ps4 limitations
Heck yeah. I'd be in favor of an optional HD texture pack for PC clients.
I wish we could get the 1.0 graphics back (or better)
We have great story and such. Please make the game even more beautiful.
You guys should totes try out Reshade 3.0.
Reshade is good, but man do some of the options kill your framerate(MXAO I'm looking at you)
But yoy two misunderstood me.i am nor giving my opinion. I am just stating a fact. I dont think rhey sgould just assume all players with PC are capable to have HD. My computer can run with max settings and no lag like a few other players mentioned and say their pc has good video cards.
If SE provide us PC player with better graphics a HD patch to incorporate for us to enjoy while no bothering the others, then I am all for it. I get tired to hear how a percentage of the player population can't enjoy it and then whine and ask to reduce the in game graphic quality.
I think the major problem here is actually the game itself. I never realize that this game runs on 32-bit. What we need first, is a 64-bit game. 32-bit should be obsolete in this day and age...
But perhaps you are misunderstanding me. incorporating extra options would have no bearing on potato PC's unable to possibly use some or all of the newer settings. You can run most games now a days with a general low, medium, high, ultra (and some games higher than ultra). FFXIV really feels like it gives us low, medium, and high-ish on higher end machines, where it would be possible to test the limits of higher end PC's without affecting the lower end since most settings are individually adjustable on PC.
I never personally hear that the general population can't enjoy it or want LOWER settings. My husband plays on a potato PC and it runs extremely well on High settings (we only docked a few when SB hit to maintain high FPS but that was personal preference). He even used to run it on a PS3 which was just godawful. Maybe that's where you think some of the complaints are from, but as a whole, this game has a ridiculously low bar of entry for PC's to handle well for such a big and detailed mmo.
I would say even PS4 Pro's may be able to handle a light HD option. They are equivalent to mid range PC's anyways. They just have limited choices in customization of their game graphics settings compared to PC.
I don't get this point of view, and it seems to show up every time the conversation of increasing graphic quality pops up in a video games message board.
It's like saying that on a scale of 1-10, the game's current maximum graphics setting are a 5. If my computer can run at 5 no problem, then that's great. But if they were to increase the maximum to 10 I, personally, can't play the game on maximum settings so I don't want them to do that, despite the fact that I can still play the game just fine at 5(or maybe even 6 or 7!), and other people with better computers that can also run at 5 no problem, but could run at 8-10 with little to no drop off in performance, shouldn't have that option.
(run on sentence! woo!)
Totally for HQ textures.
It only impact local PC so they can't use the usual memory/data excuse.
Just give the option to enable it and that's it.
Ekk, I wouldn't mind if they do it gratually, just provide textures a bit less compressed than the one we have, it will alreaby be a great step to make better close-up screenshots!
It might be a wrong impression that I have, but I can't imagine that they're creating the textures as we see them but just compress them at the end for optimization purpose.
I don't think it would be that much of an extra work to be able to provide better quality.
Nah. I'll hold you back until I die.
:cool::cool::cool:
Wont be happening any time soon, at least thats how it was worded in one of the last interviews Yoshi did. But his wording could have been a hint for 5.0 changes, not really sure how to take it.
It seems they are more worried about precious FPS and having TONS of PCs on screen at once for all the people that care about that......
I'm in for 4K textures, I've been asking them for a long time now!...
For those with potato PCs it's surely time to upgrade them, you can't possibly think you'll be playing games on the same PCs for decades to come!...
Sadly though, it would seem that the graphics quality on this game depends heavily on whatever console Sony poops, I don't think Yoshi-P will push the graphics if it won't benefit current PS4 Pro owners so he might actually wait for a PS5 and 5.0 to release them!...
Even if they don't do a full texture pack to cover the whole game, they need to attack specific problem areas. Hien's armour was so present and glaringly bad that it never should have gotten past QA. I legitimately thought I'd screwed up a setting in the graphics configuration when I saw it.
They asked him the wrong thing. They asked about a full engine upgrade (like what WoW did a while back) rather than enhanced textures (which should be supported by the existing engine).
I have been running this thing called "Reshade" which just has a bunch of extended graphical options.
Some options include DPX, clarity, HDR, MXAO, and others.
Makes the game look 10x better..
Now if there were extended options in the game config that would do the same thing without the post-render app (and likely to better effect) than that would be a step in the right direction..
We won't ever get HD textures, because they already mentioned this. It would mean having to redesign all the textures in the game which would just be far too much work.
(Why they didn't design them in HD to begin with and just lower the quality is beyond me but it's SE we are talking about here).
You should try Super Resolution Plus, now that makes everything look 10 times better, too bad it's just an illusion, a visual effect that will not reflect inside the game, said otherwise it won't show up in screenshots!...
I still want 4K textures, the game might struggle with UHD resolution now but next year GPUs will most likely laugh about 4K gaming!...
Yes textures are what bother me with characters and mobs, I hate seeing tiles hair and square pixels on armors, etc. It bothers the heck out of me, Im not talking an entire overhaul but maybe characters, mobs and armor should be updated.
We just need better textures and maybe a better anti-aliasing, or at least let us choose if we want to use a better one.
1.0 had a cool and useful tool called "supersampling", wich is the best anti-aliasing.
I think it's easy to implement since the HD textures already exist (every texture is designed in high resolutions, then compressed to whatever resolution).
No, it doesn't. Reshade is literally just a shader that works on post-render stuff.
Still makes the game look much better than the base game.
They have already said that HD textures aren't a thing that's going to happen (a few live letters ago, pre-SB).
Mostly because the work involved is absolutely huge.
i don't know, but reading around: ff14 is (still?) reworking the old Crystal Tools rather than the new Luminous Studio (which was only used for tech demos and FF15). Has devs confirmed they are in transition or planning to use ff15 engine?
I call BS, individuals have done HD texture packs for parts of games like Skyrim and Fallout before. There are HD texture packs of N64 games on emulation. They all do this for free.
Its obvious the team does not appreciate good graphics, perhaps they are still comparing to graphics to FFXI or they know based on WoW and FFXI that it is not relevant to the games long term success.
FFXIV been around so long now. I'm surprised they haven't released another Final Fantasy Online game that can make use of better graphics and options. Also I'm pretty sure they can add HD package look at all other old games there adding HD packages to.
The cost and time investment involved with producing anything on a company level has to be weighed up.
A hobbyist graphic designer doesn't have to think about this sort of thing.
The reason is less about the fact that they can't but more about the fact that they are not willing to invest the resources into this.
What's more strange to me is why they didn't produce the textures in high res to begin with, and scale them down. But I am by no means versed in game design.
Making a full rebuild of all the graphics of a game to please just... 0,1% ?... of its playerbase feels financially not so much a great idea, imo.
But maybe I'm wrong and everyone plays the game at 1440p max settings and 120fps and anything under are just exceptions.
I remember a new player complain to me in the FC recently that daytime in this game doesn't really look like "daytime". He's a pc player who's used to epic graphics-engine centered games. Just gonna drop that here.
Personally too, although this game has gorgeous Special Effects, most of it is wasted when it just becomes an over-saturated blur on the boss. A lot of the early dungeons also have the problems of cramped tunnels which are a chore to tank in and have all these effects only serve to burn your eyes. (No wonder we don't get more tanks). So improvements along the overall handling of visual effects is still a valid topic.
Meh, don't really care either way. Game is fine.
Yea. . . Direct X 9 plays on 32-bit, Direct X 11 plays on 64 bit. In case you weren't aware. The reason why XIV plays on 32/64 bit is to give PC players a wider rang of accessibility, but even they themselves have recommended people move to 64 bit aka Direct X 11 since the release of Stormblood.
