No PS3 support? Does the mean fewer Loading Screens?

Greetings,

I'm not really sure if ps3 support will end completely for XIV but now that we know for sure Stormblood will be for Windows and PS4 does this mean we can stop all these loading screens in ARR? XIV could have more sense of flow if for example the starting areas were seamless just like in the original game. The 3 capital cities stopped having their gates connect seamlessly to the outside world when ARR launched and ever since its just been loading screens connecting these areas. Ill include pictures from all three capital cities showing these areas below. Whether this is important I'll leave it up to the rest of you guys.

Old probs not but new ones yeah like the how flying is only in HW and newer zones.

1.0 was not on any Consoles, yet the Landscapes weren't nice either to an extend, it had flaws and lacked Detail, not to mention all the Copy & Paste.

Now's the Question for you :

Would you give up 1-2 Patches for that Feature above? They have to remodel every Map and connect them seamlessly given the Fact Weather has to be changed too and all different Features aswell.
This is no task to be done in a matter of one or two Days, it would take Months to do so.

Those long hallways, the bridge, and the sections between zones were essentially masked loading screens, you could see a person disappear when they went beyond the zone wall. It had the same effect as a loading screen, and the hallways were actually longer than it takes me to zone in the current game lol.

Some days I wish I could erase the existence on 1.x from everyone's memories so people would stop asking to have things back from a game that failed for a variety of reasons, most of which are ironically the things people ask to have back.

Doubt it. It would probably take a lot of work and QA to redo all the zones and connect them together. I mean they haven't even added flying to ARR areas yet.

It's not going to change - SE broke up regions into individual zones and separated them by loading screens because players were complaining about 1.0's large empty environments that repeated the same landforms over and over again and were filled with long expanses of nothing, it was the price that was paid for having large zones. So SE gave players what they wanted in ARR with much smaller though more highly detailed zones with transitions broken by loading screens.

'PS3 limitations' had nothing to do with it (there are strong rumours that the actual PS3 version of 1.0 was actually complete and ready to go, but SE decided to abandon ever launching it due to the PC version's disastrous launch, and it became a moot point when the development team was changed, Yoshi took over and it was decided to replace 1.0 with ARR completely.).

Whether that is true or not I have no idea, but the PS3 version had been planned to launch a mere six months after the PC version did in March 2011. So it would have had to have been at least at an advanced stage of development to have such a planned launch date).

Either way, the abandonment of PS3 support for ARR will not suddenly make this game become Second Life with a FF skin, as much as certain players seem to want it to be.

They will not be making major changes to ARR or to HW. This should be clear with their stated intention to bring PTW to the game via the "jump potions".

Anything built with "PS3 Limitations" in mind will remain pretty much as-is as long as the game lasts. They simply won't have to factor in "PS3 Limitations" for future expansions. Now, it will be alternating "Toaster PC Limitations" then after they get rid of the Toasters, it will be "PS4 Limitations".

And they are killing the PS3 client COMPLETELY. If anyone is still on PS3, they need to upgrade to PS4 or PC before Stormblood hits, or they will be giving up the game entirely.

Lots of good points as to why ARR implemented these changes. But I still think that the game could benefit from these ignored areas. That bridge in Gridania is beautiful scenery right?

Pick up an ssd or sshd and you'll wait less.

I use a m.2 drive. Loading is not the problem its just having a loading screen instead of a seamless connection to the outside zones is what I was talking about.

There will be still loading screens
If you mean removing the zone borders, that would mean a redesign of all maps again. There are currently holes between the zones, that we just jump over during the loading screens. Best example to this is the big stair in CT2. For now we just enter the stair and get loaded to the next level without climbing up. Without the loading screen, the stair have to get fixed so we can climb it up for 1 minute before we reach the next level of the tower.

Unfortunately this won't change at least for the old maps. They can make bigger Stormblood maps though. I guess the new maps have been built without the PS3 limitations baked in. I don't expect any major change though. This was just the optimistic scenario. They can however make more "lively" cities with more npcs, more buildings and assets and more detailed maps.

I think all the cities should be like in 1.0 except Ul'dah. The Ul'dah tunnel was just silly. I want Gridania's canopies and Limsa's bridge to come back!!!

Not all 1.0 is bad. The "gates connect seamlessly to the outside world" is actually a good idea and it makes the world feel big. The issue with 1.0 was the design of the world, not the structure of how it is connected to one zone to another. If you are just going to base it on videos you saw in YouTube then you will not get the OP's point. However I do think this will never happen. They will have to restructure the maps and it would take resources and time. If it is already working they won't do anything to it unless maybe a lot of players demand for it.

I don't think they could ever go back to seamless zones. It would be hard to program in now and I'm sure players would be angry at the downtime trying to put them back in. Square made a deal with Sony and they are stuck with it.

i think the major issue with going back to the older style it is not due to console is the fact alot of people didnt like it, it felt empty at points, now they have designed the whole game around the way it is now it could have the domino effect, ok so we fix it back to normal, but this part here was tied into the new style, so they fix that then the part they just fixed is tied into to something else and they have to fix that, it could be a long drawn out process. and runs the risk of people going hey i dont like going back to that way and leaving the game.

Dropping PS3 resulted in the devs being able to ;
-make the new city, Kugane, into one seemless zone full of NPCs
-continue with making the large, HW style maps but make them more lively, detailed, and vertical
-add more detail to dungeons, i.e. many active NPCs in the backgroud of the final MSQ dungeon
-add extra mechanics to dungeons and bosses
-add job specific UI elements

I doubt it'd be 2 patches. But perhaps it'd be one patch. Although, all they'd have to do is use the new engines textures. The models are already made. In any case, I'd gladly see that. And by the way, that would be a patch of new content. It would not be an easy undertaking, but it would at least make the original areas feel big again like 3.0 and 4.0 areas.

That's why between cities and the surrounding areas, we should be able to ride a chocobo. Or use aethernet to pop ourselves out like before.

You know, seeing that Ixion topic earlier with the instance being congested because too many ppl camping ixion, that would be a terrible idea in the long run. Cause you'd have ppl that wouldn't be able to get int othe area when leaving town/teleporting in the area that need to do questing or w/e. After that they would need to upgrade the servers to accomodate these changes to allow MORE people per instances, would just be a hassle.

I want these areas to come back sooooooooo badly! We should be able to visit these last parts of Eorzea that we can frustratingly see but can't go to!!!
