Favorite type of mechanics, for trails and raids what do you wana see in Stormblood?

Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays and enjoyed the news of red mage for the next expansion. So I just wanted peoples opinions on what they like and dislike about some of the mechanics in the game when it comes to trails and I guess you could say raids or dungeons as well.

So me personally I enjoy dodging , some debuffs depending on , I can even take a few one shot kills. Ha what I loathe tho are platforms, I hate mechanics that involve if you fall off of this platform game over, I know many will disagree but to me whether or not you can stay on a platform has nothing to do with skill but that's just my opinion. So I hate stuff like titan extreme , prob want do shopia I just know that its not my area of being good. But if you give me something I can do on the ground I'm good to go I will do it until I get it right, falling off just discourages me personally ha ,but that's me ha I wana know everyone else's opinion. What type of mechanics are your favorite , and what do you want to see more of in the future?

Do you think staying on a platform is putting your skills to the test or do you like debuffs, are lots of aoe mechanics dodging, or one shot kills. What is it that challenges you the most I know many people don't think a lot of the game is challenging, but I'm sure you could think of something. Just wanted to make a thread about this to see what kinda mechanics people want, that can test them and put their skills to use.

I love dodging things, actually my favorite boss of the game is Taulurd from Dzemael, especially as a melee DPS ! (I know i'm a weird person ^^")
I hope we'll see more AoE patterns, Wildstar did a great job with that and it was fun

Honestly I never cared for the mechanics of the fight especially fights like titan and sophia...I rather go into a fight knowing that the boss has a certain number of skills he will use, my job's skills and abilities and gear should be all I need to deal with whatever he throws at me. I hate having to memorize positions to stand in and when to run...theres enough chaos on the screen for me to be running around either healing or supporting or doing damage in some way. All my opinion of course, other people will probably disagree.

Also I did enjoy the first part of Crystal Tower... Hoping to see more of that in the future.

There's nothing wrong with this opinion, but yeah >___<, these are my favorite moments! When everyone has a specific place to be and has to get there at the right time--I love the "teamwork" feel to that, as everyone has to be on their game together and a few good people can't just steam roll it/carry. Yeah, it's super annoying to wipe because one or two people don't know where to go or don't pay attention... but when everyone gets it down, those type of fights look almost like a dance or a perfectly timed maneuver as everyone moves to their exact places at just the right moment! I feel like there's a bigger feeling of accomplishment when you see your entire party do the mechanic exactly as intended compared to just wailing away on the boss. Like, Thordan definitely feels more rewarding to me than say... Bismarck. XD

As for what I'd actually like to see... More fights that take advantage of other actions the game as built in, like maybe a fight where we have to use {transport} to get an object to set locations or fights that take advantage of the flying mechanic. Maybe just less typical square/circle arenas? A fight where we have to move around across a larger map while battling sounds like it would be fun to me.

In Alexander 11 there's a mechanic in there in which you have to jump on top of the plane, and then dismount before he blows you up. I want to see more of this QTE type gameplay added, and maybe instead of pushing any button, you say have to push the move forward key, etc, possibly chained into a sequence, or else you wipe the group). I feel this was a nice little change of pace and something I'd like to see utilised more

This is not going to be specific to dungeons or raids but, I'm kind of tired of when you pull a mob (say like In a fate or something) the first thing the mob wants to do is some sort of casted frontal cone thing. This sucks when you're trying to gather things and aoe them down. Dragons in particular do this. I would just like some variety. Now those bipedal dragons of whose name I can't remember where you don't see the ground positional and you have to watch their movements to see what they're going to do....that I like.

People say shes easy but I like her fight Shiva extreme , how she has attacks kinda coming from all directions , she has stuff falling from the sky you have to worry about, stuff on the ground if you mess up you have to worry about, she has one shot kill abilities. And of course shes on the ground which I like , but fights like her with a good mix of mechanics coming from all directions is nice. A mix of air born attacks ground attacks , one shot kills if party isnt payin attention. To me thats more fun than well you didnt stand in the right spot so off the cliff you go have fun viewing from the bottom haha.

They could take stuff like this and ramp it up more maybe with swimming coming something like a platform on water and you have to swim to get to the boss,and if you stay in to long instant kill are fighting adds under water solo in a certain amount of time to get back to your party it would be nice to add something with water as oppose to your standard platform in the air fall to your death ha.

I want more creative uses of terrain. Have the ground change, perhaps randomly during the fight, or in response to some player reaction to a mechanic, or have certain parts have different effects on players...

... honestly, if they just looked at the creative boss mechanics in WildStar and drew inspiration from there, they couldn't go wrong. xD

Wildstar might have failed as a mmorpg, but it did one thing right and that was raid boss encounters.

And Redmoon Terror, its most recent raid, really stepped it up a notch in terms of really creative boss encounters (as if that were possible... apparently it is!). The Navigation Core is friggin' awesome both in pure concept and in the execution of mechanics.

I'll tell you what I don't want - pass mechanics. This game's server desync and cruddy netcode don't do well with them, and require two players to "hover" in each others' hit boxes for a half second before the line is actually passed, rather than in other games where this is done seamlessly.

I'd like to see more random patterns and less scripting. When players can macro a raid boss's entire ability sequence, this means that difficulty has to be arbitrarily inflated via precision character placement and synchronized movement gimmicks. That said, I love the lore, battle music, and amazing-looking ability animations/graphics of primal content, and I'd love to see the devs do more with them in general.

I'd love to see more interesting and demanding healing mechanics, rather than just burst hp/s checks.

I really like the "random" mechanics like for example shiva where you need to look if she changes to sword or staff :3 so i'd like to see way more of such stuff.
Or a complete random boss which would just throw random mechanics on you and each fight would be unique but i doubt that something like that would come into the game because you could get fights that are easy as hell or if youre unlucky it would be hell , like the boss uses 3 heavy aoe attacks on everyone which you barely survive and then be like , screw you another 2 of those :p

I personally enjoy the unmarked attacks, like the cyclops shared abilities. Learning about a species skills and utilising that knowledge in battle feels incredibly satisfying for me.

I wish there no longer was any markers for anything anymore, as it kind of defeats the purpose of learning a fight. The "RPG" aspect is diminished when it goes from "Avoid the cyclops eyebeams and heavy swings" to "dont stand in orange". While the universal markers (Yellow share this damage, Look away form mob, etc.) are nice, it would be greatly appreciated if less orange floor marks where used. I like to learn what a creature does, and how it fights.

The last boss of stone vigil hard mode is one of my favourite fights because unlike other encounters it actually feels like youre fighting a beast on the loose, as opposed to fighting a scripted encounter. More random, unmarked attacks please.

The mobs should be monsters not machines.

Going further with the random attacks idea i would love actual AI in boss fights. Take the classic cyclops from AV. its attacks seem to be random It has a Frontal beam, frontal cone swing, full 360 swing and a ranged eye beam swing. What if we had bosses that purposely targeted members, like if the party is standing close to it, it wold use more melee swings at the party, and if the members where keeping distance it would attack with the ranged eye cone. This would make fights less about recognizing a pattern and dancing around orange markers and more about making an actual strategy for what to do. I want the world to feel alive with living beasts. but its hard when all we get is a memory game about .
I for one would also like to see less "phases" in the tougher encounters. Right now the obvious phaseshifts are a bit overutilized. Niddy going from Dragon to Estinien is cool and all but having certain points where certain mechanics happen all the time gets old fast.

RNG is a big factor in progression and while i dont advocate fully random encounters i do want less scripted encounters. Using the idea above could be a nice way of spicing up the deep dungeons. If the mobs in there would hunt you donw and try to kill you, unlike now where they just auto-attack and do smaller aoe's at random i'd feel less confident in my skills in it. Being hunted is scary and having a huge cyclops at your heels shooting you down with lazers is perfect for the small corridors that grace the dungeon.


TLDR:
I like random attacks without markers aside from "He lifts his club".

At this point, I just want them to go all-out on the team jump rope design and have a fight where you regularly have to jump at the right time to avoid a death lazor that makes you and everyone near you explode. Heck, design it so you have to line up before the boss and have the camera automatically align to make the analogy even more obvious.

(Note: I don't 'really' want that, it would be latency hell)

I really like unmarked AoEs like Nidhogg's Wings/Tail in EX mode and the like ♡
What I also really like is the "shared fate" mechanic in which you are linked to another player (T11, Ramuh EX) and take DMG when they do/die when they do.
What is also nice is having to slow down/kill adds before they reach someplace specific (A3, A7, etc.).
Oh, and memory-mechanics, like the doors in the Diablos fight and Sophia's links to her body doubles.
For healing, I like the sudden 1 HP mechanics (Weeping City 2nd boss, A11).

In general, mechanic heavy fights are fun :)
I also like it when the pattern is somewhat random (like not knowing which weapon Shiva will use next) but still predictable within said randomness (only certain skills will be used with each weapon).

What I do not like is the AoE that consists of several circle layers that go off one after another (fire in the Midgarsomr fight, earth in Thordan EX). Idk, my brain just can't deal with that, it's so annoying..
Also, doing 3 or more mechanics at the same time. Other than that..hm..
While in general I don't dislike the gaze mechanic, I feel like it is severely overused right now and I'd like to see it take a break for a while, not because it's hard or annoying to deal with but simply because it gets boring when every single boss/add has that mechanic.
For healing, because of the randomized nature of dispell, I hate everything that drops tons of effects on my group members. It's not fun to just keep casting the same skill again and again in the hope to at some point randomly get rid of the one that is the problem instead of the 10 others I'd happy leave on them ^^"

Personally, I like mechanics that punish the player, not the group (obviously, dying is a group DPS loss, but you know what I mean). I get REALLY upset when someone else's mistake causes my death, because it doesn't matter how well I played, and that player will never listen to chat to correct their mistake.

Sweet Hydaelyn, no more platforms to fall off.

I would like more bosses who take indirect damage, Like King Mog EX or the Atomos in WoD, or more complicated and weird bosses like Cerberus, where you have to take a status effect in order to fulfill certain mechanics. I'm getting tired of all these simple dance bosses, whale on the boss, dodge the AOE, stack to mitigate the big attack, rinse repeat till boss is dead. It's kinda bland after the millionth time so I'd much rather some more stuff like King Mog EX and Cerberus!

I want to see more mechanics where pushing too much dps causes a wipe, while also causing a wipe if you don't do enough dps. I like working with dps based enrages. XD

Mechanically, I liked a lot of what Turn 8 did. Tether mechanics that can be passed, "controlling" the tower mechanics (through pushing the activation of them), the Homing Missile mechanic, and Allagan Field <3. The invisible mines I can do without, and I liked the idea of the confusion mechanic but not necessarily on the MT. I did like how it gave the OT a bit more function in the fight though.

The Savage version of Limit Cut is pretty cool in how it's handled too.

OH! Before I forget, Lost City HM's Neuro Squarma! VERY cool mechanic!

Limit Breaks. Design trials with more scripted LB3 occurrences, and not limited to just DPS. For example instead of a bubble barrier mechanic to protect from a boss's mega attack, Tank's LB3 buff replaces that mechanic. Or a Raid-wide Doom debuff that can only be dispelled with Healer LB3. Career tanks/healers would appreciate more of this

I really loved the Second Coil of Bahamut, specifically turn 2 (T7). I never found the fight particularly hard, but it gave a large sense of dread to make sure you're careful to not accidentally hit stoned Renauds, or accidentally pick up a freshly spawned one with AoEs (so many Circle of Scorn accidents). The voice mechanic was easily handled, but made everyone aware they could potentially get the mechanic; the fight actually helped bolster raid awareness more than any other fight I could really think of. One mistake could utterly ruin the run- from the MT still being in Melusine's hitbox circle with voice and giving her stacks to people not paying attention to Shriek and petrifying the entire raid.

Turn 3 of the same Coil (T8) was also immensely fun with the need to balance the environment's mechanics or face a raid wipe. I think A11S vaguely reminded me of this with babysitting towers in the final phase and probably why that's my favorite fight. I'd still like to see something along the lines of Allagan Field or Brain Jack once more.

That being said, I'm glad to see the return of a Blighted Bouquet- like mechanic in A10S (Extreme Caution).

Graphically speaking, I like the fire aoe's from Ravana. I'd like to see more of them.

I never did Savage T8, so are you referring to that, maybe?

Haven't really done much of the older content but have they done something about the icons?
I know Pre 3.1 I think it was or at the very end of 3.0 when fighting the Knights of the Round it introduced a stacking icon that screams "come here!" but before that you'll have fights like Ravana where the icon is white, doesn't really tell the player what it does and is not easily readable. In fact I remember a lot of Pre HW stuff having inconsistent icons, some icons even sharing icons with completely different mechanics attached to them.

Yes, at some point in HW, they decided to streamline the symbols so people don't have to relearn them for every fight.
Since then, they went back and retroactively adjusted the symbols for old content too so they are all the same.

Personally, I think that takes a lot of the fun out of it; since before you went blind into it and had to first figure out what everything did and now it's just "go here, stay where you are, this aoe will spread, look away, gather together" because in every single fight it is the same, lowering the difficulty significantly just through that :/

I agree with you for df content (like the new EX rouelette dungeons, 24 man raid, etc.) but the whole point of savage is to do something hard with a dedicated group of players. I fail to see how making everything easier and predictable for that content is an improvement.

It isn't a bad idea when content is current...but when people outgear content and are helping out lesser gear people it becomes a huge problem if pushing too much DPS becomes a wipe. I am reminded of balancing events in EQ1 where you had to keep stuff within X% of each other where X was generally between 3-5, it was fine when it was new but once we outgeared it we spent most of the time waiting around which isn't exactly engaging

The way we could get round that is let's say you need i400 for the raid, have it item sync at 400 too. So you can't outgear it. That'd get round your issue.

I'll agree with that if the icons and markers are never seen before exclusive ones for that instance but when say a "stack" here icon like in Ravana is reused in the Vault and the player with the icon has to run away from everyone it seems silly. Another example is Concussion in Anti Tower, any healer can get rid of it, the player with the debuff does the same animation as seen in A5? I think it was but in that fight you can't esuna it despite it being the same debuff.

I just want to stop swatting at air or otherwise oversized hitboxes. I'm tired of bosses just feeling like cylindrical punching bags that just periodically damage a target or a target-facing area.
I want them to at least feign some manner of intelligence, and/or have both a hitbox and level of impact befitting its aesthetics.
