FFXIV x Zodiac Age

Stormblood is set to release June of this year, about a month later Final Fantasy XII: Zodiac Age is released. As we know the 24 man raid for Stormblood is "Return to Ivalice", a raid series themed after Final Fantasy Tactics. Ivalice is also the setting for FFXII.

Do you think we'll see a collaboration event for the release of Zodiac Age?

Actually, I'm starting to think Return to Ivalice might actually be related to XII's Ivalice. Someone mentioned that a writer for XII was working alongside the XIV team for the raid. I'm also starting to wonder if the two existing is a situation of just all aboard the hype train, or because they have something to lead in with.

It is yes. FFXII, the tactic games, vagrant story, and soon XIV, are all a part of the same Ivalice.

No-no, they are of the same Ivalice, but they're in different time periods. You'd be seeing a much different setting depending on what state of Ivalice they are basing it on.

We still have no word about the FFXV collab and that has been out for months already AND is announced to definitely get a collab.
Better not get your hopes up, or if we actually get one for the FFXII re-release, expect it much further down the line :x

Yeah, still waiting on XV event....they've really dropped the ball. Their first main game release and no collab :(

I think YoshiP said they were trying to figure a way to tie in FFXV for a collab, since XIV and XV are so different in world design. I think an XII collab would much easier to tie in, seeing as how the 24 man raid will actually relate. XV collab will definitely happen eventually, I am just hoping an XII event is considered.

Why do a collab on something everyone knows when you can do a collab that mainly Japanese players know and a small amount of English players like Garo.

I adore Ivalice. Though I'd only want a crossover event if it did Ivalice justice, gave us neat rewards and involved something less tedious than a straight up grind.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, we didn't learn anything about void ark until a few months after 3.0s release. Them teasing return to ivalice is likely for nostalgia hype rather than the intent of giving us follow up information any time soon. I expect info and concept art in the first live letter of 4.0 and no sooner.

The Sunken Temple of Quarn makes me think it's a throwback to Miriam temple, you even fight the Miriam facers and the Miriam Guardian as boss just renamed as Adjudicator.

As been a long time ago i played ff xii xD well, there is many places they can do dongeons. Same in viera forest. Where Zodiark was in FF xii ? Its maybe there 0.0 Cant wait to have a pic of this raid

FFXV has only recently been released. They have said that, to make a proper collaboration, those characters need some time to sink properly into the minds of players and developpers.

On the other hand, everybody fully knows FF XII already, so all those references and easter egg will easily resonate. They could design a quest where you have to tell every passer-by to not believe Zenos' lies because you're captain Van Baelsar ! :p

FFXV is still too recent to do a event now :/ i guess they wait people on PC play it first

Ivalice and Hydaelyn are currently two completely separate worlds. The raid in Stormblood could change this (and would be a pretty big deal), but until it does XIV has set a precedent for using things from previous FF titles but those things being their own thing in the XIV world and not the actual original. Currently there is no compelling reason (especially given previous interviews on the connected or not nature of the world) to think this will change.

To add to this, the ascians are a big reference to ivalice, and pretty much make going to the actual ivalice a weird thing, as a lot of paralleling lore would be confusing. I honestly think this raid will be centered around the ascians more than anything else.

XV isnt available on PC, nor has it officially been announced to come out for PC. The team wants to release it but are not decided.

Ah yes, good point.

In FXII Zodiark is a serpent thing with wings, while in FFXIV Zodiark is allegedly a Dark Crystal. If the Ivalice in XII and Tatics and XIV are the same Ivalice and if the two Zodiarks are the same, not sure how the latter game will explain his crystal form.

I wouldn't even humour the idea. Zodiark is the massive overarching evil for the entirety of eorzea and his relevance is noted at all times, having him be a reference to ivalice would cheapen the plot IMO. It would be the equivilent to Xande being the actual Xande from FFIII and the allagan empire being founded from the aftermath of FFIII.

I'm not sure Zodiark can take up the slot as the massive overarching evil for Eorzea, given his will is the rejoining of the shards to gain freedom. By comparison the Void's denizens want to turn every reflection into a Void as well, destroying everything in the process. Zodiark is the prime opposition to Hydaelyn, but we don't have any guarantees that Hydaelyn is some kind of benevolent entity, or that Zodiark delights in our suffering.

You are correct, it was short sighted of me to call him evil, with him literally just being darkness/chaos without an agenda. As agents of hydaelyn though, he (it) IS our overarching antagonist.

The major nations from FF12 already have their namesakes in FF14 in Garlean territory. Ivalice will quite likely just be a region in the Garlemald empire that acted as an alliance against the Garlean invasion. The two worlds really aren't that compatable. The geography, metaphysics and even noteworthy figures don't really match up.

Considering the general contempt his followers have for mortals and the fact that every rejoining kills massive numbers on the source world and everything on the shard world its hardly friendly. Admittedly we really only have one side of the story at this point. 'Evil' or no, Zodiark's goals are most definitely not benevolent towards mortals, if only by the fact that they are collateral damage.

I wish they would do stuff like this instead of Garo heh I have no idea what it is...much rather have more FF crossover stuff in XIV ! :)

Not quite sure he is Chaos incarnate to be honest. Darkness, perhaps, though whether that is due to aether deprivation for so long is another question. Yes, we are agents of Hydaelyn, yes what strange coincidences exist between us and the Ascians? Look at the Warriors of Darkness, once Warriors of Light.

Keeping in mind, of course, that not all his followers show contempt for Mortals.

Elidibus not only shows respect and diplomacy when interacting with us and other mortals, he's even saved a few mortal lives (Warring Triad Spoiler). Above the other Ascians he seems the most in tuned to the will of Zodiark, and above them all, seems determined to find a balance between Light and Darkness, as the voids which form from the dominance of one serve no one. Given it is the balance between Light and Dark which makes it possible for mortal life to even exist in the first place, I would say Zodiark is not so keen on our extinction as Hydaelyn would like to have us believe.

Anyways, this is getting a bit off topic. The question was how a FFXII Zodiark and a FFXIV Zodiark could be the same being.

Should be noted that Elidibus only cares about the balance insofar as it prevents another void event like the one that happened on the 13th shard. Once a Rejoining is ready to occur, he is all about pushing things to the exact edge they need to be for the shard world to be destroyed and absorbed back into the Source.

A probable way it will all play out, though it does beg the question of what series of events would send us to such a location within the Empire (not that such events are improbable in and of themselves, but with the focus being on Ala Mhigo having additional reasons to visit another region in the Empire will need a compelling narrative driving it).

I hope that FFXIV: Return to Ivalice takes part during the FFTactics Story, that is a world I would like to see more of (especially a more detailed world, with current technology). I think more than likely however, we will get 3 Raids, set different time periods...

I also think that Unukalhai is from Ivalice.

Take a look at how "Doma" is referenced in FFXIV -- we've never gone there or even seen the place. We've just met people from there, heard some stories about it, etc. It's a vague reference to a country in FFVI, but I don't think it's literally meant to be understood that everything in FFVI is now canon in FFXIV.

"Ivalice" could work like that. In fact, I don't think the "Ivalice" in FFXII and FF Tactics (not to mention Tactics Advance) are even meant to be the same place -- it's just a word to describe a general aesthetic, mood, and creative team behind the games. Whatever we see in the upcoming FFXIV content will likely be a mish-mash of stuff from Tactics and XII. Maybe we'll get Agrias, Fran and Balthier to make an appearance. Heck, they can throw some Vagrant Story elements in there too (not technically Ivalice, but Valendia where that game takes place is referenced in XII).

I think things will be a bit too tied up with the release of SB. Anyway we will be getting an Alliance raid as a reference to FF12. Sure, it won't actually be the same world from FF12 but there are likely going to be a lot of references.

The Ivalice-themed raid will just be exactly that, Ivalice-themed. It is almost guaranteed to not actually be the Ivalice, but a FFXIV-lore-centric raid which has name, decor and enemy references to the Ivalice-set games, just like how the Crystal Tower is not the FFIII version, nor is Palace of the Dead the Tactics Ogre version, they are FFXIV areas with name references to other games, nothing more. The development team actually stated this outright in the past:

Of course we'll be finding out soon enough, but the fact is, given how the Crystal Tower was handled, I don't see this Ivalice-themed raid as being nothing more different than that, i.e. a place that fits directly in FFXIV lore which just happens to have the same name as a place from the Ivalice games, as there is no reason for Yoshi and Maehiro to go back on their earlier comments and directly connect Hydaelyn and Ivalice together.

Also remember, FFXIV is an ensemble game, it references and cherishes all FF games, not just FFXII and the Ivalice games. Directly connecting the two together would make that very idea invalid I'm afraid.
