Materia Melding and 1.20a style repairs

The new 1.20a repair feature works great.

Can we see something in the future that treats materia melding in the same fashion? Maybe not for attachments of 2 or more materia, but at least for the initial 1st piece attachment? Have the requester supply and put up the materia, catalyst and a set flat fee for the service.

While it isn't generally that difficult to find a friend or linkshell mate that can perform a meld, Sometimes it can be difficult to track someone with the skill down. I think a system like this would make materia-melded items even more accessible to the community as a whole and make 1 less thing people need to spend their time shouting for help with if they can't find craftsmen on their own.

I believe it's in the works, but I am unable to find a dev quote confirming that.

As a person currently without a linkshell, I am one of the ones that will not be using materia until I can either do it myself, or I can request it like a repair. I do not trust people enough to hand off my gear and materia, especially if it comes to double or higher melding.

True story. If people can't do their own low-level melds, or find a friend or linkshell mate that wouldn't mind helping them out, I seriously doubt they'd spend time or energy shouting for a level 1 or 2 meld- essentially making the materia system as it is a almost exclusive endgame or high-level game mechanic. Hopefully the devs have an iron in the fire when it comes to this.

Yeah I remember this being in the works. It might open up untradeable gear getting materia compatibility.

I too am hoping this gets added soon! I only wanted to mainly level Alchemy and Cooking which obviously you can't meld with and I don't want to have to level a craft that I don't really care about at the moment and I don't want to give armor to people I don't really know...

I wish we can get rid of the middle man and just attach the materia.

I see quite a few people shouting for melds in Ul'Dah on Figaro. Usually one of my LS mates helps but trust is a factor and rightfully so.

Completely disagree. Being able to meld and experiment with forbidden melding is an exciting part of crafting, it should remain as one of the rewards for leveling up a Disciple of the Hand.

The option to streamline the melding process to make it simpler to request and do melds for others is awesome though =)

Couldnt we split the difference and allow an NPC to do the first meld and leave stage 2+ to the crafters? I get both sides but its like pulling teeth usually to get crafters to help, at least on my server

I think that crafters need to be the ones to enhance equipment. It should help soften the blow when an epic U/U drop is BIS. I honestly expected the crafters to make the basic armor, the better armor with mats that are rare drops and their place in epic drops from NM would be enhancing.

I want drops to be awesome and BIS but I really want crafters to have a important place. If I level carpenter to 50 and am an awesome crafter I want my work to mean something. But if I am a DoM and I participate in an epic battle with a NM and I get a super awesome earring I don't want a crafted piece to be at the same level. I want my super awesome earring to be buffed by a goldsmith.

I interpreted Rukkirii's post as making it easier / reducing hassle to meld someone else's gear (as a crafter) our getting your own beholder by another player (similar to putting up a repair request).

Not easier in the sense of higher success rates or NPCs who meld.

Disciples of War should never be able to meld materia. They aren't craftsmen.

A way of setting a materia request similar to repairs will be great.

This is basically how I feel about it. Although I have several crafts at the mid thirties that can meld a few measely pieces of cloth and leather gear, I just don't feel comfy handing over my high level stuff and top tier materias to people I don't know. Add that to the usual tip or fee for the service, and it's a lot to entrust to players you aren't familiar with when there's nothing to stop them from running off with it all.

I also don't like bothering the high level crafters I do know. They're busy people and all. I'd much rather prefer a system similar to repairs to handle this. Or even as another poster suggested, an NPC capable of doing a single meld for a steep fee.

Until either of these things happen, my higher level stuff will remain unslotted unless I purchased it that way and my top tier materias will continue to collect dust until I'm capable of melding them myself. Which is a likely a very long way off, with as disillusioned that I've become with the crafting system on whole.

There's nothing wrong with the way materia melding is done now. The only issue I have is you can easily see other peoples gear and what materia is attached. You have to go through several windows to see what is attached to your own gear.

Yep I agree. I've never understood how it is we can out stat NM/Primal gear.. ok, let me rephrase that Primal gear. NM gear should be a nice middle road sort of "cool" piece to say you did it and have solid stats not crafted or purchased but Materia should still beat it but primal gear....nope I don't like it at all. Mind you not complaining just think it's a bit strange and I can live with how it is but if it was an option down the road or something cool.

Personally I would like to see the +1 +2 melds be below a primal fight piece of gear. +3 and +4 well +3 maybe equal to or juuussstttt a bit less and +4, due to the difficulty to added it could be a better stat than a Primal but even that is something that could be designed as a "what if" type scenario.

Could you ask if there is a way to incorporate the old bazaar style repairs into the new system aswell, ie flagging all red and yellow items in your inventory for example.

I'd like to add my vote for keeping materia melding restricted 100% to DoH. This is just one of the services players who enjoy DoH classes can offer to those players who primarily enjoy DoW/M classes only. I would like to see a more secure way to meld materia which would not involve trading all 3 components to a crafter you might not know. Perhaps this is how they plan to streamline it?

Let's say they do implement such a system. I think there would need to also be a way to designate an up-front fee, and a success fee. Since anything past a single meld involves risk, I as a crafter cannot in good conscience charge a significant fee for basically destroying someone's cherished equipment; however, should the meld be a success, that may warrant a better reward (fee).

As a side note to primarily DoW/M players; you are free to grind DoH classes to 50 just like everyone else. Please don't disrespect our playstyle or want of payment for our assistance. Do it yourself is free, otherwise, you hire someone to do it for you :)

I believe there is no disrespect in style, just unnecessary middle man work. If everyone lvl up DoH then yes they'll most definitely do it themselves. Just saying, DoW/DoM/DoH/DoL can all turn equipments into materia magically, but somehow only one can attach them. it is odd (imo)

How is that odd? This is no different than only a miner can mine ore, only a fisher can catch fish, only a weaver can knit shirts, etc. The materia system is very well balanced and allows the often more forgotten side of the game, DoL/DoH a chance to be useful to the general population.

The only reason everyone can convert equipment into materia is the soulbinding. Again, it makes sense, your character bonds with the equipment and draws out its materia. No one else can do this for you. Melding is different. It pretty much IS crafting.
