The Death Penalty is no excuse for scaling tank damage with STR again

The reason behind the change from SE's side was because Tanks would not have a penalty when they died, no damage penalty and still have their full hp because VIT does not get reduced by Death anymore, but we know that the game can balance Vit and Damage Dealt seperately for Tanks.

Let's take a look back at Heavensward where Tank damage was scaled with Vit.

You get a Damage Down Debuff during HW, you make X% less damage, yet your hp is the same and you don't lose tankiness.

So the game can split this stuff up.
Just change the stat decrease to a general DAMAGE DOWN debuff and give us back the VIT scaling, we won't lose tankiness but still get the damage penalty.

AND WE WON'T HAVE BULLS*IT 270 STR BiS META

Or they could just put str on our acc alongside the vit. That is essentially what vit was doing in HW. It was 1:1 giving the same damage as str.

This is what they should do. It will obviously be less than the vit, like the second of the two secondaries. Problem solved.

I never liked the .45:1 STR + .45:1 VIT = ATK power formula anyway. They just used the excuse of "STR and VIT can't be on accessories because of DPS" when they went to that last time.

Well, now they are role locked so put STR on our ACC.

I guess you're a dev? Where'd you hear this? Some YouTuber? Some forum post? Some redditor? You just contradicted yourself in this post, even you could figure out how easy it is to solve this problem, meaning this probably isn't the reason they did it...

That was the thing that got mentioned in an interview when they announced the change.

And there is no contradiction. They wanted harsher dmg penalties for dying but no loss of hp which is the reason why str etc. get reduced now but not vit when you die, so you lose dmg and not hp.

Since that calculates with stat reduction a vit scaled tank wouldn\\'t have a penalty because vit does not get decreased and therefore, has no dmg penalty. A strength scaled tank loses dmg bc str gets reduced, but doesn\\'t lose tankiness bc vit is untouched.

Yet the dmg down debuff for all of HW ignored the hp but still affected the dmg dealt and a general dmg down debuff instead of a stat reduction would\\'ve been the better solution for all of us

+ i am a big fan of new gear actually being raid-viable

I think the only downside with this is gear stat costs. unless FFXIV is different then every other MMO out there, each piece of gear only has a certain amount of points to distribute among its stats. So we'd likely lose another stat in it's place. Not a viable solution IMO since tanks are the only ones that suffer from this issue. we need an alternative option. VIT wont work due to the above mentioned issue, but perhaps Tenacity? it's a tank only stat, and it's already on our gear as a stat, so why not? They could use it instead, and pehaps include it in the death penalty calculation. or perhaps work it in as a independent modifier of threat, so we have an actual threat increasing stat. and isn't tied with either STR or VIT. Just a thought.

I agree with Temiju. Having STR on vit Accessories means we have to sacrifice crit, det, skill speed, etc.

Tenacity could be a solution though i find it questionable to primarily scale through a secondary stat

Also since i can't find the edit bitton on mobile - someone showed me a parse yesterday for Susano ex of a pld with full str. It's 2,7k dps while the average vit pala has about 1,5k dps

That's more than 1k dps difference, at least for ot's str acc will be bis

What is going to be interesting is when omega comes out and what the accessories are going to be like. If it remains unchanged but locked then we will continue to where the "str" accessories but at a vast drop in "ilvl", or crafted ones if you can afford it that is.

I don't know why they even kept STR/DEX/INT/MND.

Main stats as Vitality & Power with general secondaries of determination, speed, direct hit and specialized secondaries of tenacity, critical and piety would have worked for everything. Swapped direct and crit because the "DPS stat" being diet crit instead of super crit is weird...

Give tank gear more vitality in exchange for less power, tanks do less damage & have more HP, goal achieved?

If you're saying keep Tank damage scaling off STR but just giving Tank gear more VIT to "compensate" then that would please nobody. Because as many people on the forum have pointed out lately there comes a point where you don't need more HP. As long as you have enough HP to survive then any excess just becomes absolutely pointless. Which is precisely what has created this situation where Tanks are now wearing ilvl 270 STR accessories instead of the current high end VIT accessories.

No, I'm saying do away with STR altogether. All the main stats except VIT are identical in function.

I think SE have at least partially moved us back over to STR as the half and half scaling with VIT means when SE want to tweak gear to alter tank DPS it also alters tank HP. It would be easier to just have one main attack stat, lock gear based on whatever (role, job, who cares,) and if they want to mess with tank DPS they can just raise or lower the main attack stat on our gear as required.

Admittedly they could do the same thing while still using STR and locking accessories to roles, just a personal annoyance that we have a variety of main stats with no actual variety.
