Are we going to get a word from SE for sitting in a 1 hour and 3 minute queue?

Now the game gave a dx11 error from opening a gm ticket and faced with a 3269 queue. What kind of service is this?

Can we have upgraded servers? would that help?

Also I am not talking about trying to do a bugged quest, I mean loging on the server took 1 hour and 3 minutes sitting in a queue

You play on what is probably by the the most populated server in the entire game.

moving half the people on balmung to a different server might help in your case.

That's... not what he meant. I got a game crash after sitting in queue to log in, back into a 3803 person queue. It's prime time now, so everyone's trying to get on. When I started at like 7am the queue was 300 people... lol.

Everything could be prevented if they bothered to start a US East server along with the West one. They made a huge marketing for this game, of course the number of users would increase and what they expected that a single datacenter in friggin California would hold the demand from the entire American Continent?

No matter where they locate the servers, Balmung will always be to full, overcroweded and among the first ones suffering from lag and connection issues. Because its to freaking full and it doesnt matter wether its to full on the east cost, the west cost or deep within the south american dschungel.
I cant take complaints like this serious when they're coming from Balmung - you made your bed, now sleep in it.

Your warning probably should've been when the server was locked for creation and transfers in. If you wanted to avoid the crowds, it would be wise to transfer off.

If you're determined to stay on, for whatever your reasons, long queues are the price you have to pay.

should have moved when you had the chance.

You don't just upgrade server capacity for a short term event that settles down after a few days.

Having 2 data centers would split the community in US East and US West and the result would be Balmung population being controlled, at least some part of it. If you are expecting to increase the demand you have to build structure for it, business 101 stuff.

Be glad we can even get on. If this was WoW we'd be stuck in infinite queues.

Wouldn't do much for Balmung. Plenty of people stay there despite being in Europe.

Kind of drastic to change servers for a couple of a day of inconvenience

zalera also suffers from this.
This comes from Square not wanting to do some hardware upgrades, like they did with Arr, Heavensward. etc etc.
One would expect they should have been prepared by now, after all it has been years since this game started.

They moved an entire datacenter to Europe, the NA servers to the opposite end of the continent, and there are STILL a lot of EU players on NA servers. This is the sorta thing that happens when you shove EU and NA servers into the same darn area for a couple of years. I live on the east coast and wouldn't move from this server if they put Primal back in Montreal because I've been here for awhile. The queues suck, but it's the megaserver and it was to be expected.

And what exactly gives you that idea?

The three nonsense things people spew at the beginning of all MMO releases/major updates:
"Gee (company), why don't you update your hardware"
"This game is poorly optimized, blah blah"
"Did they not QA this at all"

SE can not throw infinite money at hardware that is only going to be used for like two weeks. Get over it. It takes days to buy, build, test, and utilize additional servers. "open beta tests" is how they figure out how many servers they actually need.

If people are complaining about queues or crashes while connecting to any of the top 3 busy servers in a data center, that is on you, not the company. Talk to your community about moving off it.

I hate queues as much as the next person, but I would never leave the server I'm on, so I'll just put up with the queue, and the inability to get into the duty finder during a peak period. The Duty finder would crash after 20 seconds initially, then when It finally didn't do that, it took 50 minutes just to queue for Titan Hard. It wasn't a lack of people, no it was that SE kept taking the instance server down, so you'd be sitting in the DF queue and then the DF queue would crash and you'd be back to duty finder. But if you grabbed it right away it was instant. So this tells me that it simply can not spawn more instances for some reason, though I suspect it simply isn't able to spawn them fast enough given how many players accross the data center queue for the same instance at once.

From a IT point of view, you can't keep throwing hardware at a problem, eventually you either cap it at what the server can deal with, or you split the servers it talks to in half, thus making cross-realm play only available to half the servers.

No its not normal to sit in a queue for more the 5 seconds its only because its an expansion and servers are messed up right now.

People who play on empty servers should really stop spouting stuff they have no clue about.

Hey OP you on Balmung, which is the most populated server and you a surprised about how long the queue is?

Erm, Blizzard (y'know, that other company that has a successful sub based MMO?) has been moving pretty much all their servers to the West Coast for a while. The location has nothing to do with the fact that people tend to gravitate toward the most populated servers because, surprise surprise, they're populated, and in an MMO, that can mean positive things like a more active market and easier access to free companies.

When it's Duty Finder repeated collapsing, that isn't a specific server issue. Furthermore, it's a bit much faulting players for choosing a popular server, especially if they had existing friends on it. I transferred over to Balmung two years ago because the friends who played invited me and it was the only RP server at the time. So... what bed did I make exactly? Balmung should have been closed ages ago. You don't fault the customers when you'll happily take their $18 and keep the server open until it's practically breaking.

And moved to Primal, an entirely different datacenter with nowhere near the population of Aether. You aren't running into problems because your DF isn't pulling as many people.

Blizzard has servers for all major regions for WoW, if that's what you're trying to imply. There's data centers in New York State, Texas, and California at least.

Who were happily giving their $18 to go onto a server knowing that it was beyond capacity. The players aren't free from blame.

If they were beyond capacity, it's stupid to continuously allow people onto them. A company the size of Square Enix should be well aware of its limits. You cannot shift blame onto the players when it's still allowed. Square Enix did nothing to incentivize people go elsewhere until today. That has been the problem.

That is an incompetent business strategy. You don't risk stressing your servers on the hopes and prayers random people, plenty of whom may be new and entirely ignorant to anything server side, won't keep piling onto one that is still technically opened. Keep in mind, the vast majority of players don't bother with the forums and whatnot. It's why we see so many repeat questions during live letters. The more casual player simply doesn't follow each one, thus has no one of knowing what questions were asked. Even putting all that aside, it remain idiotic on their part regardless of what fault you wish to push upon the playerbase.

But it is a Japanese strategy of never saying no even when you mean no. Unfortunately, it doesn't account for the western idea of "it costs more so it must be better".

Better isn't necessarily the case. I'll cite myself. I transferred over because of friends, having no idea about anything except my friends were on Balmung and it was the RP server. Naturally, I am going to go where I have established friendships. Locking character creation on higher population servers only tells the average person they're trying to prop up dying servers. But with no incentives, few people were interested. That isn't on the players.

All of what you said is absolutely personal, which does make it on you. Your motivations for going there have nothing to do with the basic facts that they said the server was full, they discouraged you and even put a money barrier in your way. You went there of your own accord. If your friends were having a picnic in the middle of the burning forest and the ranger said, "You shouldn't go in there". Is it the Ranger's fault you did anyway? He can't stop you. it's a free country. He's sad that they found your body a week later, but he did warn you.

It is a problem because SE did not give people a reason to transfer. They needed incentives like uncap gil, full refund of housing and other things. Players do not know how much the server can and can't handle. we had no way of knowing it was "overburden" I is completely SE's fault for NOT DOING anything about it.

I mean besides the instances which are a problem for every server, Balmung has been perfectly stable so far and was at HW as well so the whole server is over burdened has yet to really be seen.

Some days ago you guys were making a fuss cause they blocked transfer to Balmung, now its their fault cause they didn't block transfer to Balmung.

... that has to be one of the worst analogy I've ever heard. You are equating a forest fire to transferring into a large server which still allowed people. A money barrier doesn't equate to the server is going to explode nor does it insinuating anything more than them wanting to fill other servers too. Put another way, it's an incentivize I wasn't interested in. Just like I have no interest in leaving now. A full server does not continuously allow people to pay their way in. When Balmung was full, they locked it.

I also like how you spin wanting to play with friends as a bad thing. On the one hand, play with people I know and where a particular hobby of mine popular or start by myself. Tough choice.

What could they say ?
Your on the most populated server, on pré-launch day and everyone is rushing to it, just....go to bed ? change server ? take a beer and chill out ?

I'm from Odin. I faced a 90 minute queue yesterday in the evening and a 60 minute queue in the morning shortly after the servers had come up for Early Access. It ain't just Balmung lol.

kind of drastic to say you upgraded servers and there is zero improvement and takes a step back with lag/ping issues.

It is not just inconvenience, it is unplayable. I do not pay SE to give me something unplayable.

Can there be more incentives to transferring off congestive servers?
NO CAP for gil for moving off
better reimbursement for housing
THese queues are too long, SE had years during all HW to make a better system for relieving congested servers. We the players do not know how much a server can take why is filling it such a low cap anyway?


Today 843-444 queue in 35 minutes, these queues are too long!!!!
