Passing initial thoughts:

1. Rhalgr reminds me a bit of Ramuh. Old bearded man with the staff thing. Wonder if there might be a connection.

2. Is that Yda? I think that looks like Yda. No neck tattoos but maybe those are fake. I am starting to think that Yda is a political refugee and the tat could be part of her disguise. Who knows.

Welp, so far appearing to be getting the setting, environments and aesthetics-wise, that I was hoping for, although in a different area (was hoping we'd spend one more expansion elsewhere, at the edges of the HW lands, before moving into Ala Mhigo).

A bit hyped.

I wonder who the male was? He's also seen behind the female in the Stormblood artwork. That female does seem like a leader due to the artwork, too.

At 1st I thought it was derplander with a hairstyle + MNK new AF, but he looks abit too muscular and with stronger facial features than the regular cinematic derpander. Could very well be a highlander ... here's hoping they'll expand on CC now that PS3 support will be dropped alongside an increase in PC minimum specs.

There was a fair bit more shown in the Keynote. Things included of a lore variety:

Three story plotpoints:

1. Freeing Ala Mhigo from the Garleans.

2. Dealing with the differing views of the older, pre Garlean, Ala Mhigans and the younger Ala Mhigans that have only ever known Garlean rule.

3. Dealing with the Ala Mhigan resistance.

12th Legion Legatus is our main villain. Zeros Yae Galvas I believe.

Eureka is in.

I'm pretty sure they said something to the effect that it was Derplander b/c MNK is the new focus for 4.0 like 2.0-WAR and 3.0-DRG. I mean it's not that farfetched to gain muscle mass for a human lol. Also it looks very much like him in all his cut-scene iterations just with a new hairstyle and a bit more shaggy around the jawline is all.

So many people speculate it's Yda, but idk... could be someone new, either way it's all a lot to take in so far. I'm still reeling at basically "Scarlet Witch T-shirt=RDM" for the love that is all good and holy!

I just thought that person was the WoL representing them being a MNK this patch. Also he can look different after a while. So far most of the CG trailers shows him getting older over time and more facial hair.

Her fighting style appeared a little different from the guy she's also wearing what appear to be wrist mounted blades. I'm wondering if that will be unique to her or a new type of fist weapon? Or maybe she's a hint at a new class.

I don't know if it's Yda, she didn't have the neck tattoo. Maybe her when she was younger?

I'm so glad that actually is a focus of the story, how the ones who grew up under more than 20 years of Garlean rule would probably not want to change that.


Pretty sure the guy was just Derplander.
Facial features and hair and all were the same, training in a martial arts style place probably has him packing more muscles now^^
The lady...was a dancer. Which will be a melee healer. Go away, I don't care what you have to say, that wasn't a MNK because I don't want it to be one ;-;

Based on the hair and eye color, as well as martial arts moves, I'm heavily inclined to believe the woman in red is Yda.

The male MNK with the blue ki attacks can only be our beloved Derplander, all ready to break Garlean colossi and Ala Mhigan rebel scum (not the good rebels) with his bare hands.

I'm... not sure on much else? Dancer and Red Mage? Maybe? /shrug All else I've seen is a few stills, none of them particularly hinting at the story.

Seems to be using dancer poses, as well as somewhat similar moves... but also retaining some MNK moves so it's uncertain, though I'm leaning more to it being dancer - dear Azeyma I hope it's dancer. Also, she's beautiful.

The place is the new "city state" it seems, makes sense as we can't just use Ala Mhigo itself, what with all them Garleans there.

So far, feeling it way more than HW's trailer which left me with the same feeling I got from HW as a whole (I disliked the trailer in parts and have had little interest in what it shown: same thing I felt with the majority of HW itself).

Yeah, it's the new hamlet called "Rhalgr's Reach", they also showed artworks of it while explaining a bit about it, but I already forgot half of it again already, sorry..xD

So we're going to be opposing both the Garleans and a faction of the Resistance (probably the Masks)? Interesting.

If that is Dancer, and it is a melee healer, that'll be interesting. It's something I've been curious about whether or not they'll implement for some time. It'll be nice to get a hunnie as a cheerleader to keep me going on fights. (Unless it's a dude, cuz I don't swing that way. No disrespect to the people who do.)

The Garlean Legatus is named Zenos Yae Galvus

So he's a member of the royal family

It could be like the special scions that are combos, like how Y'shtola has White Mage/Astrologian skills, maybe Yda will have Monk/Dancer in a similar aspect.

And that male monk is probably derplander, cause he mighty fine. Mmm mmm MMM! *sassy snaps*

Calling it now - the Imperial Gun Works weapon this awesome looking piece of Garlean Royalty uses will not technically be his weapon, but the saya itself. Think Sam from Metal Gear Rising shooting his blade out; only this being more developed in his moveset.

Looking at the trailer closely. It seems like the woman in red is doing a slash motion at the WOL

The Japanese expansion names seem to be themed after colors. Heavensward was Souten no Ishgard, or "Ishgard of Azure Skies," and the Heavens' Ward were known as the Azure Sky Knights. Stormblood is Guren no Liberator (with the kanji Kaihousha given an English reading). "Guren" is a more poetic shade of red, but also the name of a flower, so keeping the pattern would make it "Liberator of the Crimson Lotus." I think we can expect anything with "storm" or "blood" in its English name to come with a totally unexplained lotus motif.

Also, word is that Yoshida dropped the name Eureka in the keynote. That hurts a little, given my current expectation is that they will most likely bend over backwards to make sure it's completely unrelated to any prior FF3-derived content.

Exactly. It's neither MSQ nor raid-related, and thus has no narrative obligations to either (not that I expected the former). Great for new players who want to jump into the new expansion without feeling overwhelmed by past plot points, less great for the abused minority that wants certain unresolved plot threads pulled out of literal temporal stasis.

Gonna say 'Yda' Is a monk for a few reasons, you see her stance change a few times and the stance she uses is crane.

And if it is Yda, shes already a pugilist so it leads that shed be a monk.

Eureka in III was just an optional dungeon with the best gear in the game, it wasn't really tied to the story.
Eureka in XIV is a forgotten place that was hinted at in the last CT cutscene, but wasn't really tied to the story of it.

There weren't really any unresolved plot threads with Eureka, as Nero gave up on CT the moment he tossed that tracking thing away.

Eureka in FFIII was only entered through Syrcus Tower. Entering it in the same manner in FFXIV would be... difficult, and require undoing what the majority of players found to be a perfectly reasonable, if disposable, ending.

HOWEVER

This isn't the place for this discussion (which has been had), but there were (and still are) a mountain of unexplained inconsistencies and contradictions in the lore and otherwise (that people are sick of me talking about, but you can find with a forum search) that also put that "resolution" in a completely different light than what seems to have been intended.

UNFORTUNATELY

The manner in which they've chosen to announce Eureka suggests they've decided to just keep the name, and as Nero seems to have joined the Ironworks in throwing away an entire patch-cycle's worth of character building, CT is looking to simply be the story that FFXIV forgot.

(But really I was hoping you'd figure out from my tone that I don't really want to talk about this. Alas, I was unable to restrain myself.)

Back when they initially talked about Eureka and its absence in the CT storyline, they said it was left out on purpose, and that they wanted to keep that for future content.

While it's being shown as an exploration area similar to Diadem, we don't really know what they have planned for it. Diadem didn't have much of a backstory, because it didn't really have any structure to it. They said they've learned from the Diadem, and Eureka will likely have some structure to it, and with it, the possibility of story going into the place.

I'm sure they'll explain how we get there, and why we're even going there.

I always speculated that he might've been the lost prince of Ala Mhigo, but I never thought that would have come to pass! (assuming it's true) Other than him being a monk and roughly the same age there wasn't much evidence to connect him with Ala Mhigan royalty. Especially since I didn't think they'd involve another job trainer (they still might not) in the MSQ as they did with Estinien, but now ... who knows? I have to say that I am kinda disappointed. I liked his character development in 3.0. I wonder what will happen?

Despite knowing Meracydia was a wasteland, I was always curious as to how much of one and of which kind (was it a glassed state, desert, jungle wasteland etc.)... but also how the Miqo'te dwelled in this wasteland before the Age of Endless Frost in the 5th Umbral Era (?) and were they a contributor to the further decline via harvest, hunting, building and so on thus furthering need to migrate.

If stuff lives there though, then it isn't inhospitable and despite knowing that Allag likely blew most of it to waste - I highly doubt they would have subjugated it without building there and forming some colony.

Do we know why Meracydia is a wasteland?

From the images of the new legate, it's looking like Samurai is more and more likely.

So if they do add 3 Jobs, which would go against what we've been told will happen (if I recall rightly they said never 3 at once again), SAM as the new tank, RDM as the new DPS, and DNC as the new healer?

Maybe not DNC. We haven't gotten any hints to that, and the woman (Yda's sister?) in the trailer looked more like a MNK than a DNC.

This fanfest has been complete garbage thus far... between housing spoiled for 4.0 that, by all rights, was literally stated to be coming in 3.0 as of the /last/ fanfest, to a picture of expanded inventory still showing the max 100 feature currently enabled, to even confusion on the timeline by the very people translating the lore in the first place!

I mean granted, the /almost/ 20 years bit could be seen either way, I mean I'm still curious how long 2.x and 3.x have taken up to this point, aside from the statement of "the period of 2.55 - 3.0 being 2 weeks, storywise" to... yeah 1.x taking all of a year, then ya got the part about ala mhigo falling 15 years before the events of 1.x, then the time skip of 5 years after 1.x to 2.0, so sure, sorry if I'm nitpicking, but it's been a good 21+ years....

Ugh... just really hoping the lore book at least discusses some portion of this.

More bothered by what these folks might deem useless skills given how these are the same folks that keep trying to buff astrologian for balance... yeah... that's fair.

Maybe it's just me but I'm not seeing SAM as a possibility. DNC and RDM (or some other magical fencer type class) sure. But I just don't see SAM working in this yet.

I also still think Yda is lost Ala Mhigan royalty so to speak. Maybe not a direct daughter of the King of Ruin, but a niece or cousin perhaps.

Honestly I've been hoping for the longest time for rdm to be a branch off of an MSK class, along with CRS but... who knows..

I am liking how they took a nod to ps3, and god... I remember even preordering the 1.0 version (yeah, oddly enough) through gamestop, haha, cool story, was actually able to move those funds over to ARR back when it was announced.

If not... good to see the Musketeer class go completely unused from 1.0 for yet another expansion.

I wouldn't be surprised if Musketeer is dead for good. They renamed the Coral Tower aetheryte in Limsa the Marauder's Guild (ignoring the Musketeer's Guild shares the same place) and then there's MCH.
