Arcanist and musketeer are the next classes to come out. Just a thought on where the THM drains and dark magic went.

The makings of Arcanist have been semi-well known since information came with the Alpha DATs. Though it's all up in the air, post-December-'10.
Weapon:
Single handed or Two-Handed
Magic Type:
Arcance (Umbral Base)
Basic Attack
Magic Missile (Damage Type Varies with Equipped Armament)
Role in Battle:
Support role; works with light attacks and creating/enabling "Distaffs," probably AoE locations on the field that either negatively effect enemies that wander into range, or benefit allies standing near them. The number of Distaffs that can be up at once, and their duration, are limited and variable. The creation and animation of distaffs are strategic; unlike the magic of Arcance, they do not require battle resources such as TP or MP.
Storyline
Customs agents for Limsa Lominsa.
Mystic will likely be similar in role, different in function,, but from the Astral angle.
Aye; this one's up in the air. Still, Yoshida-san has mostly stuck to adjusting game-play MECHANICS, the basics are overall the same (though simplified and differently organized). I wouldn't be surprised if Arcanist remains the way it looked like it would be in Alpha, but comes out more simplified and polished than it would have otherwise.
Updated my first post to completion, btw.
i didn't read like any of the post sorry, but i just want to just say. :)
yaay to repackaging all the spells if they do this, hopefully they just adding them again to same classes just later when they raise caps? on top of other new ones of course.
Just to point something out, I don't think we'll be seeing Musketeer for a while longer. Yoshida said they want to add more caster classes, and while Arcanist fits the bill, I don't think he means just one caster job.
I would absolutely love Time Mage. I absolutely hate playing as mages and I love Paladin with all my heart, but I would make Time Mage my main without hesitation.
Spells: Haste, Hastega, Slow, Slowga, Bind, Bindga, Stop, Stopga, Stun, Stunga, Break, Breakga, Demi, Gravija, Gravity
Abilities:
Time Stretch: Sets the remaining duration of buff timers on all party members to max.
Time Strain: Sets the remaining duration of status effects on the target to max.
Time Compression: Remove three buffs from yourself. Inflicts all enemies with Slow, Gravity and Bind. Deals Gravity damage.
Weren't those DATs fake anyway? I seem to remember someone stating they weren't real but, I don't know that was awhile ago. o_o'
Placeholders, not fake.
To a degree - the names of a lot of things in the DATs are tentative, and they're easily distinguished from active in-game mechanics by either the kanji for tentative, or a single period BEFORE the name. For instance, in the DATs for a while, you'd see "Siphon MP II" right next to ".Aspir II" -- one being legit, one being a planned change (or abandoned one.)
The Arcanist mechanics and abilities will likely remain as the DATs have them, but the names will change. That said, I think Magic Missile should be a permanent name - because that was one of the funniest Dr. Demento skits of all time.
cuz i keep track of every interview and put every link on a massive notepad.
you really never read about beast master and summoner?
well google didnt help out, idk, it was in like two or three interviews when asked about pet classes. they mentioned both summoner and beast master more than once.
Quote:
Gamer Escape: There was a tame ability mentioned as well, so does that mean Beastmaster as well?
Yoshida: Yes. The foundation or system for using pets in battle is currently being made. So yes in the future there will be a beast tamer type of class. Again, it’s all about that adding one class means adding more jobs and all these extra things. So all these jobs won’t come at the same time. It’s all about the priorities, but it is on the list and we are making preparations for it.
Like one idea could be for example maybe having a beast tamer class and that job would be like a summoner type of job.
HAAAA found it!
oh and this

The talk that’s going about saying that Arcanist and Musketeer are going to be next… those might not necessarily be the ones that are next.

OH PLEASE DEAR GOD NO. NO NO NO NONO!
That's not so ridiculous IMHO. You learn to summon and control field monsters... and then when you get really good at it, you stumble across a quest in which you summon and control your first MYTHICAL monster - and go from there.
It would certainly give the main pet class more options; it'd be able to choose whether it wanted to rely on HP/TP or MP, for one.
It would also leave the door open for Ranger to, instead of summoning and controlling multiple pets, have ONE pet (possibly chosen from multiple options) that grew with the player. It's all about where to spread it thinner and where to keep it thick.
Logic tells me that Red Mage is the next job coming, being a big FF staple and considering the lack of mages and debuffing (Thief is prolly the next after RDM). It might not branch from the Arcanist class however, we'll see.
Oh and I already imagine people complaining about Arcanist with the current server lag if it really involves mob and player placement. They might wait for 2.0.
I see Arcanist dealing more with the Time Mage than the Red Mage but only because Red Mage is always defined as a magic using warrior (sword/rapier in hand). However for the next class to be added Yoshi already said he wanted a pet class to make the first appearance. Development is already well underway for Summoner he stated.
Now one gripe I have about Arcanist is everyone on the forums calling it Arcanimist... why do they do that!? D:
Didn't Yoshida say a while back that Arcanist would turn into Geomancer? I remember him saying something that they were planning on that, but that idea could have changed drastically by now.
I don't care what class/job we get after 1.21, I just hope it doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time. The game needs more classes to go with, otherwise people are going to start getting bored once all of the only 7 classes are capped. I'd like it to be a caster, but with the statement that enfeebs/dot's are gone until after 2.0, I don't even know what to think it would be other than perhaps summoner.
