I HOPE SO!!
I hope that this means we'll see the six elemental primals...
I think the six elementals would be a perfect lore point to go towards (so everytime they add a primal Summoner doesn't have to be worried about). Use the MSQ crystals we see as the end point, and just upgrade stuff from there. Not sure all six get the treatment like bahamut, but just egi getting nicer look.. would be perfect. As Bahamut was pretty insane.. and if they could do that or something similar ish with the six elementals.. hah.. I cri.
Pretty cool regardless, I was like oh Bahamut is going to do a super move and le.. and le.. le..lea.. leave? Holy crap he's going to stay for the timer O_O
Yes please!!! Ifrit garuda titan and many more please!!
It would be cool if they had at least a glamour change where you can use different versions of these stances. Like instead of bahamut you get Garuda or w/e X primal. Even if....it was...cash shop.. due to it being a lot of work, but that is a last option!
Well lets hope it does more damage that Garuda...
or it will just be sitting the bench with the rest of the pets.
That said... where did you get this information?
This is the best thing ever. Everything I ever wanted. I am absurdly happy right now. Huge smile on my face. Dancing with joy.
Bahamut will be replacing the current Bahamut Stance. He will only appear once the stance is active. Once the action is over he will be replaced back to Garuda.

So its going to do the actual Deathflare?
At least I hope so...
Right now I wipe out packs of 6-10 mobs in less than 30 seconds using what we have...
Using Garuda Aerial Blast (Enkindle), Bane DoTs, 2 Painflares and Deathflare...
So... if this pet replaces Deathflare... it better be good.
Deathflare was doing about 6600-10000 per mob (High Crit was 13k /Bard) in a one shot Teraflare style attack... on a pack of 6-12.
So... there you have it... it better be really good... and not just for show.
EDIT: If this is what they did they essentially locked the Job at 50th level while all the others moved to level 70.
I REALLY REALLY hope they are considering doing what they did with Bahamut with Ifrit Titan and Garuda. And maybe for future Ramuh Shiva
It doesn't replace anything.
You enter Dreadwyrm Trance once (which still lasts 15 seconds going by the bar - still is ended with by casting Deathflare ). On your Dragon-Bar, the golden Dragon Icon turns Blue.
You enter DWT for the second time (which again lasts 15 seconds). Now the Dragon-Icon starts to glow.
Summon Bahamut becomes available, and lasts for 20 seconds.
Aetherflow + Attunement might also have been changed. There is no duration shown on the Attument stacks on the UI, and the whole bar is "locked" when in DWT.
That's good to know,
As long as the Deathflare (aka Teraflare) Portion remains and uses the Summoner's Stats then it shouldn't cause too many problems so long as its not based off of Pet Stats.
As it stands Aerial Blast which is our other big signature AoE attack from Garuda, when you Rouse + Spur is supposed to be a 450 potency AoE, but when the pet does it it gets significantly reduced in damage due to the attack using the Pet Stats rather than the Summoner Stats.
Hence while Aerial Blast is actually a really good AoE it doesn't do much more damage than a 300 potency Fester in a per target basis. I estimate that with Rouse and Spur Aerial Blast only does about a 350 potency attack given the comparison to Fester damage.
But the recast on Enkindle (Aerial Blast) is 3 minutes as compared to the 1 minute (due to Aetherflow stacks and its CD) of Dreadwyrm for Teraflare. So there's really no justification for a 3 minute recast timer on Enkindle no matter how you slice it.
EDIT: If they did make the Teraflare (Deathflare) based on Pet stats though, they end up gimping the SMN DPS output. That would be a major mistake.
The other place this can come back on you is the Animation lock time... If they lock you into an animation while the pet is doing Single Target damage in an AoE situation, you just hosed up everything and no one will ever use it.
Man, I feel really bad for the animation department considering these requests.
I suppose I should explain all that...
As a SMN at 60th level... your DPS rotation in an AoE situation is going to look something like this.... (mind you Summoners vary)
Opener and Underlayer
Quick Cast + Shadowflare + Bio + Bio II + Miasma + BANE = About 2000-2500 damage per tick AoE
That's your under layer of the Damage going on that no one can see.
2 Painflares = 2500-3000 AoE damage Each + DoTs (2000-2500 ticking)
1 Rouse/Spur Enkindle (Garuda Aerial Blast) = 5000 damage AoE + DoT (2000-2500 ticking)
1 Deathflare = 6600-10500 AoE + DoT (2000-2500 ticking)
That the current AoE output of the SMN in a Multi-Target situation... Any kind of Animation lock will wreck it and prevent the re-application of DoTs and possible running in and using Miasma II followed by Blizzard 2 spam to finish them off... which does about 650-1000 damage per target when you're spamming it.
That's the Summoner in an AoE situation...
In a Single Target situation... the 60th level SMN in i260-270 is going to put out this....
Ruin 3 = 2500-3000 + Pet 1000-1200 + DoTs 2000-2500 (ticking)
Fester = 5000 + Pet 1000-1200 + Dots 2000-2500 (ticking)
That is a high geared SMN and his DPS output capability at level 60 in i260-270 gear.
I could tell you about the BLM stuff too and its just as nasty, though heavier in Single Target, but lesser in AoE.
So... if the flashy pet animation creates a lock when its used, it will screw up those rotations, and if it can't replace them its going to be a problem.
I'm just too HYPE about it . Bahamut looks GLORIOUS!!!!!!!!
JUST GIVE US THE OTHER EGIS AS BAHAMUT TOO!!
I was gonna switch to bard for 4.0 but that's just gone out of the window
Now... the most important part... and the reason I brought all that up...
In Raids and EX Instances...
....the boss mobs have this nasty tendency to go invulnerable right as you hit you DWT... or in the middle of it.
Because of this... most Summoners forgo the Ruin 3 spam entirely.. and pop Deathflare the instant they suspect they Boss Mob may be hitting that point. (Lose 5 Deathflares in a row in a Raid and you learn really quick.... a lost Deathflare is killer to your overall DPS).
So... hopefully you can cancel the whole thing the minute you use Deathflare. Otherwise you just killed the SMN DPS.
You will almost always cancel DWT when AoEing, as its pointless to spam single target Ruin 3s when you've got 6-12 mobs facing you, and you want to drop the whole pack as fast as possible. Ruin 3 isn't going to cut it, you need something that is going to hit multiple targets. So the Pet will likely never see the light of day in those shoes.
In Single Target Boss Mobs... now the SMN will begin asking themselves the question...
Will 10 more seconds of pet be worth more than my 6000 damage (Ruin 3 + Pet + DoTs) per... or is the Bahamut Pet actually doing 6000 damage per... and worth forgoing the other normal damage.
If not... then the pet will get canceled and no one will ever really see the Bahamut pet come out much at all, as they'll just cancel it early with Deathflare and move on to the normal SMN rotation anyway.
These are all questions we hope the Devs are keeping in mind... otherwise its just a pointless effort and the Bahamut pet will never be seen in the actual game.
Remember we are a DPS class and queues and competes with other magical DPS jobs... DPS is king... over and above all... and looking kewl and imagination isn't going to get you through that hard instance... only what your actual job can do will
.
Seeing Bahamut summoned like that made me sooooo happy!
Just from the little we've were shown I wonder if it's going to work a little bit like the Scholar skill that consumes their fairy to buff themselves but instead it would consume our Egi to fuel us summoning a shade of Bahamut.
And since we have a skill to summon a medium sized Bahamut (larger than our Egis but smaller than the actual Bahamut), I wonder if there's plans in the future to do that with the six elemental Primals. I'd love to be able to have a Leviathan Egi out and then supercharge him to do a few big attacks.
As a SMN since 2.0..this pleases me :3 It would be awesome if we get the other egi's how Bahamut is summoned. I really like the direction they are taking Summoner!
Well... we're summoning Bahamuth which was the last boss of ARR.
I don't believe we'll summon the six elemental primal for 2 reasons
1- developpement time would be very high.
2- I'm not sure how much sens lore wise it would make since we didn't spent that much time fighting the element primal and Bahamut >>> elemental summons
3- I thought they wanted to use the "lesser primal" as alternate form for our pet. Which would be more consistent.
However, I do believe we could actually see an alternate form, Alexander.
This would require less developpement time since they'd need to make only 1 and from a lore point of view, Alexander is as much of a deal as Bahamuth was.
He was posing a threat to Eorzea as a whole. The other primal were small fry compared to Bahamuth and Alexander.
And as someone pointed, this could be sold on the moggle station.
Depending on the price I believe it would be pretty popular.
It would require much more developpement time than the 3 carbuncle we currently have. I expect we'd get totally new animation from it. Different laser etc.
Let's not forget that from their pov, they gain nothing from developping alternate summon form. It's a money sync.
Paying would also ensure a better quality. If they charge you for an alternate form, it's gotta a be a god damn good alternate form otherwise they won't sell it.
If I were to main summoner, I wouldn't mind spending 5-10 buck to summon Alexander. I mean, if people are fine paying 4-5 for an outfit, that shouldn't be too much of a deal.
Well I'm glad the devs are trying to fix the mistakes they made with 3.0, not just with Summoner but with all the other jobs. Pets still lack any true play style difference and Garuda-Egi is still broken.
LB3 is Teraflare don't mix that up... Deathflare is Deathflare at least until now : o
yeah im really happy that Bahamut will get a bit more attention for his own. Lore-wise he's a big bang prime primal and should be more highlighted than the current trance. If this concept works, it might be a way to see more stances/egi animations in the future. im looking forward this concept... looks pretty cool at this point :3
I screamed inside. 10/10 did not expect evolving garuda into bahamut. I don't really want anything else anymore.
From what it looks like is we get to do our own deathflare but once he's summoned we tell him when to do it. There was still roughly 5 seconds left and the symbol in front of us showed us giving the command. So I guess after we go into the trance so many times we can summon him. I would personally like it if he did it automatically at the end of the time limit or we could command it so if we're stuck or lag / forget..take your pick, it still goes off.
I'm glad they gave the ability to summon him, but of course give people an inch and they want a yard. Already we're filling up with "Gimme Ifrit!" rather than people wondering if the pet abilities are being fixed or the enkindle issues being addressed.
Not sure what you're expecting but it should be good. Unfortunately the "just for show" part is a concern and could very well just be that since that's what a vast vocal majority on here wanted rather than actual adjustments. I would assume that once we go from egi to winged-dragon mode the actual pets dmg increases.
I'm more curious about spell being adjusted either via potency / levels or their actual usefulness. Also, no new pet actions from what I've seen.
Then again, not everything was shown not every detail was given. We were given the meat, but the potato's and other delicious sides are still on the way.
I wonder about Direct Hit and our spell speed boost. If things will change so it goes off for that, or if it might not if things like Direct Hit are so frequent. Which is good either way, if it's frequent enough it means our pets will have that mid-crit a lot more.
In terms of just for show, this makes me happy. I'll have my carbuncle out and have him transform into the mighty dragon!
i have no idea why you even think this is a pet summons,it is an attack spell, that has form of a pet.it is crap.the last pet was level 30,this is now 40 lvls and no new pet for a pet based job.that is a JOKE. don't dare call this thing a pet.will it follow you?take orders?looking for an excuse as to why we are not screwed once again as we were in hw.
Please, no.
I'd rather they made us wait an expansion and give us something useful with it than just a alternative to a Bahamut skin (and what's with the the mog shop obsession with everyone).
If Bahamut is single target, then Alexander could be a wide range AoE (drawing from older incantaions of the summon), or if we draw on the 'time' aspect, it could give a raid/party wide haste buff. Viable or not, that's just a couple of ideas that come to mind. There is so much that could be done than with Alexander than just making it an alternate visual for bahamut.
maybe you have to channel your and your egis aether-energy to "summon" Bahamut for the time being? I like that they gave trance at least a "reskin" - Bahamut looks great :3
You have to enter DWT twice to summon Bahamut for 20 seconds.
It looks like you can no longer use aetherflow while under DTW and attunement stacks no longer have a timer.
Watch the Summoner's animation when Garuda disappears. See those summoning spheres spin around?Quote:

I would like to think we still can, but we'll have to wait and see. Aethertrail stacks not having a timer is also still a bit skeptical from me, seeing all that was demoed was the abilities and gauges. We still will have icons and buffs, so I won't really hold my breath until the timer does not show up once the expansion hits.
Well first, they would never sell something useful on the mog station.
What you suggest is a different skill in itself. So if they were to ever do something like this, it would be as you pointed a new skill in itself and would fit a new expansion.
What I pointed was, since many people would like to be able to summon different primal, without going as far as introducing new skills, skin would be a solution. However, there's an order of magnitude of difference between introducing 3 carbuncle egi and an alternate Bahamuth. If we keep Alexander as an example, they wouldnt (or shouldnt at least) let you summon alexander without changing his spell cast, which means he wouldn't cast deathflare but his own ultimate (the huge charged laser from the its eye I guess)., then, it would also be weird to cast bahamuth transe and then summon alexander. So, introducing as a skin alexander would require much more work than simply changing bahamuth, to make the whole thing consistent, new animation would need to be introduced. Which is why I said the mog station would be a solution. I do not see SE spending that much ressource into a free skin.
An egi is different as they have much less details and have no spell interaction with the summoner.
look at the pretty sphere that makes it a 'pet' wooooo pretty sphere....so if fireball had pretty sphere it be a pet?a pet is a summoned beast that can act on its own or be ordered,it does not appear than go away.it is an attack spell that has the form of a beast.if you want to call it a pet, than you need to change classes, sorry ive played plenty of classes that had summoned pets,NONE would even remotely call this a pet.
Honestly after viewing the video....
It does not appear to be a new pet at all...
Its just a visual effect for a new twist on the Ruin 3 spam lead up to Deathflare.
Could be wrong but that's my impression after watching it.
calling a spell a pet does NOT make it a pet.ohhhh so lets just change the definition of pet. so why is not miasma not a pet?they could make demon appear and cast it,would that be a pet than?so they put up a beast image that casts a spell than it is a 'pet'.by that logic every spell user has 'pets' and every spell is a pet.all you need is picture, heal could have an angel cast the heals.
First, WoW's Gargoyle pet says hi. Second this goes to you and Silverquick, we have no idea what Bahamut is. All we know is after two Akh Morn the SMN calls Bahamut which de-summons Garuda Egi. We know it has a 15 sec time limit. We don't know if the Summon 2 pet bar is replaced with Bahamut's. We don't know if it moves or is stationary. We really don't know jack until 4.0 is in our hands.
I noticed that too, I squealed like a fangirl
https://www.finalfantasy.net/wp-cont.../2013/07/2.jpg
Is that a bad thing though? Whether it is a pet or not, it is what the playerbase asked for. The SMN fanbase is divided between wanting to focus on trance, and wanting to focus on pets, and this will be a loveletter for one of those sides, and if nothing else be a cool ability for the other. Ultimately, the ability captures the feel of SMN no matter what side you are on.
