Why Stormblood killed ninja for me

I switched to ninja the moment it became available.

I liked it a lot in 2.x

It was kinda okay in Heavensward. But I nonetheless kept it as my main. Untill today.

So what went wrong? Did the job rework made it worse? Nah it is better than ever,
Were the job quests bad? Nah, I enjoyed every minute of it. The gear? Nope i finally looked like a ninja again.

So?

Well the problem is, Red Mage is too goddamn awesome. It is very fun to play, the gear is beautiful and the job story is the best. Especially with all the nods and callbacks. What's that X'rhun? You want me to go to the Gold Saucer? Finally it has a place in the story. By the way thanks for the extra background on Alisaie and Zenos. Hi Jessie. Good to see you. What's that? The Great Library? Been there twice. The Thaumaturge Guild? We go way back. Mhach? Been there. And lots of nice new lore.

The fight against Lambard was possibly the best solo fight in the game. And I loved the supporting cast. Both X'rhun and Arya. Nice GoT reference by the way. And Matrix.

If I really have to say something bad I'm going to mention that we never went to Kugane. That city is too good to not got there for at least a short visit. Maybe in the 5.0 job quests. I wonder how that will tie into the current story. Also very happy with the Nightkin as they are super close to vampires.

So...you made a clickbait title to talk about how you traded one dps class for the other because you liked the other? What's the point of this thread?

Mudras lag like crazy and ten chi jin is even worse...

I can't even use fuma shurilan without clipping gcds.

I've been on the same server ever since 1.0 originally saronia. Then merged to sargatanas. And I've never had issues before with lag or latency.

So there's a real reason why stormblood killed ninja. It's just unplayable at any decent level.

No reason to play other melee when there's samurai. The most saatisfying melee to date.

You're entitled to your opinion about RDM but I personally find the job to be very dull.
Apart from latency issues on occasion, I find NIN to be more entertaining at least as there's just more to do. Also, Froppy is the best pet in the game XD.

Not according to some of my recent dungeon runs. Some of those RDMs I saw were full time melee. :rolleyes:

Why not play both? Have Red Mage as your main and Ninja as your secondary.

I must be the only NIN main not tormented by latency...

I find RDM extremely boring. I haven't played it in over 2 months (other than occasionally in Frontlines).

Well at least it looks cool on screen though.
Use Raiton but then my character threw Shuriken at mob and lightning strike the moment shuriken hit.

I main RDM and OP's post makes me sad.

I'm another NIN main with latency issues.
I'm progressing through O4S with it right now but, I'm definitely switching jobs next tier. It's unbearable at times.

Why?

I cant blame OP, Red Mage is at a great spot right now. A new class, fan favourite, easy to play and does alot of damage. Red Mage reminds me alot of how Paladins were in Wrath of the Lich King, they were a fan favourite in the story, easy to play and all 3 specs were fantastic.

I hope they dont change Red Mage, but I do think some classes either need to have easier playstyle (less punishment when they fail) or make it so the harder the class, the more DPS they can deal.

Fuma > Raiton > Bunny killed ninja for me.

I leveled Astrologian on 2 of my alts through Stormblood and have another who is a whm that just reached endgame. I've since leveled dps on my two astro alts given i do not find the new mega pull meta to be much fun. RDM is a lot more rewarding and certainly a lot less stressful for me at least. Haven't decided yet what I'll do with my WHM.

To each their own.

I personally find SAM boring to play while I'm in love with monk gameplay. The huge damage numbers are nice and all... But I prefer the risk/reward Monk has with the positionals on every GCD.

Tell that to all raid groups. Nin and Drg will generally be preferred over a samurai. all a sam brings is big dps. Nothing for the rest of the raid

Unless I'm missing some meta trick elite players do, why would half your time/attacks be melee? You'd do your melee combo as part of the Flare/Holy combo or in aoe situations that aoe melee attack, but that's happening way less than half of your total attacks. Maybe 5-10% of your attacks/actions.

They said that because the red mages they got only used their melee abilities. So no need for a "correction".

I mean, good for you for playing what you want, but on the other hand you did switch from hands down the most wanted dps in groups and statics to one of the least wanted and most populated dps so...

I used to main MNK but I dropped it since I lvlled it to 70. Im still not sure wich DPS job I want to main but so far im liking for DRG for those reasons. It has the hyperactive feel of MNK with all the OGCD's to weave between the GCD's as well as the positioning. Although that has become somewhat problematic with fang and claw going back to back now with wheeling thrust. Reducing the cooldowns on the jumps including elusive also greatly increased their mobility.

I can go on a long rant on why I dropped MNK. But it boils down to lol rng and samurai taking mah jerrrb!

The FROG killed ninja for me.

The most selfish melee to date. Offers nothing for the party except damage. And unless you play it well, it barely offers that. They require all the buffs from other party members to be the "stud' you are claiming. i out dps them often on my bard. My pf's dont include them. ;)

That is also a thing to consider, true. Ninjas have a lot of utility, but they wouldn't be ninjas without tricks. I didn't delete my gear and sold my soulstone or anything, so it is still there to use if i had to, I just won't main it anymore as red mage is a lot more fun. I don't do savage raids all that much and when I do it will be with my FC, who will take me along anyway cause they like me.

And I outheal healers. And raise them when they die. So what's your point? Red Mage and Samurai are the new jobs so a whole bunch of people try them out fo curiosity. So of course there will be lots of bad ones. Even I mess up my rotation from time to time. It doesn't mean a good samurai can't hit like a truck and compensate for the lack of utility.

If he's out-healing the healer, then the healer is a bad is why.

Even excluding the fact Red Mage and Samurai were highly requested jobs (and are still a bit overpowered), I do think part of their popularity comes down to how well they work under the new combat systems, being that they were designed from the ground up with the new gauges and role skills in mind.

There is far less of the awkwardness that some jobs have from their skills being grandfathered into a gauge or holes from old strategies being cut from lost skills.

I really should level Red Mage since it has that utility I loved about 2.x SMN, but I like short queues.
