to a stupid level.
We're all here for a common purpose (hopefully) discuss the game, the pros the cons, and hopefully also how to make it better.
While this usually a PC game basic, I think the decision to not add it is due to the ease of running third party programs while FFXIV is running.
Anyone who wants to run a third party program knows how to work around the lack of ALT+TAB, so they are mostly inconveniencing their more casual players.
Of course, everyone has their old computer sitting around anyway. ALT-TAB would be nice, but then that old PC would truely be worthless.
I beleave this should be added as soon as possible, mainly because things like 3d, SLI and Crossfire require you to play in fullscreen. Also as some people have already said fullscreen lowers stress on PC components.
And the graphics will be alot better in fullscreen, not allowing alt-tab in fullscreen was one reason alot of people use 3rd party programs in ffxi (im sure you all know which one I'm talking about) and if we could alt-tab out of fullscreen it could make less people want to use 3rd party programs that could allow this.
Thing is SE has 2 choices here, add some kinda option or rework the game to allow alt + tab in fullscreen or ban 90% of the PC playerbase for using harmless 3rd party program that can convert windowed to fullscreen.
I have been barking up this tree since beta, good luck getting through to them.
anyone wanting to run a bot (Which i would not recommend) would just put the game in windowed mode in config, then when playing normally would simply restart the game in fullscreen when he or she is in front of the PC. so the fact that SE wont add Alt + tab seems pretty retarded anyway. It only takes a few seconds to force close the game and restart it in fullscreen or windowed. I had a lot of problems when I started using CrossfieX with ffxiv so I was switching between windowed and full a lot before I figured out what the problem was with the flickering UI. But thats a whole other thread which I wont get into right now
yes please
Windowed mode /thread
This thread clearly demonstrates why alt+tab will never be fixed.
If SE bans me for using an external program that enables me to have a feature that even the lowest quality f2p game out there has out of the box, well, it's their loss.
edit: Well, looks like at least it was forwarded to the devs or something: click
Whatever might come out of it...
Tearing is what happens when the game is redrawing the screen faster than your monitor can refresh it. What happens is that you start getting instances where the image breaks in the middle of it as its showing two different frames at once.
Wikipedia has a good example / explanation of whats happening with it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Screen_tearing
vsync forces it to only redraw at the max speed the monitor can handle. (Most standard LCD's is 60Hz / FPS)
And +1 for running XIV with crossfire. I have dual 5750's, when I built my machine it was the best performance per $ in my price range. A single 5750 however is not THAT great on its own and running XIV in windowed mode really slows down. Full screen performance is MUCH better when both cards can be fully utilized.
As for them having to redo parts of the graphics engine, this should have never been the case in the first place. Its a bug, and I will continue to label it as such till it gets fixed.
