This is provocatory.
Do you think we are gonna get a new healer job? Or we only have red mage and samurai?
I would have loved a blue mage healer or a dancer. What do you think about it? Let's talk about the future of healer roles in Stormblood.

I really hope to see a new healer class. I think they learned how to properly implement a new healer after all the Astrologian problems, and a new Healer class can make DF so much easier to deal in the release days...
I sincerely doubt it. We're likely to only see two DPS. If they do deviate from that, I wager the second job is a tank. They still haven't figured out healer (or tank) balance. So I'd rather they focus on that first, personally.
As much as I'd personally like to see Dancer released as a healer, I'd rather S-E not release any future healers until they figure out healer balance and identity. The way they handled AST in the 3.X series has left a bad taste in my mouth and I have little confidence that they know what to do with healer's and I'd rather see if they can work out healer balance and identity in 4.X before they release a new healer.
We most likely will see a new one just to have that checkbox checked but i wish they improved the current 3 instead.
I hope they learned from Astrologian and just improve the toolkit of the existing healers.
With new class, come new max lvl with new skills i guess, personnaly, i'm goin to focus on my SMN and his new tools, then i ll see if the new jobs offers me more sensation than my actual main to maybe swap to it !
I really hope we don't get one.
I mean, seriously. The balance between our existing healers and their identities is so skewed it's a shame. WHM is severely lacking in both raid value and identity, AST is a monstrosity that can somehow heals as good as WHM and SCH while also offering stupidly strong support, and SCH is monopolizing the off healer role and doesn't seem to be budging until a leash is put on their fairy.
I'd much rather them focus on the current healers right now and not just dump a 4th one into this mess.
I really don't know. If RDM was a Tank I'd say you got a chance, but it's looking like Tank and/or DPS only.
The expansion will start with 2 jobs but they might add a third in the coming patches.
An example would be NIN, it was added in 2.4
Team already said realsing 3 new jobs require lots of work and effort. The dev team is actually very small, much smaller than you would expect.
I think SAM is going to be the new tank, and RDM will be the new dps. Square will work on balancing the existing three healers. Also, we don't know if levels 60 - 70 will add new abilities/traits - they probably will, and existing abilities will be simplified and streamlined.
As much i want to see a new healer class, i dont see we will get any. Unlike tank or dps class which has many variation, what kind of healing architect left is there?
WHM is your default go to healer (standard essential core ability)
SCH is your healer that use pet as "secondary" healer
AST is your versatile healer (stance) with added luck based buff (card)
I can only think of shaman/exorcist/onmyodo "sustain" type of healer (wow monk healer) or maybe the "dark healer" archetype from the other thread
Real talk, WHM/SCH is no longer the optimal combo in the 3.4 buff meta (It's AST/SCH). I wouldn't mind another healer where we can have more diversity with the composition, however there are several issues they have to address with White Mage lack of utility and unnecessary potency/cost ratio. Possibly toning down the balance meta with Astro and addressing the other cards we all throw away. Then the white elephant in the room with Scholar that YoshiP is so annoyed to even talk about anymore.
This game doesn't have a healing "meta". Lol the only game mode that would apply to is Savage and there are hardly enough people doing it.
If they don't release a healer, I've been hoping for dancer so much, I probably will drop the game. :(
It's not a healing meta, it's a buff meta. Selfish DPS contribution from MNK and WHM isn't anywhere close to what NIN and AST brings to a raid currently. I don't make the facts up, this what they turned raiding into this tier. But if you are not speed running or care about optimal compositions, it's okay. But from the end-game community that is where it stands.
What he meant regarding that was they were working on FOUR jobs at once..Ninja, MCH, AST and DRK. He said they will most likely never do that again. But 3 jobs is okay, and it also does look like we are getting 3 jobs:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/comme...unity_related/
When talking of anything even remotely balance related, it's almost always in a raid setting.
In dungeons and more casual content, obviously the job you play and what they offer means nothing. In a raid though, there is an extremely strong meta that people cling to for dear life.
I could bet 8/10 groups are running the same DRK/WAR/SCH/AST/NIN/DRG/MCH/Bard(or BLM). It's just so ridiculously optimal and each job plays off eachother so extremely well. There's no room for PLD, WHM or Monk in this buff crazed composition and that's just the truth.
Red Mage and Dancer is all I need! Sadly, we may not be getting a new healer.
The devs have openly said they'll never do another job during a patch again. It caused far too much stress on the team due to all the balancing requirements. Apparently, job development takes nearly a full year, which is probably why the Heavensward jobs were so poorly implemented upon HW's release. My guess is the next expansion will follow with only two additional jobs but instead of two DPS, it'll be a tank and healer.
^agree on that one. To be frank iam fine with just 1 (any) class, i prefer the dev focus on more content like new equip, dungeon, raid, end game stuff, new ability, story, hildibrand, more edda like quest etc any day than a bunch of new class that has 50:50 chance that i will like it or hate it
personally im okay with not having a healer in 4.0... since one out of two new jobs is RDM dps, im hoping second one would be a tank job... mostly because DF has a low number of tanks doing casual content and i'd like to see how one additional tank job would change that
I think there is plenty of potential to see a new healer with the Stormblood expansion. A new healer can fill a new spot as off-healer to compete with SCH and final fantasy is a game known for having a lot of class/job selection options.
Right now, with current balance, WHM and AST are at odds for the main heals spot and SCH has the off-heals spot to itself. Maybe one fix for this "healer balance" issue is to solidify the raid roles more by adding a second off-heals choice to compete with SCH. This would create a new category of healers just like DPS has two categories (ranged and melee) that would put AST vs. WHM and SCH vs. the new healer, instead off all healers competing with each other.
And then we should consider that Final Fantasy has always been a job/class bloated game. The last final fantasy MMO had sixteen advanced jobs and each new incarnation of the series is always adding new jobs. There is no precedence for FFXIV to have less class/job options.
Sadly, I feel like what'd make the playerbase most happy is if they never release a new healer or tank for the rest of the game. So many folks whining that they have to suffer being one of those to play the job they like...
I would hope SE wasn't that oblivious to how adding only 2 DPS to the game would affect queues... >x>()
We'll just to wait for February to see what the Spiderman clue means (if it even is a clue...).
I for once enjoyed AST all through 3.0-3.3 and only the launch of 3.4 made it unbearable for me.
So yeah, I'm all for adding a healer (preferably dancer) with Stormblood :o
You doubt that I'm angry since Heavensward got released because I always was against them releasing a healer that reads like a mere copy of the already existing healers, with one extra that has the potential to break balance completely? Since that was my impression of the job since the beginning, and looks like I'm right.
I wished they were 'at odds'. As it is right now, even a very good WHM will get a lot of preasure to switch to AST because of fucking cards, and because AST has almost exactly the same skills at exactly the same strengh.
I don't think Chloromance is a good idea in this game, either...
I don't think we will see a new healer this time around. They need to adjust the ones we have and get white mage back on track.
Maybe once they get the job roles and combat system re-done, along with a few other things we can see the future of healing jobs.
This, so much. I was completely against them releasing a healer that was a weaker copy of both existing healers while also offering buffs. It was raising every red flag in my book.
Then they started buffing it, and it all went downhill from there. What we have now is what I feared from the start. What everyone on other forums tried to convince me otherwise of.
We have a WHM with cards...
I'd personally be fine with RDM and an additional tank (Samurai mayhaps)? I assume RDM will have some type of healing ability(s), as it always has in previous incarnations.
I really like the idea behind each of the current healing classes we have, but they should be tweaked and balanced more. I do think WHM needs the most attention. It should, without question, be the best healing job in the game, period. AST, as much as I love the job, does need some healing/card buff potency reduction. SCH is the most well rounded (to me at least). Perhaps some small Eos/Selene nerfs?
Even if they said that they prefer to release 2 well done job rather that 3 rushed one. Stormblood got a huge budget increase vs heavensward. More money mean more man power. and at last keynote FFXII director was said to take over the 24 man raid workload.
That make me feel like we can expect 3 job this time also. DPS role is confirm as RDM. For tank, DRK and PLD are your usual main tank and there is no current alternative for WAR. So we can expect a high dps off tank from the SAM.
As for healer, WHM and AST are your usual main healer and the SCH is the auto include off healer. SE need an alternative here to balance thing out. the hardest thing will be to find a theme for a healer class other than WHM in FF title. AST came out of nowhere (no T-shirt) and the spiderman t-shirt scream double job. Director joke to point to Sam Raimi and Yoshida comment that it might also point to the original story of the super hero. Peter Parker got its power from being bitten by a spider... Blue Mage get there power from experiencing said monster power.
Since there was quite some thinking outside the box for RDM as a white and black magic user, the same could apply to Blue mage. Gau in FFVI learned monster ability by studying them, Qinoa from FFIX by eating them. In FFXIV we learn our skill via questing. There is a lot of beast tribe that could teach us monster skill.
Blue Mage feel more like a dps job at first. But there is a lot of healing / buffing monster skill.
Aoe heal : Healing wind, healing breeze, white wind
Single target heal : wild carrot, magic fruit
Def buff: Mighty guard, iron skin, cocoon
misc buff: auto life, refuel (haste)
dispel effect: Geist wall
Add 1-3 DoT skill, 1-2 AoE dmg skill and 1-2 direct dmg skill from all offensive blue mage skill and you pretty much get your standard FFXIV healer out of a blue mage. Add class specific mechanic tie to taking(or dealing) damage (maybe a buff to substitute a party member for a short time) that allow you to cast heal/shield while dealing damage, and you can get a nice alternative to the SCH that can heal and dps at the same time.
I just want shaman/miko/onmyoji aesthetic healing class
Which i have feeling we will get one once we reach the expansion where we go to yugiri country
