Think we'll be able to give our squad jobs eventually?

I just got an arcanist on my team and I can't decide if I want to keep her or not. The decision basically comes down to "will I be able to make her a scholar?" If I can eventually upgrade her to a scholar and/or summoner she would be worth keeping for the versatility. If not, then I want another conjurer so I have two healers.

Honestly, I hope not. These are just normal people seeking to join the Grand Company and rise through the ranks under you. I feel it makes more sense for them to stay as classes.

And yet retainers can use Jobs like we can and are no more special than a typical NPC.

I think that was more for gameplay reasons since there are some job only gear that retainers back then could not equip.

Though I do think it would make a lot more sense for squads to eventually get jobs since they are working under the WoL and receiving training. The only jobs that are truly one of a kind would have to SCH since you'll need to get a stone with a fairy; BLM and WHM fall under a similar category. All other jobs are more or less institutionalized or are being spread by it practitioners.

Same to be honest. A lot of jobs have rarity built into their lore.

Pretty much, but there are plenty of people who helped fight and defeat primals, specifically: Titan, Leviathan and especially Ifrit. Though I can't imagine them being low-level GC squad members, though.

The only reason why Retainers were getting Jobs is because we can freely change their appearance at will and having 40-60 or so gearsets locked by them (the Artifact sets, which has 5 variations for 2.0 Jobs and 2 for 3.0 Jobs, as well as the Hell/Werewolf PvP sets for SCH, AST MCH and DRK) gets in the way of that.

In contrast, the Recruits all have preset appearances they we are unable to influence. So At this point I see little reason why our recruits should have Jobs other than for Lore consistency with the retainers.

I actually had this exact same thought earlier! As others have said though, I don't think this will be implemented as it's not really needed. Retainers have access to jobs so they can use job-specific equipment, but since we can't change the equipment of our Squadrons (yet) there's not much need for them to have access to jobs. If Squadrons really can be used in dungeons in future patches I can definitely see them considering whether they should have access to jobs though, otherwise they'd be locked out of a variety of very important skills (Shield Oath, Regen, The Wanderer's Minuet, etc)

Its possible but but there are certain skills used by NPCs thatare unlikely to have Jobs that are counterparts to Class and Job skills (War's being the most common, with Steel Cyclone, Overpower and as of Hull Breaker HM, Fell Cleave and Decimate having variants, as well as two versions of Beserk. Another example is BLM with Fire II, Flare and Freeze analogues. Its likely the Devs will use those instead if they want to avoif Jobs for the squadrons

I hadn't thought about this but I think you're probably right about using analogues rather than the actual ability. I imagine having to develop the Squadrons in a way that each individual unit can have both classes and jobs would probably be very time-consuming as well, so it may be for the best that they do things this way so they can focus on implementing lots of new content for the Squadrons

Well I kept the arcanist for now, if she can't upgrade to scholar later then I can always buy a job change to conjurer when we can take them into dungeons. I hope they do let them get jobs though, Kinda sucks having cnj as the only healer.

Well following the lvl 51 to 60 storyline, we may be able to obtain Jobs for our GC recuits eventually as that part of the story focused more on explaining how normal NPCs are now able to obtain the Jobs as each Jobs open their door to train more recuits now the star student, the WoL, is a Master.

If we are ever allowed to go adventuring with our squadron, I would sincerely hope that we can indeed get them to take on jobs rather than base classes.

On the flip side, the Maelstrom has Broken Mountain and Curious Gorge training their axemen as Warriors and work closely with Doma's ninjas.

The thing is that the 52-60 quests for most jobs are of the "we'll spread this knowledge to others" variety. The WAR questline in particular.

I am hoping for a lot more control over squad member growth, including giving them access to jobs along with controlling their gear appearance. It's clear that they won't let me create my perfect squad (making all the templates I saved in anticipation to this a waste), but I still want some degree of control over what goes on with the squad.

Rarity isn't really an issue for most of the jobs, just a select few and this could easily be solved with a 1 time quest when squad members reach level 30.

E.G. When an arcanist reaches level 30 your lieutenant gives a quest to unlock scholar and summoner for your arcanist. You go to your job quest giver and they then come up with some lore avoiding BS on how you can do it. Like the lala goes to the tonberry and talks to him about teaching Nymian techniques to others. And the Miqo comes up with some way for your squad member to simulate being in the presence of a primal to allow them to take on the summoning ritual.

WAR, PLD, BRD and NIN were all achieved through training so just going to the quest giver and asking them to train your recruit would suffice.

DRG is the same, just your recruit won't be an azure dragoon, just a regular one. While the MNK quest giver last time I saw him was actively recruiting pupils.

WHM is a tricky one as we were an exception and it's usually forbidden for non padjali to be WHMs. But again, go to the quest giver and they can come up with some BS to bypass the rules.
