If I'm the sole DPS in a PotD run with 3 Healers, if you don't use Cleric Stance, I'm not going to attack anything.
But I'm a healer, not a DPS. I HEAL!!!!!11!!1!1
Also what is Cleric Stance.
i'm more surprised that you managed to land a team with three healers than that they weren't dpsing, tbh
I get this all the time! I run potd as a healer and I'll end up with another healer who never dps's or even touches cleric. Then come boss room they will say they can't lust or something because they are healing... Umm like friend we have two healers and half the time I was healing and dpsing. Seriously makes me so angry; like I understand only healing if you have a tank that is pull happy in the group or something but most the time you need to dps no matter what class you are on!
haha, i am myself not so big into dpsing, but in palace, yeah... i do palace as tank all the time, and one time, i had 2 healers. one of them was overhealing me the whole time. he was just mindlessly spamming cure 1 on gcd... the other healer was dpsing. and then our bard stepped into a trap. the dpsing healer had to stop dpsing, dispell and heal the bard, while the other healer was still spamming cure 1 on me... so i kicked that healer xD
Healing only healers are rarely the most reactive and attentive.. The "it's safer" excuse is bs especially in PotD below lvl 100..
See I have no problem going straight dps on my healer if the other healer wants to heal but if I'm stance jumping and still healing more than that healer then what's the point? I shouldn't be faster stance jumping than they are straight healing when we are both lets say whm. It just doesn't make sense. If that is happening I usually try and kick because by that point the group is carrying them.
I always ask heal only healers if the paint is dry yet. They usually "huh?" Well I mean you're literally staring at the wall for more than half the run...
There's one issue I can see & that's people who are on ACN/SCH or AST & either haven't levelled CNJ or don't have Cleric Stance cross classed. It's unforgivable in my opinion but then again I'm a DPS SCH so healing is my secondary function. It's one if the perils of being able to reach lvl60 in PoTD with a class you know nothing about & might never have even used outside it.
In PoTD my fairy does the healing except when someone doesn't pay attention & gets into the danger zone, then I step in. XD
Cleric Stance, Protect and Swiftcast are the only mandatory cross class skills, so I can't fathom why a Scholar wouldn't have at least the first two (which are required to even be able to become a Scholar). Astro, sure, maybe they don't know. But this was a party of three White Mages that did absolutely nothing to contribute.
A little off topic, but coming across a SCH without Protect wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary. In raid scenarios, a SCH may want to prioritise Blizzard II > Protect (providing co-healer has it) depending on the fight. And we might not always remember to switch out abilities back and forth all the time. :'D
I've had two Bards refuse to use Foe Requiem for me because they thought my damage scaled off Piety. Really.
I agree but I've seen SMN that only use Ifrit (in Sic, naturally) because they don't even *know* that others are available. PoTD is literally the dregs of the FFXIV world at times because of the way it is possible to have levelled all your classes to 60 but have only done the initial lvl0-30 job quests to get the job stone.
Ahaha, no. No.

It is equally annoying as a healer to run PotD with other healers that refuse to do anything..then again this could all be brought up and over to the general forums because I'm noticing not just healers but lots of people doing things to ruin the runs.
I'll get DPS / Tanks and healers who will stop at the teleporter and just sit there, while everyone else runs to see what is in other rooms and unlock chests.
The healer one is annoying because you want to establish who is going to be the primary healer in case things hit the fan, then I know who is supposed to be keeping the others alive while the other is doing the damage to lessen the mobs and get us out of the dirty situation, but no one responds or cares. Or sometimes they won't heal at all, and I have to toggle for some people depending on the situation while they just stand there. I don't mind it in the sense that it's my job to stance dance but when you're the other healer, standing there watching things go down and doing nothing or if anything a small heal once or twice, it's annoying.
I've actually found sometimes healers dps-ing is a necessity to even complete the floors. Last night I had a 6k HP MRD (yes, MRD) and 7k HP NIN on floors 61-70. Both myself as a WHM and the AST had around 9k HP. No aggro was held, multiple NIN and MRD deaths, many uses of witching pomanders (thank god for those) - we finally completed it, but both the AST and I were the top of the dps charts. I think the minimum requirement for aetherial level needs to be higher for 51+ and also job stones absolutely required...
I'm sure that all of the BLMs who camp in Umbral Stance, the never-singing BRDs, and the Always-Sic SMNs, among others, are pleased to hear this.
Healing-only healers and their apologists: still trying to make it sound okay to play lazily and expect that everyone else will feel like pressing buttons.
Sure. But that doesn't mean you aren't annoying people and making thinngs more difficult than they need to be. And people are going to call you on playing inefficiently and bringing the team down. "I play how I want" isn't a defense in this situation as this is a team game.
I do find the "Healer should still DPS" argument to be slightly selfish in a way.
Should they contribute? Absolutely, I do not dispute that one bit.
However, the first priority, and truthfully the ONLY priority of a healer is to HEAL. Anything beyond that is extra support, which most that I've seen tend to do anyway. It is especially irksome when someone in your party TELLS me to DPS (I always do just FYI). Like, no--my job is to HEAL you and keep you healthy/buffed/etc. That's the fastest way to make a Healer laugh at your eventual demise.
I've let many a DPS RIP because they wanted me to do their assigned job. Bye Felicia.
lol, not when theres 3 healers. Between surely 2 of you the healing requirement is sufficient. And especially LOL for reveling in mediocrity. And if you think that withholding healing is the way to project your power, let me introduce you to my vote-kick button, it gets results fast. Don't even attempt to pull your prima-donna "healers are in need" attitude because theres more of you than you think.
This fiction that DPS is really only the job of the dedicated DPS Role really ought to stop; it helps no one, and at worst it attempts to justify "personal playstyle choices" that may make one player happy at the expense of their entire party.
Besides, this is ridiculous if you break it down. I know that you said that you DPS as needed, but consider the logical conclusion of this line of reasoning:
Healer: *watches party play the game*
Tank: "I'm doing fine here, feel free to help push things along."
Healer: "My job is to keep you healthy/buffed/etc."
DPS: "The whole party looks pretty healthy.... Wait -- are you just waiting for us to mess up so that you have something to do?"
Healer: "...yes."
Hold up on that...if the party is fine, then yes I'd definitely be doing DPS.
I'm talking about when they TELL me that I need to DPS when I don't think it's the appropriate time. That's what I mean--not standing around just doing a Harvest Dance or something.
Although admittedly if that actual conversation took place, my reply would be "Indeed--that's what I'm here for. You're here to get the DPS. I'm here primarily to heal and DPS when I see fit. Now, go DPS. ;)"
To be absolutely fair, I have seen this happen when someone is impatient with a comparatively undergeared and inexperienced healer and doesn't realize that their hands are genuinely full.
Most of the time, yes, it's the obviously idle healer who gets shade thrown at them.
While I appreciate that some instances can be annoying, I see alot of posts here just moaning about other people and how other people like to play their game. Does a social, multiplayer game, that has different people on it, actually suit you people or would a game with robotic npcs suit you better that always play the same way, YOUR WAY. In life there are always people that do things differently to how you would like them too, if your are always going to rage every time someone doesnt do things the way you think they should then your in for a lifetime of self perpuating rages. Instead I really do think the game would be a happier environment if people were more tolerent of how people want to play. I pay for my subscription the same as anyone else I object to anyone telling me how to enjoy myself. I f I was kicked out of an instance for not playing someone else's way then they would be reported.
I'm sorry but no.
If, for example, someone is running MCH and they never use Reload because "that's how I play" then I'm going to call them out on it.
If, for example, a healer sits in CS all day and never DPSes and only heals because "that's how I play" then I'm going to call them out on it.
If, for example, a PLD Spams Shield Lob on enemies and wears DEX equipment because "that's how I play" then I'm going to call them on it.
If, for example, a BLM spams only Ice Magic and uses Blizz2 without moving to enemies because "that's how I play" then I'm going to call them on it.
This is a team game, and a game where every class has a set of skills that work, mostly, well together. And being lazy or wanting to be "different" doesn't make you immune to being called on your bad DPS, your bad decisions and your bad choices.
This is not about someone not being a team player this is more about someone maybe believing they are there to heal, because they are a healer and despite people only valuing dps, the game does still need healers. And some dont even know how to stance dance, they may be still learning the game. Your view does not allow for this.
