Dear SE: Please just put STR on tank accessories

With a patch coming up, there seem to be three possibilities for SE to fix i270 accessories being the best option for tanks right now.

1. Add STR to Fending accessories
2. Revert Attack Power calculation to VIT+STR
3. Lock tanks out of the i270 accessories as well

There is one simple reason SE should do the first option and not the others. That is that with options 2 or 3 tanks and only tanks must meld tier VI materia in order to get their primary stat on the right side.

That is a burden of a 250k-500k gil every gear set for my server. Tanking is simply not affordable when you need to spend that kind of gil to get your primary stat and what is the logic in penalizing people for playing the least popular role? I personally think we should want to get DPS queues down to reasonable times so it seems to me SE should be rewarding players who tank and heal, not hitting them with a half-million gil fine.

It also means tanks, and only tanks, don't get to choose their melds. They can't meld Tenacity if they want to be defensive or Direct Hit so they can get big numbers on Fell Cleave, they have to meld STR. In fact, with a third of your slots consumed with STR materia, Tenacity materia are going to be worthless again.

Option 3 is obviously the worst because STR is twice as valuable than with option 2, but option 1 eliminates the problem entirely. Tanks can meld just like any other job, or not meld if they're only going to use a certain piece for a short time. Please make the obvious choice.

I would like to see a 50/50 of Vit/Str on tank accessories but none of both is capped so tanks can meld what they think fits better, like Vit for progression and Str for after gearing up.
This would open some kind of customization for tanks and not just Str for overall.

Doing this would also mean reverting the change to resurrection sickness, which I'm... also kind of for, honestly. Have the affected stats instead be attack potency if it's this much of a trouble for tanks.

I am against this because it would mean we have a secondary stat less.

Acc have 3 slots, 1 main stat and 2 secondary.

If they add str to it, then they have to remove a secondary aka less crit/ss/dh/det

Just go back to the HW scale for tank dmg and rework the death penalty

There's no reason this has to be the case. Look at the Diadem accessories.

The simplest solution if they want tanks to do less damage is to just make our damage scale completely off VIT and remove STR from all of our gear entirely, but have our attack power scale at about 75% of our VIT or something. With healer damage now scaling off MND I fail to see why this can't be implemented.

Even adding STR to our accessories is dumb. Why waste lines of code on that when having our HP and damage scale from one stat is just better and makes more sense in literally every possible way?

This stupid song and dance between STR and VIT is becoming incredibly decrepit, the playerbase is sick of it, and in an expansion themed on streamlining and simplifying game mechanics it just adds (frankly ridiculous) clutter and fuss for literally no reason at all.

Um, because it's already coded for tank attack power to scale with STR?

No reason they can't make it work with strenght like every other MMO ever.

I am sure this will be addressed in the next few patches. I can't see players running with i270 accessories for the entire raid cycle when all accessories from raids are locked to the available jobs.

I hate tank using str 270 ones in primal fight. They either almost die and pop holmgang early or almost die bcuse of lack of health and, never have i cure'd that much on a tank compared to VIT 320 ones. Call me a bad healer because i am not. If tank with 270 wants to dps then i want to throw more extra stones i usually do at those primals instead of spamming cure with my co healer because that tank chose to use str 270 for parsewhatever ! And this is thru DF for lolz.

It have only happend once.

Just bad tanks. WAR has short enough cooldowns that they should always have big ones up for the busters and DRK/PLD can basically shield all of them for their co-tank. IF the two tanks are working together doing the primals in i270 STR is very easy. If they're just doing their own thing, it's scary, but still possible in STR. If they're just bad or make a mistake it's not possible.

However, you make a good point in that the current design means tanks can either take their primary stat and make life more difficult for their healer or they have to give up their primary stat for slightly more HP.

Well not just Diadem accessories but also every single Aetherial accessory in the game too. So it really is odd how some foolish people think that adding STR to Tank accessories would somehow mean less secondary stats. I guess they just assumed that because all non-Aetherial or Diadem accessories only have 4 stats that it must mean accessories in general can only have that many different stats period.

Who even cares if they removed a secondary stat? Strength is far better than any of them. I'd make that trade every time.

Losing 25% of my HP (36k in a group with str jewelry vs 48k with vit) makes a big difference. Sure for a polished team of people who played together for a while you can make that work. For average Joe in a random duty, that's 25% loss is to much.

What I see will happen is they will just lock out all HW jewelry with the upcoming patch to prevent using this. Might not agree with this completely, but that's the most logical path they will walk.

Honestly, the easiest, simplest change is literally a two step process.

1.) Give tanks back their Vitality+Strength calculations from Heavensward, maybe with slight damage reduction versus DPS and Healer DPS. If this sounds OP with Resurrection Sickness as it is, it is. But I said this was a two step process, right? That means

2.) Change the Resurrection Sickness from modifying STR, DEX, INT and MND, and replace it with the following: "Auto attack, damage, magical damage, and healing potency are reduced by x%", with x being 25% on the first rez, 50% on the second. It'd be essentially what it is now, without potentially gimping the HP given from Vitality.

I know why they did the change to STR. They didn't want to gimp tanks when they died through the stat reduction, nor did they want to overpower the tanks by excluding them. Unfortunately, the solution they made that could have fixed the issue, Tenacity, simply has too low a weight to make up for the lack of decrease in DPS, but it's still SOMETHING, at its 200 points per 1% damage, mitigation and healing increase. But just switching back to Vitality immediately without any kind of means to rebalance the system would only cause chaos.

Yoshida appears to have confirmed that there will be no change at this time, but said they are planning to have a fix by 4.05.

I want to reiterate what I said as OP, please make sure that tanks are not punished for playing their role by depriving them of their primary stat. Whatever it is you end up doing, we should be able to use our own role's accessories and meld secondary stats just like any other job, not penalized by being forced to meld primary stat to our one open slot or wear obsolete STR accessories.

This expansion was aimed at gutting the tanks, especially 2 of them it seems.

I've done all the ex primals repeatedly as the mt in i270 accessories in pugs. It doesnt take any sort of super coordination. If you need the extra health then you do not understand the fight mechanics and your cooldowns.

This. Tank is already a not desired role to play by most of the population, and gutting us because we could 'do dps' is stupid? Why make a role less attractive to the average player and even more obtuse. No, we shouldnt top meters of course but this is a terrible solution.

Some people just don't get it.

At the start of an EX dungeon this morning an irate healer got me vote dismissed because of my i270 STR accessories.

Yoshi-p denied making VIT based method of attack power calculation.
With this, it is necessary to consider only the tank with VIT and STR and the two main status, the threshold has become high.
