It appears that WM has become a song that drains mana or some other ressource just like the other ones.
Don't know what to think about it yet, I thought the current WM was absolutely fine.

If it means that WM won't turn Bards into glorified casters then it's a good thing in my eyes. Gives me hope for GB for Machinists.
Will be interesting to see it in action, I didn't expect as many UI bars and actual changes to revolve around them (they appear more than simple UIs to our current mechanics, but introduce new mechanics). Like Paladin gets one too O_o?? Lol wow. I think I'm excited now :3.
That doesn't sound fun at all... I love how it currently works.
From the vid it looks like Minuet is used to build up potency of songs to make them stronger. Least that's my take on it. It's a good move on their part to remove the casting from both MCH and BRD since for BRD it was definitely shoehorned in.
Honestly I am so excited to see how this works. All the songs got their own somethings now.. Not sure what that means but it looked smexy in video.
It seems like I better postpone leveling my Bard so I get used to the new paradigm directly.
It's not as good as killing minuet and pretending it never existed. But it appears that it's being turned in to a cooldown and brd is going to having no cast times and more in line with how ranged physical dps tend to work in other games. Good! I might actually pick up brd again in stormblood, I'm so happy about that! I hated minuet and how shoe horned in it felt for brd, seems like SE is trying to dial back some of the more stupid concepts they implemented (enochian not being a passive, casting times for brd, etc.) and making them better.
Bard seems like it COMPLETELY changed. There was nothing I saw in the video that even remotely looks like how Bard is like now.
If I had to guess, the focus on Bard has shifted to effective management of three songs, Wanderer's Minuet (which appears to have received a total overhaul), Army's Paeon, and Mage's Ballad. And the songs all appear to have both a support and offensive aspect to them now. And I noticed a distinct lack of minuet casting times, which I imagine the devs might have axed because if we're going to be flipping between the three songs often, then that's enough casting as is.
They just confirmed that casting has been removed from the job for both Bard and Machinist.
WM killed a lot of the fun of BRD for me. I learned to live with it but never enjoyed it.
I'm really excited for the rework. :D
This change is amazing.
The songs appear to be stance switching, like mnk to me. Also looks like all cast timers are removed. So VM stance is prob a damage buff.
I'm more concerned about what this is going to do to our damage. Are we going to go back to ARR wet noodle damage without our permanent 30% increase? Are we only going to be allowed to use EA and IJ when the Minuet buff isn't on cooldown? Honestly, I prefer Minuet the way it is now because I was never one to endlessly kite stuff or run around randomly before I got it.
I'm excited for its removal but remain cautious about getting my hopes up.
Mmm, that has me a kinda worried, too, though I find being able to move freely again a relief. Was hard trying to fight in PvP when unable to hide amd snipe. XD Hopefully, we get a permanent stat buff Wander's Minuet gave us, because again while I enjoyed movement I did not like having to run in circles trying to kill enemies either. XD Hopefully we can get some slow and stop extra abilites added similar to what Machinist has to help with that, though not just copy pasted on.
Btw, what's going to happen to Wander's Paen? Will it become a actual useful song? I can't get to the video at the moment anytime soon. :0
I was fine with the change. But I main whm so I had that sweet spot when you could move and still cast mastered. I really hope we don't lose Iron Jaws. I was just thinking to myself last night that not only was that awesome, but some way to spread/AoE debuffs would be awesome as well.
I am loving this change. So happy to pick up Bard again~
Much preferable. I can stop hating this job now.
VICTORY! Salty Bowmage is no more! I am Bard REBORN!!!!
Me personally, I thought it was ok.. It actually felt like my BRD was ACTUALLY aiming there attacks at the target. it felt more immersive instead of having 100% accuracy while never looking at the target and kiting everything.. looks like were going back to that then lol
No more Foe ?
Feels like a return to the idea of all songs having some penalty to the Bard's own dps, such that you're trading personal dps for group utility, but in a way that better fits the buffing of songs mechanic that's been introduced. No more damage penalty on the other songs, and likely no mana cost—just whatever our new resource is instead—and raid offensive bonuses on either of the two previously (just) supportive songs, but with those weighed against the personal dps gain of WM.
I had no issues with the current WM save for how it was introduced and how long it locked you into it, but this seems like it could be fine as well. I'll miss having to think about how to weave oGCD skills, though, and Straighter Shot actually feeling significant.
This. Usually by the time I get back around to using it after making sure all my other dots are up and bloodletter procs are dealt with its time to rebuff dots and I nearly forget to reapply Straight Shot (unless of course it proc'd)... Hopefully this wont be the case anymore since we wont have to "cast" stuff. :)
Glad the cast time removal also effects machinist.
The change to WM was certainly long overdue. I'm very glad that bow mages will no longer be a thing and will be limited to just the 3.x series. I adapted, but it never felt right. It just always felt poorly done so I'm glad they are correcting their mistake.
Question. If WM drains MP and MB drains MP....where do we get more MP? I haven't watched the vid so feel free to correct me, but that's what it sounds like on this thread. In HW WM may give us the awful stand in one place and get shot thing, but at least it didn't suck up the MP.
I'm happy they got rid of WM and GB.
Never thought that they would, but they really did it.
It's possible that the rework of the songs means they no longer consume MP to sing. Sadly, they didn't really talk about Bard at all, so we don't know pretty much any details about how it will play in Stormblood (besides no more cast bars) yet. The job skill showcase definitely shows that the songs have been reworked to some extent, though (they all seem to affect hostile targets), and they all have a HUD display, so we'll see!
Not sure how to feel about this considering I am used to 3.0 play now and much like having viable and considerable burst damage. The transition back to hitting with paltry damage in exchange for being able to move(unnecessary?) freely seems a little bit of a scary and sad thought, but oh well, it has always been my main class and I will play it regardless either way.
But.... Paean is a wonderful skill. A little niche in it's usage at times, but otherwise wonderful.
Bittersweet, not lookong forward to adjusting playstyle AGAIN, but at the same time happy no more casts.
Indeed. This is the XIV devs we're talking about. I (half-jokingly) expect a significant nerf to BRD damage output in exchange for no longer being a bow mage again. Then when it goes live and a bunch of people complain after max level is commonly hit, they'll slowly buff it to decent numbers, over a series of patches. If they aren't terrible about balance in the initial patch, it isn't the normal team lol.
Glad to see they got rid of just about all the "bugbears" - Wm, GB, eno. The general ideas behind them were sound enough BUT they didn't seem to take into consideration how much more complicated they were making the mechanics, turning a lot of it into an exercise in frustration. Nice to see cleric changed as well. I still have no idea what I might main come SB seeing a lot of the things that put me off some jobs are now gone. It should be fun deciding, though.
And here I was hoping we'd end up going to a softer stance-dancing duality between, say, shortbow and longbow styles, wherein we could swing towards increased haste or monstrous numbers, where Straighter Shot could be a highlight factor in determining when to swap. RIP actually having to stance your shots despite using massive bows with presumably very high draw weights.
