Umbrite post next patch...

*shakes out his piggy bank* You can have it all just please....please let me get umbrite in more than just one way when you release the next relic step.

I'd love to gear up my other classes but i can't when i have to jam it all into the Umbrite fund. Ive put like 5 lala's through college at this point in tomes alone!!

Im all for Relic toughness but after 2 to 3 steps of endless tome grinding...*cry*...

they'll ease the aether oil step with 3.45. Umbrites are probably coming with 3.5

I don't think that's really possible. Sure they could make the Lore-bought ones cheaper, but that hardly seems necessary with how you get one as a reward for doing Crystal Tower weekly.

at least with the oils you knew you were done in so many weeks AND had the option to buy them (for a crap ton i know but still). Umbrite you have one option period. Even with dailies your casually getting 2 to 3 a day at best. My point being that if they can do that with the oil....they could add in another place/way to get umbrite. It just feels weird they give you like 10 different ways to get the sands and then added one for umbrite, went to lunch and forgot to do more.

wondrous tails guarantees that people run the old 24 raids. Theres no necessity for aether oil from those anymore.

I'm confident that they will lower the needed amount to 1 or 2 and decrease the required lore points

Wondrous Tails guarantees squat. If I don't want to run an instance in the book I don't, there's 15 others plus the chance to swap with something more pleasant, like 1-49 Dungeons solo. Crystal Tower is a pain & most people only run it if essential.

The grind is needed any way you look at it. Unless they do another skip version I don't think it will be going down any time soon.

Im more then well aware at this point that grinding is a thing thank you. I think we are all ever so ecstatic about tome grinding for over 3 parts of the relic

The problem here is that this whole tomestone system needed in every relic step makes it extremely hard to gear up multiple jobs. Almost everything you do from gear to weapons to relics require the same currency. You are mostly forced to gear up 1 maybe 2 jobs per patch then wait months till stuff gets nerfed to get items for your other jobs when they serve as nothing more than glamours.

I can dig the whole gated content behind artificial limits by using tomestones to force people to stay subscribed and not grinding their arses off for 1 month then wait till the next patch ... BUT they should make stuff like the relic questline done via questing ONLY and limit the number of times the quest can be done each week. When they decide to nerf the step they can just remove the weekly limit.

Theres absolutely no reason to use tomestones for relic quests.

New patch, new step, and...no easing on the Umbrite Grind, nor any other ways to obtain it. It's kind of ridiculous when you think about it. You need at worst 80 Umbrite for the 230->240 Step. The only way to get it is 300 Lore a shot, working out to 24000 Lore. Meanwhile the new step is a greater leap from 240-260, yet has a pair of repeatable quests that let you earn its item, 17 a week. Then you can buy more tokens with Lore, but they're half the price of Umbrite! So given a time period of 2 weeks, that's 34 tokens from the quests, leaving 16 to be bought with Lore, at a cost of 2400. 1/10th the cost of the previous step, if you want to spend it at all.

Maybe it's just because the 230->240 Step features stat allocation that they make it such a Lore Grind, but I really don't see any good reason they couldn't include other means of getting Umbrite by now.

Pretty much what im driving at is exactly what DukeGr and ZhaneX have said.
I'm very sad to see that with an addition of yet another step to relic (woo hoo new relic is a good thing) but they haven't adjusted an odd part of the relic step. Only one way to get Umbrite (yet the sands you can do like12 things...like you need that many so badly)

I have been through every relic step from old to new and i know we have all felt the pain of grind. Im happier to say the atma stuff has seemed....kinder? (accept the unidentified items pre nerf) but a lot of those steps gave you multiple ways to get the items. From beast tribes to tomes to even random chests. Umbrite is a big ol frowny face. If they wanted to leave it just the one way for now they could at least make it have a chance to bonus from the very first one or up how many points you get per turn in by now. Don't get me wrong though i realize this is one complaint of many along the path to Relics :)

I really don't understand why people can go from i240 to i260 in effectively one day or two (if you grind) yet I'm still working on getting from i230 to i240. The Lore grind for Umbrites is crazy & I have no idea why it was set at 300 tomes, rather than 200. It definitely should have been reduced in this patch.

I hear so many people saying that tomes drop from the sky but in my experience that's just not true unless you have no life &/or have a Light Party static that don't have to face DF queues.

I have near instant tank queues for most roulettes I queue for, and I still haven't gotten even halfway through this part of the quest.

It's just too much. Either two (rewarded) runs of the Expert Roulette, or two runs of ARF will only give me enough for one umbrite. That's a good hour, for one item, which I'm going to need 60 of. And although people say that the sands are easy, I can't see any that you can really grind without sinking even more hours than you'd need for the Umbrites. And on top of that, I have no idea how to allocate my stats, because people just give me vague answers, instead of some hard numbers to aim for, so I don't even see it as being a good weapon when I get to the end of it.

Getting sharpened weapons isn't a sign of skill at the game, it's a sign that you had the patience to mindlessly grind out the hyperconductive equivalent weapon.

Just like (almost) everyone else, Crit, Det, and then whatever else you want forthose last few points.

As far as Umbrites are concerned, run ALL the DR's that give Lore. Expert, 60, 50 (when on a level 60 class/job), Leveling, Trials. Throw in Mentor and Frontlines if you want to as well. You'll get enough Lore to get 3-4 of the things per day, depending upon which dungeon you get on the 60 DR, and what fight you get on the Trials DR.

Sand? I found those to be the easier of the two, because I've got 60 for all crafters and gatherers. I could simply get Blue Tokens and hand them in. For those lacking that option, there is always the "burn through 100 Leves" option. I'm sure if you looked around you'll find exactly what I mean by that.

Don't get me wrong, its a slog, but its not nearly as bad as you make it out to be.

I would not recommend that: ARF gives 150 lore, leveling roulette only 100. It's typically not worth it unless you get a primal. 50s can be worth it, if you're swift, Trial and Expert are worth it as well. Frontlines is extremely time inefficient.

The reason I recommend it is not efficiency. The reason I recommend it is variety. Its not worth finishing the umbrite grind as fast as possible by grinding ARF thirty times a day, the sanity cost is too high. Running the various DR's brings in a lot of variety. Sure, you've done those fights/dungeons many times before, but at least getting a different dungeon keeps the grind from getting too boring. Run ARF too many times afterward if you want, but get that variety in to try to preclude burnout.

If you aren't going for efficiency, you can also throw Feast, Hunts, Raids and PotD in there :P

Expert, Trial and 50s roulette have a similar tome/time efficiency as Aethero/60s, so if you only have a limited amount of time, they are good equivalent options for variety without hurting your efficiency. Leveling and Frontline are plain worse (unless you get a primal for leveling). Hence, I wouldn't recommend them for farming.

Im about 75% done with the quest now after...heck i dont know how long...i feel like ive been working on nothing but this relic step for months and my alt classes are suffering for gear because of it. (im slowly replacing gear from dungeons)

I'm still really irked that the 2nd half has the chance to give you up to +6 but since its good ol RNG ive had it bonus exactly once.

Ok to be fair im still irked about the whole thing so i really hope the next patch corrects this. No one should have to grind nothing but tomes for so long. Its so uninteresting. The sands are actually kind of cool that you can turn in or do like 10 different things. But again not umbrite :P

There are a bunch of ways to get tomes for umbrite but the amount you need dwarfs what you can get done in a day before you go crazy. I think when it came out it was....okish since you had lots to do story wise, new people running things and you getting extra tomes....but now its just stagnant.

The umbrite step is worse than I remember. It feels like you put in a lot of time and effort to get a tiny, almost zero amount of progress because it wants such an insane amount of tomes. And the amount of tomes is the same each time you repeat the quest. I don't think these type of multi-week grinds should make you spend 100% the same amount of time on repeats when you go back to do other weapons. There isn't enough content to last through getting hundreds of thousands of tomestones; it is too many hundreds of repeat runs of the same dungeons to upgrade multiple anima weapons. And if we aren't supposed to collect and upgrade many weapons then why is it repeatable and giving unique achievements for every upgrade of every weapon.

Just do what I do: dump excess tomes you accumulate over time into it. I don't bother buying the lore mats, I just dump lore straight into umbrite. I've got a good 30 sitting on a retainer at the moment and it's already at about 81 progress.

Considering Umbrites are more or less equal to Alexandrites, we'll probably get a Daily quest next patch for a map or something.

There is rarely any excess when it comes to Lore tomes (unlike poetics but then i turn those into a quick sands when i end up with 500)

As for the step before umbrite...yes i would suggest you just save them for umbrite vs the oil's but its going to be a far cry from the 24000 lore your going to need :P
