Proto Ultima - The first 24 Man Trial

There were rumors about Proto Ultima being a 24 Man Trial, as well as the 24 Man Trial being exclusive to Fanfest.

But it is now confirmed to be a 24 Man trial on the updated 3.55 page.

Pretty sure that they said during the 3.55a coverage at Frankfurt that Proto-Ultima will drop ALL accessories.

Fingers crossed that they have nice stats to make me give up on some hold-out 250 pieces.

Think you might be a little to late with no spoilers as there was a post of a all tank group taking it down. Granted it was only 8 man and they had less than 1 sec when cleared but from the screenshots in the links the mechanics appear to be the same from the 8 man version.

If it's all accessories, BiS on all Jobs will probably take a big hit.

The main thing is if it's a weekly drop, and if it's Savage-like drops, get chest, try gain next week.

yeah they told us it's all accessories, and unlock condition is secret

I never really liked the Ultima theme, I hope the music for it is a remix of Maker's Ruin! Looking forward to getting more 270 accessories as well, I've complained about the ring lockout several times before. I'll farm this fight for some 270 rings then I'll probably stop.

Whether they change it for live I'm unsure of but at the fanfest it was exactly the same as the previous Ultima fights was a very fun fight though. :)

The trial was made significantly easier for the fanfest. We will get the hard version on release.

There is a thing I don't like at all. Seems the trial won't be accessible as much as we want. Won't be in the Duty Fider or Raid finder, and we will need trigger it, or full-fill specific conditions,maybe by doing the Proto Ultima Fate or something like that. Son won't be easily farmable as I expected (which makes sense, dropping 270 accessories). Also, I think they said accessories will be job specific, not role specific. That means DRk, PLD and WAR won't share accessories, same for the other groups.

The version at fan fest was definitely 24-man, not sure why people are saying it was an 8-man version. The event difficulty was obviously softer because everyone is on unfamiliar setups at fan fest with only a few minutes of setup (I know I had a whale of a time playing with keyboard/mouse when I'm normally controller-only). Even then, a lot of groups were wiping and failing the DPS check. It was a fun fight and I'm looking forward to seeing the full tuned version :)

Hundreds of players camping Azys Lla waiting for the FATE. Then come Stormblood, nobody needs the FATE anymore, and new players don't even realise a Proto-Ultima trial exists. Of course, I'm sure there would be an alternative method to unlock the fight later if this is true.

I hope it's not related to the FATE as it's the one special FATE I have never once seen and getting enough people together to clear the boss FATEs is already impossible outside of peak times; I don't think there are 24 people online on my world outside of instances at most times of day, let alone 24 who want to fight Proto Ultima simultaneously. Low population servers are fun. There's got to be another way, since I doubt they'll be balancing this in such a way that most of the populations of entire worlds are unable to participate.

I cannot see them gating it like that. If they do, it'll be DoA. I also doubt they make accessories role specific. There just isn't a point.

This sounds like it might be fun. Accessibility IS a concern of mine, since it requires a huge player count, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless. I liked the original Ultima fight a lot and have been wishing for an EX-type version for some time.

It was 24 man on fan fest.

But I hope the fight on Fanfest was a shortened version.

All chars were geared with i250 Alex normal gear and i255 Sophia weapon, but the fight was done in less than 3 minutes.

I'm a little bit worried about this. As far I remember, thay said that there will be no information about proto ultima. Not on a site. Not in the patchnotes. People should find it their own.

Yep, all we know right now is that the entry reqs for it "are a secret". That doesn't mean they will stay a secret. Likely it's part of some special storyline they don't want to reveal right now and once that's done it'll be accessible in either DF or RF normally.

I attended Las Vegas, it was a great fight hopefully they will buff it up a bit and crossing fingers for music to get more hype. Would be nice if they alternate the moves a bit too. Overall I'm looking forward to it.

I was actually thinking this over under the shower and a really crazy theory hit me for this:

Assuming this is 24-man indeed ...

Hasn't Yoshi-P hinted in previous live letters that Dun Scaith might not be the end of that particular story arc ?
EDIT: Live letter 33: " This was going to be the end of the series, but there may be something else in store..."

Wouldn't it therefore be reasonable to check a certain small semi-instanced zone off the Sea of Clouds ?

Considering they made Odin harder for its release vs the fanfest version, this will likely be the same.

i was at the Frankfurt fanfest the fight is really fun lots of aoes and moving around with a dps check at the end before the enrage one shot from hypernova but like people have said the event was dumb down abit so all people at the event could havea good go plus the char we had to use at the fan fest were ilvl 251 so maybe they might make it ilvl 260 as we are getting 270 gear from it

my guess as to what it unlocked might be linked to the warring triad after clearing zurvan it might unlock a new quest that ends the story for them with a battle with proto ultima maybe proto ultima is also locked away inside the flagship and the garleans have found it and reactivated it

But we know it's not because it can be seen flying around Azys Lla during the Proto Ultima Zone FATE. It is most certainly associated with something in Azys Lla, but it is most certainly not locked away.

I don't understand the reason/lore of proto ultima in aziz la. He's doing nothing but collecting aether once in a year while we force the access and destroy this place/power source from evrywhere :v

Yeah, if we recall Odin from fanfest, I'm pretty sure players could Silence(?) Odin's AoE Bleed attack. I could be remembering wrong, but I know the Odin at FanFest was easier than Odin in game (who is easy, but doing the DPS was hard apparently).

I am excited for the story regarding Proto Ultima, the rewards don't interest me thought, perhaps we finally get dyeable Ultima Horns as a incentive...

You were able to silence the bleed aoe in fanfest, but in 2.5 you can't.

My guess the Proto Ultima theme will be the one that was playing from the 3.5 trailer when it was showing Diadem.

We still don't know the plan of Diabolos and what was the reason he wanted the power of Scathach.

I wonder if, beside accessories, he'll drop his exoplating (for the horns, etc) considering, i think, not many people clear his FATE nowadays.

I wonder what the difficulty level will be. Obviously it won't be too crazy since it is a 24 member duty. Buuut, 270 item level accessories?

The only reason i see the FATE being related to this is if it's a one time unlock or unlock for the whole week.

Simply because let's say, 16 people find the FATE and end it on a server, but nobody else in the Datancenter has done it yet, so will be a 16 people infinite queue until someone else in the datacenter also finishes the fate on their server, which again can be 20+ people, which means other people would then be stuck in the queue.

People from some of my groups attending fanfest said it was vastly undertuned - but on the other hand, SE promised to make it harder on release. We will see. We will see...
