[Request] Glam for "Mages" that turns weapon hidden to use hands for spells.

Just a thought I would really like.. Not every mage in the world of fantasy or even Final Fantasy, needed a staff or wand to cast spells. So why do we?

Idea is for a glam item that can hide the weapon but instead allow the use of your hands to cast. I know this would make it seem like a MNK.. but still this would be a nice touch.

Even in FFXI the WHMs didnt use the staff to cast. We channeled it and then released.

I support the idea for all casters. Where do I sign?

They would have to give BLM and RDM entirely new animation sets for their spells. That is a lot of work. WHM could probably be adapted since its uses on hand to cast already but it might look a bit weird for some spells without a new animation set.

Either way it's quite a lot of extra work for only a handful of the jobs. I don't think its likely.

Casting with hands is not a part of Final Fantasy image. The weapon has nearly always been a focus for casting dating back to the very beginning.

I can think of only a handful of exceptions - FF6, FF8, FF11, FF13, However in these games you still equipped caster weapons to amplify your casting power (staves, rods, ect)... except in FF13, which honestly is an outlier to being with.

Don't think you'll make much progress on this request, friend. Additionally, they'd have to invent entirely different animations for all races which is a pretty time intensive project. I'd rather them work on something more meaningful.

This. MNK/PLD can get away with their invisible weapons because it does not alter their animations. What is being asked for is way too much. Never going to happen.

I am not opposed to this...

I actually want to be able to glamor 1h weapons over 2h weapons on blm and whm... but this would work too.

I just know it would be neat for them to try to look at it. I mean I get animations are trickier to make for some things however a game thats focused on "Customizing" this is no different to keep it expanding. Some of us dont need a sword or staff to channel their powers. ;)

hidden weapons will only hide the weapon, not change the cast animation (see monk)

Lore wise it wouldn't work either, as Disciples of Magic (with the possible exception of ACN and it's Jobs), use their weapon to focus the aether that powers their spells as a conduit. More so, the weapon actually is part of the casting; thaumaturgury spells are powered through the gemstone that all THM and BLM weapons are encrusted with, and Conjury requires a staff or wand "made of unworked wood" to help channel the natural aether from the environment as well as then focus that conjuration in the form of a spell. Arcanima uses arcane geometry written within the caster's grimoire to evoke spells like summoning Carbuncle (this is why they actually hold their grimoire in front of them and literally fire the spell out of the book).

So lore wise, this prohibits "casting from the hand", hence why this just is not possible I'm afraid (to say nothing of having to change the casting animations as others have said).

Even if they did go through with it, they'd probably just do the simple task of making the weapon invis, so no actual new animations, which probably wouldn't look ideal.

Pretty much this. Emperor's new staff/rod/tome, and viola, casting without a weapon. Could maybe be done with a star globe, but that would just seem weird, and rapier probably wouldn't be done just because it has attacks with require holding a rapier.

I get the lore, but at the same time, plenty of WHM weapons have been implemented that are clearly not made of wood (and this drives me nuts because, as a SMN, I always wanted a staff). It feels like they're really flexible with the lore.

As far as arcanima, I think the geometry is used as a template for spells. But for carbuncle, they said somewhere it had to do with the geometries within precious stones (the crystalline structure). I don't know if the stone itself is needed for the spell (it was in FFXI, and the Summoner job advanced questline first tasked you with finding a Carbuncle's Ruby), or if written data would suffice.

But I guess that would depend on the "lore" of being able to commit the geometry to memory, or if the geometry inscribed in aether-charged ink is needed.

FF1 primarily used their hands to cast spells. Weapon only came out when you used it to attack directly. Try again.

XIV implementing Emperor's New Caster weapon should be entirely feasible.

Glamor is just layering the appearance over another item...
Thus, the real item would still be there even with an invisible glamor...

I admit, I would certainly enjoy an option to cast or change up an animation completely for the sake of removing the weapon for classes that made sense but I feel it may never happen or it end up in the void behind a barrier of cash.

I just don't like the idea of it.I was originally against paladin losing its shield and now I am starting to feel this is becoming a slippery slope where everyone is now requesting weapons to be removed. Where will it end and where do we cross the line?

I never agree to the idea of games that restrict gear combinations.
If a Warrior wants to use swords, maces, axes, or w/e, they should be allowed.
If a mage wants to wear plate, they should be allowed.

If someone wants to be a naked fighter, again, I think it should be allowed.

The only reason there can really be a counter arguement, is when the MMO stems from prior games, where there are classes within their lore, that the current MMO is trying to tie in.
So to fit a "RDM" feel, there is only so many thing it can equip, to "feel" like RDM.

But if the MMO didnt have prior games to try and recreate, then there's just no reason to limit the player, other than stat penalties. (Which is imo the only correct way to encourage the proper gear builds.)

I would love this idea.... though many of the animations would look odd.

'Cept in some Final Fantasy games, monks, blackbelts, masters or whatever they might have been called in whatever title, got a trait that increased their damage dealt using no weapon at all. FFXIV is built around switching your job based on what weapon you've equipped. If anything, it is extending yet another homage to past games.

I want to say a quest in the thaumaturge class series touches on using their staves as a focal point to channel spells. I like the idea of casting spells without a staff, but at the same time, having those weapons there are iconic in the Final Fantasy franchise (sans monk).

Meh just use FF Mobius Magic use animation since the WoL is constantly casting spells with his left hand and using his right hand for his sword.

I'd be totally okay with this!

Even invis weapon would be fine. We are at the point in the game where Unique customization are big. Only exception is Yoshis wish that a mage cant hold a PLD sword etc.

Why was this not an option when they did that to the mnk weapon glam? lol
