Has this been mentioned yet in the live letter?
Was not mentioned from what I could see, unless they talk about this in part 2 of the preview, but it seems like they already did a rundown of all new features including small things like being able to buy 3 weekly jumbo cactpot tickets.
For what it's worth, the new caster gear looks nice. Hmmm.
Take this with a grain of salt, but I believe the wondrous tails new thing is going to give the egi glamours....the miqo girl associated with this system is also associated with the wandering carbuncles across the realm AND....they used a minion to cover up the "rewards".....so heres hoping...
Will if they didn't specifically say anything about it I doubt it's ever going to happen, /sigh. So disappoint in how "Summon"er turned out in FFXIV.
Where can I see the new tomb gear?
I prefer to wait and see rather than jump to conclusions because we aren't getting updates every live letter.
When they rework some of the classes they hinted about in 4.0...I know they wont, but I wish they would rework summoner. Instead of making him a DoT class (with btw, a pet)...make his rotations based entirely off the summon itself.
But alas...
I don't think that's very likely. That content is for all players, not just SMN. Having rewards that are only usable on SMN is about the same as if you being able to do PotD on any class but being able to ONLY bring PLD weapons out, no other at all
If SE did that, they'd really kick most of their playerbase for doing something with a reward only a few can actually use.
It's not in the live letter but in my experience SE doesn't usually tell us absolutely everything we're going to get in them. They usually leave a few surprises and other things we didn't expect to be seen when the patch notes go live, they also could end up making a news post about it during one of the weeks leading up to the patch itself. My advice is "wait and see but don't get your hopes up."
It is only part 1 so should be more stuff coming in part 2
Man it's been so many years... I could have sworn they said something about a new egi with increased level cap... Where is ramuh egi.... Shiva egi.. Leviathan... Do we need to wait 5 more years for just these 3?
Wishful thinking here but 4.0 needs a complete overhaul on SMN pets in the game because it obviously isn't working. The original concept of one melee one range didn't work because DPS is DPS in this game regards of source. No elemental weakness means no requirement of different magic types. As it stands, MCH has better pet choices then SMN.
Why do people want egi glamours anyways? It won't affect gameplay at all and the egis look fine as-is... I'd rather them spend development on something else thanks
Let me take a crack at it:
1) Because there are 6 "vanilla" primals encountered in the ARR story, most that are Final Fantasy (and summonable in FFXI) staples for past Summoners. Yet up until now we only have 3.
2) This rendition of Summoner thus far has the fewest "summons" in the series. Easily less than half of all other renditions. Players are justified to expect something more eventually.
3) Because the devs stated at one point that Summoners would be getting new egis in HW then backpedaled when they found out balancing new pets would take too much work. They then claimed instead the remaining/new egis would just be glamoured over the old ones.
4) New egis(glamour) not affecting gameplay is the whole point of reskinning them; the devs didn't want to make brand-new ones that would upset balance/be useless.
5) "Egis looking fine as is" can be (and has been) debated in another thread altogether. This is less about how our current ones look and more about when are SMNs getting at the very least, the other 3 original elemental primal egis? (Personally, I also think they look fine)
6) Carbuncles already exist with in-game models and abilities. They appear to be the 1st batch of egi glamour (unless the devs plan to surprise us), which begs to question as to why did it take so long to make something that already exists in-game to be worked-in as an extra feature for SMNs?
IMO depending on what part of the development team is responsible for egi glamours (I feel like it may be the same people who design the minions), I'd like to know what is more pressing than "catching up" this installation of Summoner to the standards of previous installments? And don't come after me with "lore" when we have been told "it's coming," and until then we're only told in-game that we can't handle new egis right now (or even resummon Carbuncle as a SMN) when it can and will be easily retconned.
It's more for nostalgia purposes. Job rebalance might take place in 4.0 so don't get me wrong I'd love to see adjustments to the actual abilities for the egi's, or if the team can help out with other content that'd great.
At the same time I'll admit I was more about the job / class when I was able to summon Carbuncle over Garuda-egi. I took so many pictures in a hooded robe with a book and carbuncle out and our adventure. A lot of posts have been more about the egi and how they look compared to their actual functions. I've seen some pretty nice talks about summoner and their abilities / suggested improvements, but no where near the level of detail someone has put into the "make it look pretty" threads.
It has taken them a while, but to understand exactly why? I don't think anyone wants the actual answer, though it would come down to in the Rubik's Cube of project management this was not one of the colors and was put to the side for next time. Though it might take little time to do it, that's not the only factor that comes in. One team doing something could bottleneck others. Or time..contractors..who is doing what and their abilities..money money money..guy that doesn't know what's going on saying no due to good or bad advice..it's all out there.
The general consensus between summoners is that the egi do not look fine as-is, and never have; they're giant lifeless blobs. Carbuncles actually had some emotion to them and actually looked like something you wanted to pet.
Even giving two/three cloned summon spells where the only change is a model swap to carbuncle would be a start of showing a lot of love towards summoners. They obviously don't want to do that because it's a cheap way out of giving people what they want. No, it HAS to be some mechanic/quest/whatever/interface they develop instead of a slight rewrite of a script.
I guess I just don't agree. I think they look cool. So what they don't look *exactly* like the primal; they're not supposed to. I'm also not in favor of breaking the lore since Summoners are supposed to wield the power of the primals we've defeated, and I'm not seeing how the carbuncles apply to that.
I would be in favor of retexturing them so Ifrit doesn't look crappy up close but honestly it's just not something I want developers spending time on. No one in-game ever talks about this, only people whining about broken promises on the forums. If they were to add additional summons, how would these even be different? We have a caster, a melee, and a pseudo-tank. What more do people want? Some say the devs are lacking imagination/creativity but I've yet to see any suggestions for a wholly unique & useful summon that wouldn't replace one we already have.
Wonderous trials miqote npc will more than likely have carby glamour for some of her rewards (not out yet). She is a carby master and has a ruby carbuncle as her pet.
The devs want to give a treat to smns but they don't want to invest lots of developer time into 1 class when there is plenty of other meaningful things they could be doing.
I am pleased about the carby stuff, I was always sad to lose those pets from my arcanist.
Nobody likes/wants the current summons, so instead of making brand new stuff, they will just add the exisiting carby models and skill animations and everyone is happy and case closed.
If you are one of those people who can't accept developer direction, time constraints, developer costs, initiative, then honestly too bad for you, I am happy with their decision of the actual smn character being more powerful than the summons.
SCH too plz. :[
I feel there should be a glamour for summoners, considering it doesn't make too much sense that they can just no longer be able to summon carbuncle, despite being more skilled than an arcanist. honestly i rather have caster carbie or tank carbie over garuda, and i definitely dislike titan. feel topaz carbuncle is way more hype.
but this isn't the only glamour issue. the biggest i feel is gender exclusive, which is terrible for this type of game or any game where you can make your own character.
I also agree with my predecessor: the egi primals are essentially ugly. I prefer carbuncle and I felt they were way more efficient. i understand that they might want to distinguish arcanist from summoner, but i do not care: summoner is pretty much just a stronger arcanist....
Yeah, Titan Egi looks absolutely terrible. Good thing he's not usable in 97% of content.
I didn't see it either and he said "in the LL on the 14 hour stream we will be announcing everything in 3.4"
perhaps he meant battle content wise? Because there was no hair styles shown or glamour outfits..and we always get those :)
No, not everyone has a disdain for them. I do agree mayhaps bringing in new primals eventually, but I am one of I could presume many to not want a silly carbuncle or fairy.
