Seriously, it is so much fun. I don't know how hard it would be to implement it into an MMO format, but I enjoy it way more than the click-fest that is in FFXIV. Make it happ'n cap'n. Can I -please look forward to it-?

1. You're assuming everyone here has played XV and we know what you're talking about.
2. How about letting the game be playable for at least a month before hopping on a bandwagon.

As a fisher in this game...NO
It reminded me a lot of the fishing system in ffxi which was horrendous. I likely will be doing very little fishing in xv just like i did none in xi, because it's annoying
I haven't played cute boi's in a car yet... I dunno how the fishing is.
But no the fishing in ffxiv is fine.
XV Fishing:
It starts with choosing a spot in the water in front of you to cast your line towards (based on some mini-map indicators of where the fish are). Then you just have to hope a fish will actually bite. Sometimes they're interested right away. Sometimes you can get them interested by tapping R2 (the reel in button) a few times to make your lure bob enticingly. And sometimes it's just not going to happen, and all you can do is try casting again.
If a fish does bite, you move into the reeling in mini-game. R2 reels the fish in (and there's a progress bar showing how far you are into that), but you can't keep reeling in continuously, because that causes too much tension on the line. To keep tension to a minimum, you have to mostly follow the direction the fish is pulling. Mostly that means pressing right or left according to on-screen prompts. You need to balance enough reeling in to eventually land the fish, with enough time not reeling in and just following the fish's direction to ease the tension. (Since you have to reel in at some point, there will always be some tension created and that depletes your line's durability.) When the fish jumps, you have to press either right, left, up, or down (as prompted) or else the line will break and you'll lose the fish, your line, and your lure. Or if the tension in the line wears down the line's durability to zero, that also results in losing the fish, your line, and your lure. But if you manage to reel it all the way in before wearing out your line in the process, then you get a fish.
Small, easy fish can be reeled in pretty quickly and with very little tension created by doing so. Bigger, tougher fish need a lot more reeling in before you can land them, and at the same time, create a lot more tension on the line while doing so. A simple (1000 point durability) line may not be able to handle them, so there's multiple different grades of fishing line to handle harder fish. There are also different lures for different types of fish, but you're never guaranteed that the fish that bites will be the type you want (the right lure, location, and time of day only ensures that it's possible), so sometimes (make that "usually" if the fish is at all rare) you do the whole mini game just to land something pretty useless. (The only consolation is that a lot of the useless fish are easy ones.)
So my opinion on it:
It was pretty fun at first, when I was still excited by "oh cool, I caught something", but once I moved onto quests where I'm trying to catch specific fish, it starts getting more frustrating than fun. (Could have been better if we got higher value food or trade goods rewards on the fish that weren't the ones we wanted for quests.)
No thanks, fishing in FFXV is the sole reason I don't have a platinum trophy yet, it's horrid.
XV fishing actually feels like real fishing which is why people who play XIV will be put off by it. The XIV system is basically Animal Crossing's fishing system (a game mainly marketed toward children who have a lot of free time on their hands), except you can change bait in XIV.
All the DoH jobs remind me of this, basically: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m7GAtSIy4-w
No. Way too much work and resources used. I can catch 5 or more fish in ffxiv than it takes to catch 1 fish in ffxv
Personally I enjoy the fishing in XV over XIV just because it is more engaging. Perhaps they could re-tool it to a mini-game in gold saucer though?
Fishing in XV is super good (although trying to find the bait that works while your crew backseat heckling is a huge pain since the game is terribad telling you what lures work with what fish... most of the the fish marked on the lure outright ignore it).
Once you get the fish to bite though it's fun, reminds me of fishing in Zelda OoT. I think the main problem would be that it takes too long for each fish and is too action-gamey (i.e. client-side or server-side? if all client-side it's just going to get botted, if it's all server-sided it's not feasible with lag). It'd be nice at least for Big Fish to have a skill component rather than 90% static fail rate.
Too much effort
It's gotta stay brain dead in here
By the way, seeing as no one posted a video of fishing gameplay.... here we go. Might do a bit better to see it than just read.
FF15 Fishing
I like the system on ff xv but on FF xiv it will give something more to pay i think :/ buy a fishing wire when it break.
To some people that hop over to this game, XIV is the only title in existence and fan service or features from other FF games sends them into blind rage because they're not familiar with it and they'll use excuses like "Let XIV be its own thing" despite how fan oriented this game is
bring up FFXI in particular if you really want to make people's teeth grind, this forum hates that game or atleast 95% of the forum
Let's Implement something that breaks Fishing even more so since 3.3!
Heck no, really, ... No...
I don't want to take 30-40 Seconds for a Mini-Reel In Game just to get Pteranodons for Aetherial Reduction or Illuminati Perches for Blue Scrips...
Absolutely no, it may sound Fun for the first 10 Times and after that it becomes a Pain if you need hundreds of Fish ...
Let alone the Fact, Fisher got screwed in 3.3 due of Miner/Botanist having the Option to get Ice/Water Clusters with ease ....
no, as a long time fisher, its fine the way it is. This is FFXIV not FFXV
You cannot introduce a new fishing system when the game is this far in and not expect a backlash.
Well i like it in FFXV, so why not a mini game in Gold Saucer ?
And this is why we need it here! it also looks alot like modern/slightly altered version of BoF3 fishing minigame where you need to reel and tap to get "tech" points so fish bites. Dunno but everytime there is fishing in a RPG i go nuts with it sadly XIV fishing is almost boring as it was in WoW, currently getting my fishing fixes in Stardew Valley.
Fishing in FFXIV and FFXV are both boring, to me at least
Baaad idea! Then Miner and Botanist need changes to! And how to do that? lol
Rather see a Gold Saucer expanded mini-game as suggested and finally add in the long requested Fishing Tournament many have asked for.
Yoshi has stated many times why fishing is the way it is.
Personally, the current value of fish overall in this game isn't worth additional steps and time catching them.
I'd be up for the mini game idea
I liked the fishing in XV so would be cool to see a mini game in GS.
When you fish in FFXIV you fish in bulk. If you're after useful fish, you want stacks of them. If you're after rare fish, you're still fishing in bulk because it usually takes a lot of attempts before you land the big one.
When you fish in FFXV, unless you're fishing for AP, you are generally only after a few fish. If you're after materials, you probably aren't going to bother to fish up a full stack of them. If you're after rare fish, most likely you aren't going to catch any other fish at all, except possibly by accident.
That's the reason the FFXV system (debatably) works in FFXV, but would not work in FFXIV. Fishers need to supply thousands of other players with materials for foods, desynthesis and so on. They need to catch dozens, even HUNDREDS of fish in a single sitting. This demands that the fishing process be simple and highly reliable. Press the button, get a fish, press the button, get a fish, repeat.
In FFXV, it's not really even possible to catch a hundred fish in a single sitting. The supply of fish in a given fishing hole will be exhausted after twenty or so catches. It's not part of the intent of that game to catch hundreds of fish at a time, as it is in FFXIV. Because the number of fish you catch is much, much smaller, it's possible to add a minigame to spice up the fishing process and add a significant amount of risk to the catch process.
In order for fish to actually be useful in a MMO like this one, they have to be simple and easy to catch. The system as it stands provides exactly that, and is unlikely to change.
Except that the value of fish would automatically rise in response ._.'
Unless, of course, more people would start fishing because of the change to compensate.
Personally, I don't find crafting and gathering as a whole really add much to the game in their current iteration - unlike battle content, they can't exist for their own sake and are primarily used as "money makers" since few people enjoy them and the goods are comparatively rare as a result, allowing for higher profit leverage.
It could stand a few reforms. But I doubt changing fishing in isolation is going to do much good - You're only reducing the amount of fish while the demand for it and its derivatives stays the same.
A well put explanation. Reminds me of Nier, surprised no one's brought it up, which also has battle music of all things when you get a bite. Different purposes, and difficulty is scaled for the single player experience. And Taro wants you to suffer.

I'd prefer it as a mini game attraction, similar to The Finer Miner and Out on A Limb. While the fishing mini-game is fun, in my opinion, it's not really suited for grinding like what you encounter in MMOs.
Ummm no thank you lol took me 9mins alone just to reel in the fish from the quest " a liege in the lake" so can you imagine the really rare fish in 14 how long it would take lmao
