You know what - I Like what's Happening (Scattered Thoughts)

Here is Why:

We have a team that built upon, rebuilt, and improved a game that for all intents and purposes, was terrible.

But what did they do? they Didn't give up, they updated, they patched, they brought it from a steaming pile to a presentable pile, then hid it away for a year and a bit and came back to us and presented us a roast dinner.

What does that say to the many people sitting here, abusing Square, their staff and the team that has put Hundreds of hours into creating something you can enjoy and play? That are giving up their time and sanity to sit at their computers, run tests, fix and compile code, and use their brains to try and make another expansion go well.

Tell me people - do you think a restaurant with prestige and a name like for example Chef Ramsey would just open? No - they have Soft openings - they open to people to come and taste items, review and update before the official opening. But since a game isn't a restaurant, its not a soft opening! So it is early access! Think of it that way - you are here to sample the game before the official launch.

It is thanks to you, from the sane and reasonable to the whinny and ignorant, that they are improving as a team, a company and as individuals to offer more to you.

I honestly doubt there is anyone sitting on their backside at any Square office at the moment, and are working extremely hard to combat the issues you face.

So a few thoughts:

- Yes you payed money, and that money is paying for the commitment of the staff to provide you with a service.

- You're not a Special snowflake like your mum said, that requires every developer drop everything and pay attention to your needs.

- You pay money for this - good for you - but as it is quite literally not even 3 days and with the needs of over 1 million people on a tonne of servers accessing a product from all over the world - you may not be the main priority!

- There are real people that you are screaming insults, posting hurtful and mean comments to, people that have homes, families, bills, and lives to lead. These people, despite this sort of negativity that's prevalent, are working their backsides off to get the game working to a standard again.

- Could you just PLEASE grow a set of whatever you are missing and either Quit like you keep saying, unsubscribe as you promised and take your negativity to another game.

- No the game should not be shut down to be fixed - they are already working on fixes - a majority of people can play the game and you are unlucky - sorry but because you are not having fun anymore, does that mean that thousands that have been fortunate should suffer? If you answered yes - you need a reality check and a visit from the ghosts from the Scrooge stories...

- For once.. ONCE I would like to see the community come together and support the team that's working hard to make it work. The only time people visit here is because something somewhere irked you in some manner and you feel the need to express it. (Yes I am guilty of this right now - the irony is not lost on me i assure you!)

I welcome a discussion on these points.

Please. It's been four years since they "saved" the game. You can only give them credit for that for so long. You can stop bringing it up already. It doesn't exonerate them from all future faults.

That is a major downside, and until they fix this problem they can't get anything more than FATEs, possible job feedback, etc.

No it doesnt...

it was more an inflection that there is a team of people who will try their absolute hardest to make things work.

Like the waiter who gets you fresh cutlery, or more sauce, they are trying to make your experience better!

You make it seem like they're doing this out of the goodness of their heart. They're getting paid. If they really cared, they would do it for free. They only put in as much as the Boss will pay them for it. Clearly they're not getting paid enough, so in conclusion. Management is showing how much they care about the issues.

Money can fix any problem. Period.

If people play this game , it's because they chose to pay because of the service it provides, not because they were put into this game randomly. Good post, I agree completely.

Everyone is acting like this happens all the time and that it's an on going problem... Its only been a day a half at this point. Serioysly, sometimes I wonder if these people complaining even know what real issues look like.

Hmm... I do remember hearing a while back they were thinking about renting/installing servers for launch days to give the extra space for these sort of things, and then switch them off once a majority of people got through the story... I wonder where that plan ended up...

A bug report is good - and feedback is good - but "36 HOURS I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE" sob stuff really doesn't help anyone.

He didn't mention unsubbing but if you aren't getting a service you paid for then you can complain. Lets put it in simpler terms if you got a laptop home brand new that you just brought and it didn't work would you just accept it? Hell no you wouldn't because you paid for a product you expect to work so you'd go straight to the shop and complain and expect either your money back or a replacement.

Now we know we won't get a replacement or money back but we do have a right to being kept updated (more than just once a day) and a product that runs a lot smoother than this.

They poured hundreds of hours so I can play on hour of content and then get stuck unable to play it.

We aren't "abusing" the company over them working hard on something we can play. We're "abusing" them by wanting to actually PLAY that content.

When you order food from chef Ramsey, you don't wait over a day to get it to your table. I understand they put a lot into this but at the same time we are the consumer and we deserve at least decent treatment. For the amount we pay every month we expect quality service. They are leaving us in the dark as to what solution they are coming up with leaving the majority of players frustrated. Some people took off work or took time away from their personal lives to play the pre-order launch.

No. That's what beta tests and PTRs are for. Early Access is not a beta. They are not seeking our feedback so that they can patch changes come the "real" launch. Everyone who purchased the game can play it - that is essentially release.

Say an artist that paints for a living... they do what they enjoy, they put the effort in to their work, and form a bond with it.

Say management (Big of Square Enix Middle and higher Management) are the gallery owners

Now imagine if that artists puts that art up in a gallery for all to see - but the gallery is charging an entrance fee, and can only let 2 people through a doorway at a time. The art is there - and he will make adjustments to it to make it more pleasurable for the viewing audience - but now because of the gallery (Management) the artists work is now criticized by the public because of the restrictions management enforced on them.

Money is a tool to fix problems - but if its not controllable by the people who need it - what can you do eh?

More, people are attacking the wrong department - Blaming the game, blaming the programmers, story team, arts - all that lot - when the letdown to you the consumer is not from Yoshi - its from the executive managment (Ill emphasise this is the managment that thought 1.0 was releaseable) not giving the team what it needs to support you all!

PTRs and Betas are good... but there is not beta i have seen that allowed for hundereds of thousands of simultaneous connections. usually you are sent a code - they have the numbers - they are there to see if the games work - or make adjustments as neccessary. if 2-3k people in beta could access the same thing in Beta - go through the bottleneck - it may have been overlooked as a problem.

I honestly urge people to take a few deep breaths and realise that the game works! It does! but becasue of a failure by someone somewhere not to allow the procurement of extra resources - everyone now has to suffer for a bit - but it will all pass - and there is no World First achievements!

I would agree, if this were WoW, but I don't recall a beta test nor PTR for Stormblood. Honestly, I don't. Was there? :confused:

Anyhow, the difference between a beta test and now is volume. There are just too many people trying to do the same thing and it has totally borked some parts of the game.

There have been so many complaints that any more of them is adding nothing to the situation. At this point, the only rational thing to do is chill and do something else. Give SE time to correct this logjam.

They are trying to make our experience better? Really? The same team that did nothing for 4 years while some servers packed to the wall while they enjoyed extra cash, the same team that ignored the fact that they cant deliver extra houses yet still designed it a certain way, the same team that could barely provide any extra inventory yet designed the game like there was unlimited space, the same team that provided less content year after year, the same team that ignored pvp players for years YEARS to remove GC to only be told first it is LORE FFFFLORE then to be told they would cheat, the same team that allows paying customers to bot just because they pay.

You want me to go on. We can both make lists that are pretty damming or a giant fluff job. I actually hate these posts more then the problem you are the problem you are a bunch of weird enablers.

This community as a whole is starting to make me sick.

I don't post on the forums much, but I've been lurking on here more than normal mostly looking for updates on if people have been able to progress through the MSQ. I've had some thoughts but perhaps this is the best place to finally share them. I also apologize in advance for multiple posts. This 1000 character limit kind of sucks.

I absolutely love this game. I've been subbed since ARR and regret not getting to experience 1.0. I appreciate all the work the team has done and even wish they had more official merchandise I could buy to throw more money at them to support them. Honestly, I'd say a good majority of players can say the same at least to the point of being appreciative of the work that went into the game's development and it's upkeep; but I think that's one of the things that is making this situation so disappointing. We know what the team is capable of; we know their passionate and typically have very open communication with their player base.

However, the way instance blockage has been handled is very unlike them. Normally we'd have a better solution outside of "we're sorry but just deal with it". I understand that it's probably an overwhelming issue for them to work with, and I understand that there's not much new news they can share, and I understand that bugs, glitches, and errors happen. Call it entitlement or first-world problems or whatever you want...but this is starting to hit a point beyond understanding.

Are there some people overreacting? Yes. No doubt but that's just what you get when dealing with consumers. There are extremists out there that'll say anything and threaten to take action (cancel subs, cancel preorders, tell friends to not buy the game, etc...) because they think it'll motivate Square to fix the problem faster - which it won't.

You also have people on the opposite side of the spectrum basically saying that anyone who is upset over this matter is a whiny, entitled person who should just accept that a product they invested in turned out to not be the final product they were promised or expecting. While it's true that there wasn't any extra cost to be apart of early access, early access was specifically advertised as a jump start into the expansion. Not as a beta or a server test. I'm willing to bet that if they had originally announced that early access would give you access to the new jobs, the MSQ would stop at a certain point, or a level cap would be put into place...People wouldn't be as upset. People expect server issues during a MMO launch but nota deliberate development decision to prevent them from playing. Not to mention I'm sure many players are very concerned about the ability to do anything once the game officially launches. What's going to happen then the number of people doubles?

That's kind of the point. We have no opportunity to really give them feedback until it's release for an expac/patch, and then you end up with customers pissed because this is content they paid for.

Their "go do something else in game" nonsense is just that, too. Husband and I thought we'd work on leveling some of our other jobs, but we keep getting disconnected when trying to enter solo instances for job quests and the like.

No, but they need to drop everything and pay attention to my needs when my needs are identical to the needs of 90% of the people currently logged into the game.
Needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, and right now the many need more attention than the few.

That's fine and good.
It's less that people are upset with the game being broken, and more that the game is broken and there is almost zero communication from the developers.
It amounts to "Sorry about that, just try again later!". But later never comes. Like the servers are frozen in freakin' time. I thought we took care of Alexander but I guess not.

All of this could be avoided if the devs just gave us an update every few hours. And before you say it, no, this doesn't take away from the actual time needed to fix it because there are people on staff who's entire job is to communicate with the community.

A new team rebuilt the game. It wasn't the old team. It was a new one.

Secondly, they make a ton of money. They don't deserve praise for selling us something that is broken, and then working their weekend to fix it. I work in software and we launched a product that had similar launch issues and let me tell you, our engineers got major flak for not doing their damn homework and doing what was necessary to make sure we had a smooth launch. Because we had people paying us their own hard earned dollars, and our thing wasn't working.

It isn't acceptable and they deserve all the hate they are getting. They shouldn't charge anyone (even people who didn't buy the expansion) for these days. They aren't doing this for free and they aren't doing this out of charity. They are doing this because this makes them money.

LMAO my favorite part is that they all act like they are PAYING MILLIONS OF DOLLARS. Was like 30 bucks and 15 a month for your sub. Chill out you want .50 $ back?

Well considering it's not launch yet and this is early access...

Again, as an software designer, we don't do this stuff for charity. We had people buy our product and return it same day because our servers weren't running right. And the engineers broke their backs getting it to work correctly. And we did it because customers that hate you don't pay you money. That's 100% what is driving them right now and it is not them just being nice--if that company prioritized that, you'd see much better customer support, communication, responsiveness, and things actually getting done to make people feel good. All things which SE is very often performing very poorly in.
