too bad we can't tell people this in feast chat.....
I remember when Sneak farmed Diadem for days to max his crit/det and then realized the gear didn't work, poor guy :)
It works but it seems a lot weaker than normal gear after sync. A normal accessory gives 24 Crit and 23 det, a diadem accessory gave 9 Crit 9 det 9 skill speed when synced. (only tested an accessory)
I'm glad I found this ... so I don't have to look for a whole diadem set for my mage with crit, det and sps ..
Aetherial gear secondary stats do not work synched since 2.0, nothing new here. I submitted a couple of bug reports before which were successfully ignored, so there's nothing we can do about it.
It absolutely should not be capping off all its secondaries; that would defeat the purpose of ilvl sync in pvp. The relic does this, which is questionable, but not really a huge deal by itself since it only signifies a slight advantage. The potential for that across every single gear slot would become a significant advantage.
(and i will quit this game before I grind that godawful place for pvp gear)
The screenshot is from patch 3.2 patch notes, same time feast came out so it's likely they were considering pvp implications with it. I've been told it was actually a buff though (wording is vague...) and that aetherial sync'd went from useless to just almost-useless
I was testing a lot of first Diadem gear in 3.1 and it always had 0 secondaries when synched. They buffed it to 9 now but it's still too low when caps are up to 49.
On a side note, I don't know why many players wear full Garo set. It's not required for mounts or anything and don't give any advantages.
Proper PvP set is a mix of PvE, PvP and crafted gear based on their secondary stats.
How much of each stat must be present on the relic in order for the ilvl sync to view it as a 'proper' stat and downsync it to it's full value? My relic for instance, has literally 1 (one) skillspeed, and it's only giving me that 1 point even when downsynced, so it's not like you can put 1 point in every stat and trick the game into thinking its a quad-stat item and giving you max downsynced amounts of crit+det+sks+parry.
I did see someone who went a bit further though and had an anima with stats evenly divided among all the substats (71crit 71det 71sks 71 parry or something), which makes me wonder if there's a minimum amount that needs to be on the item in order to trick the game into syncing it like a real stat.

Caps on weapon for Acc, Sks, Sps, Crit and Parry are all 56 (I had 4 extra points so I dumped them into crit. With my relic I still get 56 crit in pvp). Det is 53. Im not sure what cap on Piety is, except that its lower than det's :S This should be the same across all jobs, with the exception of Pld (since it has mh+oh)
Edit: pie is 46, just checked
For reference, you can check the mb, or goto the lodestone or xivdb.com and look for the *HQ* crafted 150 gear pieces. If you look at the secondaries, one number will be higher than the other. The higher number is the cap for that stat. The smaller secondary stat is below its cap, so ignore that. If you're able to look at the meld caps in the materia melding menu (not sure if those sites show them, you might need to own the gear to check), the meld caps for each stat are the ilvl sync caps. Anyways, this is why you need at least i190+ gear to be truly capped (or 180 pvp, due to morale, and this is the only useful thing morale does in the game btw)
For clarification, individual stats do not scale, they're capped. And that cap is for each stat type; there is no cap on the overall total number of stat points gear can have (ie a piece of gear with 3x secondaries will have more total than a piece with 2x secondaries) If I had done 71 crit, 71 det, 71 sks, and 71 parry, It'd sync to 56 crit/56 det/56 sks/56 parry (~112 bonus secondaries, vs ~172 like how I have). Again I dont really think relics should work this way and it probably seems hypocritical that I have mine set up like that. Personally, though, I do it mostly to be cute and show how few *cough*'s I give for pve content xD
same reason people pvp with their i270 pve gearset. same reason people cast protect in the middle of combat, or use abilities like foresight. They dont know any better. Not exactly their fault, either. SE doesn't go out of its way to explain all the nuances of pvp. In the case of garo gear, they're probably thinking the morale does something. And with good reason. Just looking at the tooltip it sounds great. Even if they understood pvp was limited to i150 sync, how should one be expected to know which statement takes precedence over the other? Its just like with the materia bit on pvp gear "materia only active during pvp" and then in the df descriptions for pvp stuff "materia is disabled during pvp". Um... wut? Its really absurd.
Ah so it's just a matter of having a base amount of stats on the gear that's higher than the value it would get capped to at i150, that makes sense.
I'll give it a shot if I ever get a coven weapon, otherwise my relic's tied up being used for PvE stuff.
