Why all the Hate? People Its called change embrace

Good Morning,

I have just been looking through the job pages and all i can see is whining and bi*ching about how people need to look at the new gauges.
1) they are designed to make life easier and i for one think they do this wonderfully.

Or people complaining that they have lost skills (I hear you Dragoons crying over faint :p)
2) they are still there (mostly) and it will just take some adjustment and you need to look for the new icons.

look i know i make a thread about bitching that looks like I'm bitching so what i would like is for people to put the things they are loving about the expansion.

I am loving the new gauges the're pretty.

If I had to complain it wouldn't be about the gauge but about BLM's gameplay which is the same but easier with a new spell every 30seconds. And yet I'm pretty sure it still won't stop ice mages, it will even be worst, Ice IV spam with unlimited enochian.

It's very inconsistent across jobs. WHM (and to an extent SCH) have both had their breakfasts well and truly eaten by AST, with WHM's new mechanics being very clunky and whole swathes of their functionality being further eroded to the point where they're a hollow shell of the FF series' core healing role. Those jobs feel 'incomplete' in fundamental ways, while others feel a lot smoother than before. I'm liking some of the changes very much - good riddance to the old Cleric Stance and button bloat, MCH is actually fun now at last - but others definitely need to go back to the drawing board (WHM) or have some figures/cooldowns heavily adjusted (SCH).

There are also lots of bugs, which are fraying tempers even when they're unintended.

But MNKs new UI elements doesnt make it easier to track our buffs, in fact it just makes it harder than before.

The thing is we didnt get new buffs to track, just a stranger way to track what we had in the first place. Had SE changed the way Chakras/GL3 worked im sure people would be more enthusiastic about a large clunky thing that fits nowhere in a clean and simple UI.

SE's powerpoint presentation made it clear they value criticism over compliments. Complaint creates change and improvement. Nothing is gained from burying heads in the sand and not everyone wants to 'embrace' change that they neither agree with or like, thanks.

If things were so great, they'd obviously be in game enjoying it (since its just come out) instead of playing sjw on forums. Another pointless thread.

Because not everyone fancies the changes? Why would I "embrace" something I dislike? While I like a fair number of changes, I remain very skeptical over how simplified many of the jobs feel. Dark Knight immediately comes to mind as I enjoyed it for the variety and slight complexity in its mechanics. I'm not exactly a fan of the job boiling down to "spam Dark Arts on every ability you have!"

We fear change.

If I had a complaint so far it'd be that the BLM gauge is trying to convey too much information. Its not bad once you get used to it, but before, I had all the relevant information available to me in a nice, neat little row with the status icons. Now I'm looking at one corner to see how many stacks of Umbral/Astral Ice/Fire is up, the other to see if Enochian is even up, my eye drifts to the Umbral Hearts, and at the center it tells me if I have Umbral Ice or Fire and how many seconds... Its a lot to observe, keeping my eyes off the field of battle, because I just can't keep it on the field without missing things going on behind it.

I'm still waiting for them to change Darkside... Every other NPC has had a better looking Aura then my dumb Aura. There's nothing Dark about it at all..

You have the option to hide the Aura now. Give me a better looking Aura!

Dark Knight changes seem very lackluster and look more like nerfs to me.

I just hope the dps checks and rotations aren't so mind boggling. I'm having a difficult time dealing with the quick moving aoe markers that started being all the rage.

Should probably get WHM up higher. Our MP management is off the charts thanks to lilies and their traits. Use your skills right and you can have a huge amount of DPS uptime. If anything, I truly fear the amount of overheal WHMs will have due to Assize coming off cooldown so fast. Thin Air is an amazing blessing, too.

Having played WHM since beta of 2.0, well into 3.0 and finally here in 4.0, the job finally got what it desperately needed the most: MP management tools on par with SCH and AST.

DRk lost its ID as DRK. No shadowskin but rampart PLD only used to have. Some of this stuff makes DRK look less DRK.

AST gauge is BS since I cant click off single cards anymore and also...No one but myself can see my cards.

If im teamed up with another AST,i cant even check what they got to make sure I dont overwrite their cards, and neither can they.

Even my bard friend mentioned that without me bringing it up "kinda sucks I dont see your cards so I could prepare accordingly too"


If they wanna keep the gauge, FINE, but give me the option to have my cards show up in the buff bar like it used to be.

Oh I agree some things are good. It's the general adaptability and low level stuff I hate (no Stoneskin at lower levels and no alternatives to AST/SCH abilities mean I cannot justify bringing WHM to FC lowman/min ilevel challenges at all, which feels dumb - they actually made this problem worse in SB). And the lily/confession stuff needs a lot of tuning. The fact that a small number of our mechanics work brilliantly doesn't make me any less sad that the rest are sort of missing/useless; in comparison AST feels pretty wonderful aside from a few obvious bugs.

I'm not playing WHM on purpose outside of PVP until the mechanics are retuned but I'm sure it's perfectly fine in its specific niches. It's just that I like jobs to feel brilliant in different ways, not uselessly-good-at-overhealing/AoE damage - neither of which matter in a lot of content - versus generally-good-at-everything. They've messed up on the satisfaction factor, rather than the raw performance factor.

I haven't seen anything yet that really interests me while lvling DRK. bloodspiller and Quietus seem forgettable in the grand scheme of lowering damage and keeping hate.

It took me awhile to get used to the SMN changes, but overall I'm starting to like them. Obviously there's stuff I dislike about the changes but overall, it's been good. I do hate that I can't shadowflare as often as I want (when tanks...for some unknown reason move enemies out of it lol). I really like the new guage though. There have been times I used Aetherflow when I already had it up, but getting used to the new guage quickly fixed that problem. All I hear people say is that the nerfed it so much it's unplayable and I just think...you must not be very good then because I'm still mowing down hordes.

I think people are way too focused on specifically what was removed or added, and not considering the greater implications of the changes to the combat system. As a White Mage, I feel like the class has been buffed significantly by the removal of Cleric Stance (which makes Assize far better) and the massive increase in MP regeneration (between Thin Air and Assize's reduced recast). But all you hear about is all our abilities becoming role abilities, how useless Lilies are, and not gaining utility. Having neverending MP and significant direct damage counts for nothing, I guess.

Also I've heard almost every job referred to as "nerfed" because of lost abilities. Every job lost abilities! This was a massive change to combat, and you can't judge it in the context of HW vs. SB, because it wasn't just your job that changed.

Seriously, stop focusing on what you lost and focus on how your job plays now. And if anything really is legitimately unbalanced, they'll change it. Sheesh. (To clarify, by all means complain about issues with your job, but determine what the issues are through gameplay, not a comparison of new and old.)

I think the biggest issue with the new gauges in that cases they don't really meet the stated intent:

Many (if not all) of the job gauges don't incorporate all the buffs that a job has (e.g. Warrior's Storm's Eye buff is still present on the buff bar, not the job gauge).

As a result, you're still having to pay attention to the buff bar like you were Heavensward, but now you have to pay attention to the job gauges in addition to that, when before that information was all in the same location.

I'm a DRG and I never once cried over Feint. The new Feint is orders of magnitude more useful.

I have no hate for the new system yet. I didn't like the reduced time on BoTD for DRG at first, but now that I can do Wheeling and Fang back to back, I have no qualms with the new gauge. It's actually easier to read than the old icon system, so I favor that. I have also played WAR, and it's nice that wrath doesn't wear off. I can't say how many times I had a full stack before a boss fight only to lose it right before starting.

I do feel that some of the abilities being removed kind of sucks. TBH, why take them away, just let the player choose what to use. I do miss bloodbath for WAR :'(

Can we consider that not everyone plays the same content all the time? Obviously they've tested all of the healers at level 70 and determined that they're ok for whatever endgame content is going to be hitting us in Omega (and dungeons). Cool. If you like roulettes and have a group for the new raid, that's great. That's why Yoshida has said to wait for the level 70 raid stuff before crying; the whole design is tunnelvisioned around a particular gameplay path they visualise that everyone will take.

But there's a massive heap of content in FFXIV which isn't that, and my WHM is currently pretty terrible in the stuff I want to do (except PVP, where it's legitimately decent outside of some snags they'll fix and I'm not going to deny that for a second). It's not wholly that I suck - although I do - because I can play other jobs in old content and perform fine. I haven't seen any of the people upset over WHM complain about its MP efficiency, or its Holy spam, or its PVP viability, and most people (myself included) like the new Cleric Stance* and spell scaling design which benefits all healers to varying extents. It also doesn't have the weird empty feeling that SCHs are currently experiencing with regards to AoE DPS, which is nice.

It's still ok for us to be dissatisfied with what some of us feel is an oversimplification of our role. And I don't think that keeping quiet is a very productive way of ensuring the developers are aware not everyone is happy, so keeping quiet isn't all that appealing. Congratulations to those whose needs are 100% met by the new WHM, though.

* Edit: By which I mean I like the removal of the old Cleric Stance. I don't have the new one on my bar.

I'm not suggesting we keep quiet but a lot of what i have read elsewhere is just people throwing their toys out of the pram because it "different".

I understand people have been playing or years (myself included and my first lvl50 in the Darklight days was WHM) and change is a painful thing to some people but personally it feels like a breath of fresh air.

some of the jobs were running away with their power (E.G. AST, WAR) and this has leveled the playing field.

There 2 problems in what they did.
1.there more to look at in a "more easy" system?
2.by lvl 70 you have as much if not mor skills.
So we did not get one more job for a system that failed to do what yoshi wanted.
You need to ask why people dont like it?

I think what they were setting out to do was great and also very necessary. Another post here today mentioned Cleric Stance being the signature SCH skill pre-SB - uh, it's a WHM (well, CNJ) ability; the blurring started a long time ago. The old system had a lot of issues, like me needing four hands and two controllers to use MCH effectively, and certain jobs being able to solo things and perform in parties at levels far and beyond other jobs, and too much going on in the buff/debuff bars, and some jobs not stacking decently while others did, and tons of duplicate, useless or badly-designed abilities. The problem is that they didn't fix a lot of the most glaring issues so the work feels half finished, and they left a bunch of gaps in some jobs while others are looking very slick. It's awkward that abilities show up inconsistently on other players due to the mish-mash of job gauge designs, and it harms communication and planning. Intuitively, it's weird to me that BRD and SCH have native Esuna whereas the series' flagship healer has to scrape the basic version out of the cross role system. The game currently feels very different depending on which soul crystal I'm currently wearing; more so than it did in 2.x-3.x.

A few of the jobs with useless tagged-on gauge mechanics are the most obvious example; there's a huge chasm of difference in the satisfaction levels I've had between relearning the new BLM and relearning the new DRK. I'm sure they'll fix stuff, eventually. After it no longer matters in the case of my FC activities :/

Complaints are going to happen... that is the nature of a major overhaul. You have to understand some jobs have been changed significantly ,and their players have been use to the way they handle for three plus years now. I get what SE was trying to do ,but they couldn't even balance the tanks in Heavensward with small changes why would a complete overhaul be a good idea. That said there are a ton of updates before the end of Stormblood , and I for one believe the player base can at least give feedback and be patient waiting for fixes. At the same time SE needs to understand if you are paying to play something , and it becomes less than enjoyable you may well decide it is not worthwhile.

Game is still barely out and people are still adjusting to things they expect to master in a day. People have no patience and even though they yell about wanting change they actually don't want it.

On par with SCH she says? More like better than. scholars MP management is crap now. Nerf embrace forces us to heal more. Aldo MP increase. Nerf to aetherflow. I ran belsars(sorry spelling) wall the the other day and, unlike in 2.0 where going out of mana never happened, I was running out 1/2 to 3/4 of the way into every boss fight. And don't even get me started on the DPS changes...

It's hard to get excited about assize being a little better or MP efficiency. Those are like regular patch tier changes. Things that are normally exciting about an expansion like new abilities were not exciting. Yoshi teased about white mage getting a barrier spell, and then they moved stoneskin from level 34 to level 66 and called it new.

The only gauge change that's tripping me up is the double AST's pugs can't see the cards on hold by their fellow ASTs as everythimg card related is a part of the new UI.

For the most part, it's growing pains. Everything has been consolidated, cut, tweaked, etc. But every job has something that many players preferred in the old version, and that's bound to happen.

There is also the fact we don't have much EX/Savage content to really use to build the new rotations and figure out the best ways min/max jobs as a larger community. That's stressful, lol.
