Suggestion: Job Specific Gear

I'm not sure if this is the place to post suggestions, but I couldn't figure where else to do so. If it's the wrong area could one of the mods put it where it belongs please? Thank you.

My suggestion for the developers is to implement a system similar to the Beastmen Quest system, except that it would be for job specific quests. You do a set number of daily quests for the quest givers, you earn rank and Gil, and you rank up. Eventually you can buy job specific gear (good only for glamour), mounts, minions, et cetera.

Herp derp, thread title should read as Job Specific Quests.

I kind of which our class/job guild halls actually served some sort of meaningful function such as being a source for daily quests.

Considering the amount of grinding that occurs in your typical Final Fantasy game? No, not really.

It can be if done just for the purpose of giving balanced access to each in some particular, structured manner, but this kind of thing can also be done more loosely, spread throughout the plotline, with different alignments and so forth. Marauders might bring pirate quests, complete with boarding, isle-hopping, infiltrations, or whatever else, but who's to say that another job couldn't get involved in their daily shenanigans? Aim the fights somewhat and any reputation gains or gear primarily at the class or job around which the quests are themed, but there's no need to hold back just to maintain that system. Strike up a fun relationship with Carvallain or w/e his name is before SB, do some stylish dragon hunting, act as a blackguard/bodyguard, and win some brawls. Use the quests and activities to further the world, rather than detracting from it, and they should be plenty worthwhile.

Heck, you could tie in ladders and score-boards of sorts to each of the class halls, regardless of whether one has to use the intended class on in the challenge designed around it. Tie in some teasing by which NPCs could seem to acknowledge that you're not the only player character in the game and so forth, and you could really liven those areas up.

Not that expanding on them would hurt either, nor would seeing their key NPCs abroad... or those NPCs actually being interesting.

yeah, we're getting close to about that number of tribes with SB, so why not? It's basically specialized levequests.

Yea but we have accrued that much over years. If they did this, they'd probably want to release all at the same time so it'd be fair. Even a barebones release would require a lot of lore writing and then implementation.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for this idea. And I'm assuming Derio means that's asking a lot of the Devs, rather than the players (in terms of grind). I could be wrong.

Honestly I'm just happy we have class quests which have been gotten rid of in other games to reduce content only experienced by a few(at a time). It might be more effective in this game where rolling multiple classes is the norm, but the question remains - what are we sacrificing for this content? Would it it be better spent on content that everyone can enjoy rather than split into 15 parts where most see only a fraction of that available content? I don't think you can blame most for not having all jobs leveled?

I hate this argument most of the time because I usually think emphasizing Job identity and lore is really important. But this game is made to have a lot of individual Jobs(especially since there's no sub-classing) and only more added on as we go forward. A system like this shouldn't be a one expansion thing, but if it's not then it will become very bloated.

So I'm not against the idea but it'd have to have that future consideration in thought. Not to mention, the sacrifice of development effort and writing on more universal content. If they could find that balance whole not creating an empty system, that would be wonderful. Doubtful though, since this game doesn't have anything without a lot of lore thrown in so the writing alone would be a huge undertaking.

It would be a great way to teach people what specific actions do in their given job, or rotations.

I think job specific dailies could be a hoot.

One thing that could be nice about something like this, is that the older job teachers are in currently underutilized map areas. Placing more upper level content in lower level maps keeps the whole world experience from going away and being replaced by everyone clustering in whatever the current expansion's hub is.

I'll need the glamour system to support functionality for glamouring multiple job specific pieces to a single role specific piece before I advocate more job specific gear.

This is what I was thinking as well, that very same thing happened with FFxi. The last time I played I was fishing in the Dunes it was abandoned. I was actually the only person in the entire region, and the Dunes (once upon a time) used to be a heavily camped leveling spot.

I don't know what you mean with this, could you explain please?

I think Lamb is refering to glamour being tied to the job stone and not the gear specifically, allowing multiple glamours on a single piece based on the job.

some armor is role specific. mages use alot of the same pieces, tanks as well, as do bards and machinists. so if you have a job specific glam and apply it to a set of armor that is used by 2 or more jobs it defeats the purpose. so, he's saying they need to fix the glam system first.

You have role specific gear (such as tank gear shared among DRK/PLD/WAR), if I try to glamour the esoteric PLD body to the tank shire body it will show up on PLD, but on WAR it will default to the shire gear but still have the PLD glamour. What I want is to be able to glamour both the WAR esoterics body and the PLD esoterics body to the same piece of shire gear.

Basically I want to be able change the glamour on a piece of role gear based on the job that is wearing it

I like this idea much more than the current, heres a box with gear in it at the end, they are suggesting implementing. Maybe even use it toincorporate some of the gear design contest entrants over time.

My best job I have is Ninja so that doesn't happen to me often, but I could see that as being a problem for a lot of jobs. I can also see it becoming a larger problem once Red Mage and Samurai is part of the game.

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. Then again, if those dungeons/raids didn't drop something to make people keep coming back, no one would go through those dungeons/raids.

I wouldn't mind taking a break from beast tribes for a while in favor of something like this. They DID promise us a while back that we'd get to see more of the NPCs from the class quests someday, and this would be a nice way to accomplish continuing their stories.

Honestly I don't think it is practical unless we are basically saying the exact same quests each day for a Job and only one or two cut scenes total. Otherwise the work required to develop 15 different versions that are the equivalent of Beast tribes just isn't feasible. It took the entire 3.x cycle to get 3 beast tribes done. Your talking about 15 different sets of quests in one patch. That if we leave out Crafters and Gatherers completely. If we add them your talking 26 different sets.

There is also the issue that for a lot of players they will only ever see a few of the quest sets. I don't see many people lvling a Job to 70 just so they can do a daily quest set.

One way that they could do it is to implement it, three jobs at a time instead of all at once. It'll be easier to do it now rather than later and they have thirty jobs to do that for.

Not what I was aiming for. ARR jobs would only need to be 50+, HW jobs 60+, and SB jobs 70+, with all relevant job quests finished obviously. I'm not sure why this would be too hard for people to do, considering the crap that they willingly put themselves through for relics.

We already have Job Specific Gear once every 2 years. and that's pretty enough. We also already have too much daily things do to between roulettes, tribal quests, supplying quests, Hunting board, plus weekly quests.

It sounds like people need to learn to pace themselves. There is no reason why you can't do daily quests on one day, roulette on another, hunts on another, and supplies on another. Sure that might take you longer but what's your rush?
