i dunno about the rest of you playing xiv but I sure would like to be able to Alt + Tab to the desktop with the game crashing.

I doubt this will ever-ever get fixed, its still a problem in XI. Its most likely why they dont have in-game options for a lot of graphical adjustments because the game cannot re-render.
Final Fantasy XI was a port from the PS2 to the PC which then was ported to the 360 -- it wasn't rewritten for the PC.
If we learned anything from FFXI for PC, they never wanted to support alt+tab. Windowed mode is 'slightly' imperfect due to the windows bars on the screen, but honestly.. whoopdee-doo..
The only reason that i could see people having performance issues with running windowed mode is playing on a lower end system.
It would be an easier investment to have a small tablet or a smartphone hooked up to a Wifi connection and use it for keeping recipe's up and whatnot if you really find it that troubling.
Just play the game in windowed mode at your preferred resolution. Besides the window bar at the top, it's identical to the full screen setting.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
the windowed isnt exactly great either due to the fact if u put it on 1920x1080 resolution on a 1920x1080 monitor the very bottom of the screen is not going to be visible, and since the windowed version doesnt have a working maximize/minimize button you are completely helpless to this problem.
Not to mention the quality drop is quite significant.the windowed isnt exactly great either due to the fact if u put it on 1920x1080 resolution on a 1920x1080 monitor the very bottom of the screen is not going to be visible, and since the windowed version doesnt have a working maximize/minimize button you are completely helpless to this problem.
CrossfireX will not work in windowed mode :< and I like to use both graphics cards
