I am so happy I didn't level to 70 as a DPS!

So, I get my tank to 70 then I decided to level my Monk up doing dungeons only to wait in que for literally 82 minutes! After that, I said screw this. And I already know what players are going say......

1. "O but it will get better in a few months!" So with that logic...are we going to have a influx of new tanks showing up the next few months that really really want to tank or maybe they got sold on Samurai or Red Mage for them wanting to play. Yea that does not quite make sense to me.....

2. "More players are also going to get tired of ques and they will go tank" So by this logic, more and more players are going to be forced into doing something they more than likely do not want to do....some may.....so they instead of playing their fav jobs....they play something they do not want to do. Yea thats kinda a bad thing in my opinion....

3. "The number of players who played tank never really changed because of the new classes we added" So let me understand this......I look on my search tab and see literally 200 Samurai alone on my low pop server(can't imagine the real # on actual larger servers) and SE expected that ques times would not become horrendous to all other DPS? How does that make sense? If you made Samurai into a tank....everyone that wanted to play it would now be a tank and it may not have eliminated long que times at all....but we would not have 60 minute que times for DPS!

So moral of the story.....adding only 2 dps this expansion as I and others stated months ago upon finding out the details is still and will continue to be a really bad idea!

probably depends on your data center, on primal pre expansion dungeon que was around 10 minutes and primal que was less then 5 for dps

now primal que is 15+ and dungeons are 30+ for DPS

This is a two fold problem: one is that tanks, in most PUGs/PUBs, set the pace and have to lead the group. Most people would rather follow than lead as leading implies if **** goes wrong, it's your fault (even though we know that isn't true.)

Second is the lack of diversity in tank. I started as a PLD back in 2.0. In 3.0 I rolled a DRK only to find out its an off tank. Right now from what I understand, the players see tanks as follows:

PLD = MT
WAR & DRK = OT

.......so really, if you want to tank end game, you have one choice. If you want to be the little ***** that's going around grabbing adds or on stun duty (if that's still around, I'm out of date), you go the other 2.

Meanwhile on DPS....how many choices do we have? When you compound the first issue with the second, nobody wants to play tank.

My queu times have been around 30 minutes as a DPS.

People on my server have already been doing that since the whole content throttling debacle a few days ago!

They just added two new DPS jobs that many players are extremely hyped to play. Even people who mainly heal or tank are excited to try them out.

DPS queues will always be the worst of the three roles, but it will very likely normalize after a time, as the Samurai and Red Mage hype settles.

I doubt that!

When Heavensward came out so many people jumped on DRK and AST that DF became overloaded with tanks and healers and for a few days dps had near instant queues. Dps was even Adventurer in Need for a little while. After some time it evened out and returned to normal.

There's no reason to think it would be any different this time around.

Yes there is, because tanks have always been the #1 lacking role in every MMO thats followed the Holy Trinity since...199x.

Forgive me, as my memory is a bit poor, but I believe I've heard a song like this before.

Believe it was called ROG/NIN.

Half my FC mates are PLDs and WARs. XDDD Make more tank friends and you never have to worry about dps queues again! \o/

Edit: also, I would like to note that we don't lack for tanks in this game. There are plenty, they just avoid queuing with randoms because people are jerks, so they're pretty much done with the drama.

One thing to take from this is that it could get better it's just going to take a while. No you might not see a huge increase in tanks but you also have other things that can influence these numbers.

Some people might get their jobs to 70 and that is the DPS they choose to have, staying there and working on crafting / gathering.

Some might also take time to try out these new tanks, so I know I am guilty of doing tank jobs just for quick roulettes / face roll on dungeons to get my weekly cap. Now I'm going to try to take it a bit more seriously this time around.

Some also moved to these jobs because of the hype + the disappointment from their previous jobs. I wouldn't be surprised if a healer or tank moved to a new role with all these drastic changes. With the possibility to change these jobs through future patches there could easily be a patch that gives some love to the tanks and healers that are showing issues.

This would cause both players who miss their job to jump back, also those who want to be what the rest of the players say is the best will want to play as the best job and go back and level it.

All of these scenarios are very minor I think in terms of numbers, but added up could show some sort of different. I don't think you'll see anything major anytime soon but sometime down the road you will, just like everything else.

Team concluded was that for the first few months there was a spike in tanks, but then it dropped back down later on. There was no significant increase in tanks by adding dark knight. People merely tried the class out, but it was obvious that the role was the issue and not the class. What had happen was that people moved back to their DPS roll. Dark knight was picked up, but only by players who originally tanked in ARR. same issue was with healer.

While this is true, I think they're confusing "temporary problem" with "no problem."

There's a large number of people playing the game following an expansion, more than any other time, and their experience for those several months while people try things out are negatively impacted by the imbalance in roles.

I'm happy I made a lvl 70 DPS NiN<3, working on my WHM next

Nice bait. And if it isn't? I feel sorry for anyone that has to do end-game content with you, especially if they are an off-tank.

Make friends with a tank.

Party Finder is your friend. I've never spent longer than 10 minutes getting people for all the dungeons in SB, if you rely completely on DF for your dungeons, you're going to have a bad time.

We're on the same data center, so unless you're queuing at sub-optimal times, I don't know why your DPS queues are so long. The longest I had to wait was 45 minutes, and that was solo-queuing for 50/60 roulette (which also happened to be on Day 1 of Early Access during the short period of time instance servers were stable). Queuing directly into the SB dungeons, about 20-25 minutes. Leveling AST on the side, queues have been almost instant.

I expected the longer DPS queues, and it honestly doesn't bother me too much because I just use the downtime to level my gatherers and do a couple of crafting leves. Or to hunt down those damn Aether Currents.

LOL ! In Alexander as DRK, I've seen numerous time a low level PAL with minimum gear, rushing to the boss to be the "MT" and dying in less than a minute. :D

This must be the first time you've played at the release of new jobs.

this does tend to happen in expansions like this. there is simply going to be an "imbalance" issue when bringing out new classes. But just like in HW, things will settle. While I get that the imbalance isn't something people like (I personally hate having long queues for DPS), I also understand why it happened, and it will calm down once the newness of the new classes settles. Will some people stick with the new classes? sure. But In my time as an MMO player (often as tank), I find that tanking attracts a certain type of player, and that player will always like tanking. This isn't to say that some tanks will really enjoy the new DPS and stick with it. But I don't think that 2 new DPS spell doom for tank classes any more then a new tank and healer spelled doom for DPS back in HW days.

Things will settle, queues will stabilize back to relatively normal levels, and all will be well once the dust settles. Sucks that we have to tolerate an imbalance, but I also don't expect SE to always put out 3 new classes every expansion just so we can feel better about our queue times. That wouldn't even guarantee stable queue times, as people would no doubt gripe about the new classes and how one or the other sucks, and that's affecting queue times...

roll with these punches and move on. it will get better. Not optimum (players will always flock to DPS in numbers) but it will get better then it is.

Well... I originally figured I'd just bring my DRK character up first, but then I tried the DRK changes and just nope'd straight out.

I can do gathering in the queues, that's more fun <.<

It's been fine. I'm level 68 and there are so many damn sidequests that waiting for dungeons is nothing.

As others have said, this isnt really all that new of an issue. At NINs release everyone was freaking out to play it. Ques for dps went way up and the world was full of flip jumping. It wore off after a while and people went back to what they liked.

Beyond that I would imagine that a number of former tanks have swapped to SAM, like myself. Once those get leveled and geared they will very likely level the tanks they had played through 2.0/3.0; So give it time and ques will shorten up for dps again.

How is this different than any other MMO? DPS always have long queues. Tanks and healers always have near-instant pops. It's the price we pay for wanting to just kill stuff.

This is why I've stuck to healing. I get instant queues pretty much for myself and my boyfriend since he's leveling Bard.

if you want anyone to blame for tank participation right now just look at how paladin was presented compared to warrior/dark knight. the dps classes were more interesting.

Besdies adding two dps.. they gutted warrior and drk. I was actually interested in them till i saw what they did. When through the history of the game you have a shortage of tanks.. the solution is to make them LESS fun to play? This problem is only gonna get worse over time... these first few days the tanks are actively playing, gearing up, getting through quests and all much faster than you due to their instant queues... when they are done getting what they need whos going to to tank?

I'm pretty glad WHM is basically in my blood and would always be my main.

Queues have been instant for me since it started!

I went to queue as my rdm and seen more than 30 minutes..I said screw it and switched to my AST..

This is why I decided to level RDM first then AST. That MSQ xp is gold for DPS right now. Once it's done I can level AST thru the sidequests left over and quick dungeon ques!

What happened to those two? They killed WHM. Easily one of the worst nerfs they've done Job balancing wise. It's sad to see it, because now I know adding another healer into the game
will be an absolute nightmare. If they don't fix healers this expac, we may not have one next time either.

Same here, however that's only till people catch up to the new content. If you queue for old ARR content via lets say roulette's, it can take quite a while depending on the data center or the hour of the day.

I did the same in HW, level'd my tank first, then my healer, and by the time i chose a dps, everybody was already taking a break till the next patch lol. This time sadly I couldn't resist playing RDM and therefore, I gotta deal with the longer queue's. But that's my own fault nobody else's, I am glad you made it to 70 while we other people are still waiting in queue ;)

Yesterday I actually saw someone in PF say since they are tank they get every piece of loot unless they have it already. It is only a matter of time before more people do this....
