100M GIL taken

i had created the rank officer in my fc. my friend needed to spend credits on buffs. A FC member asked if they could have officer too since he hasnt been online in a while. they would do the fc buffs. well they must have seen the setting in officer "promote/demote" was active because after i logged out they promoted themself to my rank and took 100m from my fc chest. dismantled 4 rank 50 airships and broke my workshop. then cleaned out all 180 housing items. then kicked everyone from the fc.

GM report was finalized. they said that they can not return any of my gil or items lost because in doing so they would indirectly admit that action was taken against the player and they can not disclose actions taken if any.

opinion. Should I give up? I have lost everything... Should I try to find the motivation to start over? I hear this is something that has happened to many FC so I am not alone in my situation, but I don't see how I can go on after taking such a loss.

If your FC was a strong group then you should try rebuilding. This happens some times. As a rule my FC is extremely careful who they let get access to the controls of the FC. This sucks but its something to learn from and sometimes the act of rebuilding can end up being a fun journey in its own right. It all depends on your FC members and what they want. The heart of any FC is its members. Everything else can be redone.

Sounds like the GM is saying you are out of luck and there is no chance to get your gil or items back.

Screenshot any evidence that you can, and then post it on social media like your server's Facebook. If Square Enix won't deal with the trash, the community will.

Also, learn to be mistrustful. It will help you a ton. Fix your FC ranks, don't let other people access the gil, and only allow yourself to demolish the house/whatever.

This has happened to me twice now. Though not to your extent, it almost did though third time but I stopped it.
All I can tell you is sorry but the mods won't do anything. I still see the people who did it around though they run when they see me and have zero friends as I let it be known what happened. The mods will only temp ban them as the idea is you were asking for it when you gave them the rank/power.

Keep on trucking and just be more careful in the future. Hit me up online if you need to talk or if you want advice on how to avoid it in the future.

SE should never allow anyone to promote themselves into a higher position than they are already in.

An unfortunate lesson that is learned all too often and is taken advantage of by ne're-do-wells all the time. Devs, can we please add hierarchy to the ranks and disallow promoting yourself above your rank?

There is a setting that gives you the only right to promote and demote. Use that. Like myahele said it should be by default but it isn't. I know it takes the wind out of you when they betray you like that, but there are good people, and your former FC mates need you to be their leader and hold your head high and carry on.

Balmung has a Facebook group share and shame them there.

Learn from this. The only person who should have promote/demote and access to gil inside company chest is you and you alone, until such a time that they actually fix this oversight.

As much as it sucks you have partial blame in this for giving an untrusted stranger that kind of permissions, but it's also a MAJOR flaw that people can promote above their own rank.

A similar thing happened to the old FC I was a leader of, though not nearly to your scale, and the dude came back practically begging me to forgive him days later. So I didn't feel the need to slander his name. (I think a very vengeful co-leader of the FC did though. :/ )

But if the damage was as bad as you say and this guy did it in cold blood and is attempting to disappear, I would plaster his name and what he did everywhere you can get away with it. Make it impossible for him to get into another FC, make the server exile him. As was already mentioned, the GMs won't do squat about it, but the community sure as hell will, and the community deserves to be aware of what trash lurks among them so the same thing doesn't happen somewhere else.

Yes it makes no sense. The only person that should have access to promote/demote and change hierarchy settings is the FC leader.

Personally, FC's shouldn't even be allowed to have money.

Take Blade and Soul for example, once you donate gold, it cannot be returned and can only used for clan crafts. And Guild features are binded to clan members. So pretty much anything using clan resources is worthless outside the clan.

Here is a tip, go look him up on the lodestone and get his member ID# so you can keep tabs incase he tries to fantasia and name change to do this again. One of the members that robbed us I would keep an eye on and inform FCs when they joined and shared privately screencaps of the incident so they are aware and could protect themselves. I'm not going to smear them, but I'll be damned if I let them do it to someone else.

youre SoL. when it comes to things like this, GMs wont get involved. youre the one that gave them access. as F'd up as it may seem, theres nothing you can do

If you have a big FC, there ends up being too much small stuff for a single person to micromanage, so they often have different officers in charge of different things.
There are a number of other situations I can think of that get easier through giving others the right to promote/demote others but not gonna list them all here. Just for example:
Let's say you have someone who is doing something bad while the leader is offline. The other officers can take his rank away so he can't do anything anymore or even kick him entirely.
I don't think the feature in and of itsself should be abolished, it just needs to be set to off by default and the entire rights part needs to be clearer and more customizable in general.

From there, all you can do is expect players to be somewhat causious. After all, if in real life someone asks for the key to the cellar so he can take out the trash for you
but you give him your entire key chain including the key to your home, you will most likely get lucky because most people are not thieves, but if you got unlucky and all your stuff is gone,
insurance companies are not gonna be very helpful because they'll argue you gave him access to do it.

As for the actual topic:
It may be hard, but think of the really important things right now. The most important things can't be destroyed by something like that, and that's the bonds you forged with your fellow FC members :)
Banding together after losing a lot can only make you even closer, standing together in the face of hardship. All you lost are just numbers in a game, they can be recreated.
After a big loss, everyone usually works extra hard to get to the point again you were at before, so getting there is a lot faster than it was the first time around. Don't let that kind of thing bring you down!

I do find that to be an odd feature of this game. I'm not going to say it's a first, but it's not how I'm used to any sort of guild/clan/free company working in any other game. Usually, aside from any system that allows an inactive guild leader to be replaced, you can't ever promote yourself or anyone else above your rank or sometimes even to your rank.

You got part of the blame of this, but just to think someone could do something like that boil my blood, it deserve death by stone.
Use Reddit an Facebook an get us those names, the community will make sure he harm nobody ever again.

SE still hasn't fixed that messed up promote/demote rank? Cause if they didn't they have their share of responsibility somehow. I mean where in the world have you seen people promote other for grades higher than their own?

Why in the world is this still a thing? Like.. its been this way for ages - why? This is not a minor issue, SE needs to either place a massive fat warning next to the rank and ask "are you sure" many times before letting leaders give someone that power... or just actually fix it (so one cannot promote above themselves).

Whyyy! lol. Thankful I haven't known anyone that had to deal with this, and I warn those who have rank promoting as a given power - but.. y, y SE? lol

Same here only I alone have access to promote/demote and the gil in the FC chest.

It's not "messed up" at all. It's intentional and quite beneficial.

The reason they allow you to give permission to promote above your rank is because it's extremely common for guild leaders to quit the game or leave for long periods, abandoning their guilds with no recourse but to disband and reform, losing all benefits in the process.

Blaming SE at all for what happened to the OP is not a valid response. Yes, it sucks that the OP lost what he did and the person who committed the act is despicable, but what happened was very preventable with relatively minimal effort.

@OP I wouldn't quit or give up. Yes, it sucks, but learn from it, pick yourself up and move on. Especially if your FC is still willing to play together.

That was a very recent mechanic added. And it's likely easier to leave the promote mechanic the way it is than to change it. Again, it's not SE's fault. It's like saying knife manufacturers are to blame when people are assaulted or killed with knives.

Not really knifes have safety measures to protect people. We have no proper safety measures in place in a FC. An officer should have the responsibility to promote/demote/kick people yet we can't give them all options in case we get screwed over.

Also not recent I am sure it came out between 2.2-2.4

Yes, that's recent. Meaning it was added well after the fact. The original mechanic to prevent FCs from having to disband in the case the leader quits was the ability to allow people of lower rank to promote up (if the master agreed).

And what are you talking about "no safety measures"? The master has full control over who gets the ability and who doesn't. You'd only have a valid point if you couldn't change the permission setting.

Very sorry to hear and possibly try and rebuild and learn from the experience.
Myself i do trust the officers but for the most part have all ranks but myself to deposit gil only, they could always ask if gil is needed.
We have our 3rd tab of the FC chest set so only officers and crafters have access as it is mostly mats and stuff from airship voyages.
Now the members that were booted out may not be too friendly anymore but i would talk to them.
Sorry if you have not said if you have or not but sure hope you got rid of the person that did this?

Recent is not 2.2-2.4 and def not when we are talking 2 years ago that is not recent. How does it make any sense that someone lower than you can just promote themselves to leader.

100% true about the leader, yet at the same time it shouldn't even be an issue. Even the most basic of games wouldn't even allow this. Hell even linkshells don't allow the leaders to take over the master it's stupid and should be fixed.

No I think you are misunderstanding I am fully aware how the system works. Yet the leader has too many responsibility's and should be able to offload to officers. Your point is silly, as their is an option available 30 or 45 days of inactivity also you don't have to disband the FC.

You just made the same point others are making for this to be possible you would have to give someone the option to promote/demote. Which you can't do as you risk being screwed over. Regardless of a sudden emergency you are not gonna risk passing leader to someone to find that when you get back the FC is sold, house demolished,robbed,ships dismantled etc.

After I had logged out is when they promote themself to the rank that was only for my alt. after taking my 100m and dismantling my 4 rank 50 airships they destroyed the workshop kicked all members and deleted all 180 housing items. when i got back i was alone with an empty house ince then only 2 ppl have returned to the FC and no i would never let them back in, but on lodestone the id is now deleted so they didnt change race name or server its completely gone.

I'm afraid of something like that too. So when I create a new rank, I make sure I UNTICK EVERY SINGLE THING, before I select what rights I want to give that rank.

Precisely. It's always better to have more options. It makes zero logical sense to remove an option that is potentially beneficial just because it can be abused if the leader is careless.

And that's what it is. Carelessness. You can choose not to use the mechanic at all and never risk what happened to the OP.
