Let's talk new master recipe books...

So with the release of patch 4.05, we're getting new master recipe books, yay. Be prepared to meld or re-meld (probably with materia VIs), reverse engineer new rotations/macros, and spend a lot time, money, and effort on grinding out the scrips required for the new books, not so yay.

So what do you think? I'm guessing the new books will be purchased with yellow scrips and cost an exuberant amount, probably like 1,000 each? Hopefully less if we're lucky.

What's your plan to grind them out, CUL recipes, ALC recipes? Which book(s) do you plan on getting first?

I think I'll likely grind out some CUL yellow scrips collectables in spiritbond gear with some one-button collectables macros :)

I'm still leveling up my crafters. Only have BSM at 70 with the others being 60-63 ;-;

We should be able to craft the (presumably to be introduced) "true" AF gear with a melded white set. I have no plans on touching my melds until I get those new pieces. I'll be replacing and melding my accessories first. I haven't penta'd my white set, but I didn't want to until we got the required stats for the new stuff.

My order of books will be my specialists (GSM ALC and WVR) and then everything else. I will probably get CUL last as I can probably craft just fine without the highest tier of food possible. Seafood Stew was best for all of HW, after all. (And I'm still using it, but it's mostly because i made A LOT and I'm lazy.)

They tend to follow similar patterns with gear so yeah, this is exactly what happened in HW, except that gear was available on release with HW and not a few weeks later.

I'm debating on this. Previous expansion had the first set of books costing one script set backwards and they were reasonably priced. If they follow that set, then our books should be Red Scrip based.

Still gold scrips are getting VERY little use on my server. But if the books cost yellow scrips... the economy is going to explode in a VERY bad way. I'm not looking forward to tomorrow of we have to gold scrip every book. I can afford it... but its going to be painful any which way.

I'm pretty sure the new master books will each cost 900 red scrips.

Are we talking a new set for each individual crafting job or a new omniset? Sorry, I don't remember what happened and in what order when Heavensward was released!

craftable versions of the 8 class-specific yellow scrip sets. They will likely be able to accept pentamelds.

Heavensward started with omni ilvl 150 white gear, that could not take any V materia, and ilvl 170 individual gear. Also, ilvl 180 non-meldable gear could be purchased with scrips.

Stormblood has ilvl 290 white gear, that can actually take VI materia (and produce them via spiritbinding). And ilvl 300 non-meldable gear can be purchased with scrips.

So this is not really the same as back in Heavensward. Also, if u/Hezkezl from reddit is right, the master books will be bought with 900 red scrips each, which is cheap.

It's likely that the new recipes will still be 1-star, so I doubt that the rotations will change much, nor will it require much remelding.

If they make it 2-star, most people would likely just avoid the crafted DoW/M gear altogether.

My plan right now is check whichever turn in requires the easiest/fewest mats and grind em out. I'm just hoping we don't need the scrip grind gear to make stuff.

2 star will have a requirement of 1320 craft, 1220 control.
Crafted gear is ilvl 320.

Also, ^ This. I won't be touching any overpriced (to make and meld) gear sets, single or shared. I didn't bother with AF or Ironworks in HW and felt better for it.

So far, the dataminers haven't found anything related to AF gear. Most are leaning towards us not getting a craftable version of Yellow Scrip gear. If that turns out true... it's definitely an odd decision.

Should be interesting. 1320/1220 craft and control. I am at 1325/1325 melded white gear. I have a lazy macro for level 70 i290 and it is nq to hq every time. I was messing around with 1* cul and that took a bit more thought. While the stats are close, control under inner quiet builds super slow. There are a few ways to handle this as finishing the progress on the craft didn't get much harder. My guess, make you job main and off hands tools first to make quality easier. The white gear if melded should last a while. Other than that, unless it starts raining materia grades IV to VI, there will be a smoking hole in the MB where crafting materia was.

Got 6 of the books now, and so far it seems kinda boring... No crafting stuff, just 320 dow/dom gear. Bit disappointed.

900 red scrips per book. Yup, just meld some more on the white gear. Dunno if this combat gear will sell though, it's easy enough to get to 320 without paying for it. Good for retainers, I guess.

They can't make this much harder. I think they expect players to use that crappy NQ 300 gear for scripts with no CP and no melds, which is worse than ilvl 290 white HQ.
Mainhand is an excuse tho.

But why? They have made crafting so boring. Its no skill, just endless grind with no real efford. Wheres the challenge from Mor Dhona for Books and Lucis gear?

Crafting made for the plebs which explains why beast quests from Ixal and Mog are so braindead easy so lvl70 crafter who bought their gear because they cannot do that don't really know how to craft.
Hell Ive seen people lvl 66 who doesnt knew what steady hand is there for

Depends on how creative people get with penta-melds, first i320 gear able to allow this! And with i330 gear requiring heeps of creation tomes (with a weekly cap) i320 crafted gear might be a stop gap for some along the grind ladder.

They actually didn't add any new crafting/gathering gear? Extremely disappointing.

How are you all recommending to meld with the new minimums? What's the most economical/logical? Post an Ariyala link? I'd appreciate it!

2 star food sucks as well. Lovely.

This is exactly as expected. III and IV were blue scrips so going one scrip level backward fits the pattern.

It wasn't 100% though, since yellow scrips don't have a weekly cap. Glad I waited to do Zhloe turn ins this week.

There never has been difficult crafts. Especially now that the game is large enough to have a strong crafting community. Resources, discussions and macros/rotations are common knowledge, shared knowledge, if you know where to look (ie these forums). ARR was about rng and using Reclaim.

Hard to define "difficult". But in a relative sense, crafting was more difficult in 3.0 than now.
You can see something is wrong when you can craft 2star item using normal mats with a macro.

SE was really sloppy, for example, I have materia for getting my miner/botanist to 1200 percpetion, but why would I do that? I don't need HQ ore/plants, I can hq everything with just normal mats.

Does that makes any sense?

Yeah more or less that is exactly the problem. I'm holding off that kinda over melding for if/when they finally add stuff where its helpful.

Maybe we have to wait for the 4.1 to have the new set craft/gathering and new recipe 2 stars.

you would rather have them implement pointless job specific crafting gear before the inevitable green and then blue omni sets? script = glamour and crafted=omni is something I hope they do both now and into the future...

This is QoL crafting. If you know how to come up with a nice rotation, you will accomplish more per cp than the average person. In 3 months it will be the same as it is now in shiny new gear.

If anything goes off course, you will just throw in more materia into your gear.

They will need to rework crafting and/or remove some of the strong abilities (Makers Mark, etc) to give us a 'challenge'. The majority of the people I talk to seemingly want more rng variance... but that just means tedium.

Crafting wasn't difficult on 3.0. It was based on how many hasty touches can you spam and hope that 70% chance was successful enough. RNG is not difficult, it's tedious and exists as a bad method to waste your time and inflate needed stats. You SHOULD be getting better as you gain experiance. Work faster, less effort, less mistakes, less wasting of materials. That's how progress is suppost to work.

Crafting was more difficult when compared to 4.0.

In 4.0 you can take highest recipe, make two macros and craft it HQ with zero to only a few hq mats.
You can craft the hardest recipes by literally not knowing what the crafting skills do actually.

Knowledge about what really is in those macros
is not required for crafting. It is ridiculous and of course it is a step down in difficulty when compared to 3.0 where, if nothing else, you were
at least required to understand what you were doing and you were required to react to procs. All that is gone in 4.0
