Is the Nintendo Switch more powerful than the PS4?
LINK TO THE NEW NINTENDO SWITCH
looks like it running skyrim HD so i'm assuming it's just as powerful
I wouldn't mind being able to take the game on the go.
Hopefully it's easy to port titles to this new system because Wii U was a disaster for third developers. I love Nintendo but this is the last chance I'm giving them to make a system on par with Microsoft & Sony.
Switch is 1 Nvidia teraflops, PS4 is 1.8 teraflops. It's weaker, it's a handheld. It also has less RAM, and it's MUCH slower.
Based on the specs Nvidia gave (https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/1...ntendo-switch/ it seems like it's power is comparable to Xbox One. So FFXIV could run fine on it, but I don't know if it would have any limitations beyond anything graphical.
I will just say, off just glancing at it, FFXIV could be a possibility. It is more about if the Switch sells well, if the team can handle it's infrastructure, and if Nintendo will allow cross play.
The big thing that would need to be looked at over graphics is how good the internet capabilities of the handheld are (naturally it will have them, but are they good enough to support an MMO?). We need to look at the switch as its minimum viable product, which is a handheld, and speculate whether or not it is a viable platform for the game. Then again... the trailer showed off handheld splatoon, so who knows.
Other than that, storage capabilities of a handheld are another big issue, with 4.0 coming out, who knows how big this game will be (probably 30GB+ and rising).
The console is sooooo small.
I don't think that will be more powerful than PS4.
I don't want another low-end console limiting the game. o.o
It is speculation based of other's findings, not my own. Everything looks like it was customized specifically for the Nintendo Switch. Plus I said comparable. It can be in the lesser or better range depending on how well people can push the hardware to it's limits.
Specs of the Nintendo Switch, it could run FFXIV but I'm sure no one wants to deal with "Nintendo Switch limitations" as we just rid of the PS3. Square Enix is a partner for the Switch so it's possible. It also runs on the ARM architecture so porting it over would be a huge effort, unlikely to be worth it.
Oh, I see. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, from my understanding, Tegra processors are notoriously worse than GTX/Radeon graphics cards, and IIRC Xbox one uses a Radeon. That doesn't necessarily mean it's worse, but with the information available, I made that assumption.
It's marketed as a home console that can switch to a handheld. That said, I agree with the rest of what you said.
Could be wrong, but those specs seem pretty bad. Don't they? Also, are those specs confirmed?
They're pretty bad tbh, but I don't know why people expected PS4 performance out of a portable device. As for whether or not they confirmed, well I got them from a friend who got them off another friend from the Nintendo developer portal (requires an account)... can't say it's 100% legitimate, but I trust them both.

According to Switch specs.
Capacity of 4 GB
Bandwidth: 25.6 GB/s
PS4 for comparison
Capacity 8 gigs of RAM
176 GB/s
PS4's RAM is SEVEN times faster. This thing is not even in the same league because it's a handheld.
The graphics chip is pretty weak if those are the actual specs. A GTX1050 (about ~$110card) has 600~700 cores@1354.
Its not more if it runs better or not. It is more about if Nintendo's design allows 3rd party to easily work on it. One of Wii U's faults was it's infrastructure was so arbitrary and hard to program that developers did not want to touch it. Nintendo said they built this in the mind that 3rd party can easily develop on it. They can release a PS4 like title, but it may need to be lower in spec to meet the requirements, but it still has the capability to play PS4/X1 games fine.
Both Dragon Quest XI and the new Sonic 2017 game confirmations help show this.
Hope they don't support it with XIV. I want the limitations being omitted not compounded. The USA is finally starting to get affordable fast internet. Hopefully with PS3 unsupported this game start getting more aggressive in pushing out dope content. Assuming SE keeps updating their server tech as well.
I don't really like GCD. But if it is going to stay here, I would like to see it get faster with resources being the determiner of controlling skill spam.

Let's just say...IF...if FFXIV somehow manages to get ported to this...would anyone use it just for crafting and gathering classes?
I wouldn't pick this console up just to play FFXIV on it, but if I had it already I'd sure as heck use it to grind out some non-combat stuff on the go.
Don't even think about it Producer-san!...
Nintendo has always had the cheapest and weakest consoles in the market, comparatively, we don't want another PS3-like limiter so forget about it!...
That's not a bad idea. XIV also has the added fun of HUD and config files being stored locally. It's not a big issue, but it is a problem when you want to transfer personalization to / from console. I mainly play on PS4 and all of my customization for battle is done there. I also have XIV on my laptop, but conpletely redoing my interface and everything is a serious task, but some minor gameplay functionality (gathering, gardening) will work just fine without reconfiguring everything.
Only if it's not going to be the new low. I'd like our game to be pushed to the fullest PS4 capabilities.
the handheld using Nvidia Tegra processor and the base ueing unknow for now
https://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2016/1...ntendo-switch/
It's basically a portable ps3 so, hope the don't support it.
There's no way FFXIV is coming to a platform like Switch, if anything they are beefing up the minimum system reqs for the next expansion so something like this is very unlikely.
I won't even go into the potential issues of the underwhelming Nintendo Network with all its limitations.
At best this will be a glorified pokemon console, if they don't RIP the 3DS then it will fail even at that.
Im sorry Nintendo but i don't really see the point of making a console like this, they could just as well make an iPad peripheral and release games for the ios and call it a day.
how would you even be able to see bosses on that tiny screen...
I'd rather see it remain for the PS4 and PC only. Think about it - the more consoles/handheld devices FFXIV operates on the longer development will take to get everything ready for content patches.
it doesn't even have HDD
