Yes. I went there.
Care to give examples, or you just like making vague statements with nothing of substance to back them up?
Prepare for the Mother Teresa's!!!!
Good luck keeping this thread on topic!
FFXI had interesting concepts but I could never play it because I don't own a Playstation, and even with a controller on the PC the game is still clunky.
What parts of the game are you referring to OP? I think the main problem(for the future) for FFXIV is the writing, the writers(how many people exactly are working on the main scenario?) we need the writers to work double time to have good content for the game.
How about no?
I'd very much like Eorzea and FFXIV to be a thing unto themselves instead of cloning and old game.
Prepare for 10 pages of bullcheese
PSHHH make ff14 more like diablo!
give us our cow level yoshi p!!
I would welcome the traditional sub-jobs we had in XI, as it gave a lot more flavor to experiment with. Another thing I would welcome is a optional Valkurm Dunes style zone that went back to camp/puller/chain method of exp gains. This was somewhat brought in with Deep Dungeon given the fact it can be ran with any party set up; although the camp method gave a TON of room for social interaction - which is what I miss most of XI. Other than that mechanic wise I think XIV is doing alright, probably more I'm not currently thinking of but overall it has a clean play-style feeling. I would however love an event or expansion even that expands upon Iroha's travel between the worlds, allowing us seeing San d'Oria and the rest in current gen graphics.
What they did to this game is basically like if they made a next chapter of Mario Bros. But it played like Sonic the Hedgehog. Tanaka had FFXI in his head when developing 1.0. Yoshi had/has WoW in his head for 2.0 and beyond. The writing is on the wall.
Let's see where I land on this thing....
YES!!!.. page 2..
I would love removing telegraphed attacks and maybe just increase normal attacks a little to compensate.
You must be very religious, seems you have a fascination with Mother Teresa. Just a note and maybe write it down. Just because someone disagree's they aren't Mother Teresa. You need to try and understand what a discussion forum is all about. Maybe a few more prayers might help.
OP is not even trying. I guess people can't even make an effort, just like they do in the Duty Finder. Stop Netflxing while posting pls.
I'd rather they make FFXIV like FFXIV and not like any other game altogether >.>
lol I'm far from religious. I find its a better name than going around saying White knights or fan boys, etc. You need to calm down a bit, I know full well what a discussion forum is. The funny thing is though NO ONE can have a discussion lately without being attacked because it doesn't involve saying how amazing or perfect this game is. They are also the ones being vile and toxic for most of the discussions, I would pray for them and you but I don't pray soz.
Mobs in XI worked on TP. And even then you didn't know what ability they were gonna use. Totally random.
I'll bite :3
-XI has an extremely varied endgame. Even early on within the first few years I would say they had XIV beat.
-Horizontal progression. There is something to be said about expanding your gear set instead of having to replace it in full every time a major patch hits.
-Old content was not made obsolete after major patches
-Overworld that is actually dangerous. You had to be careful when moving around, cant just run through a zone blindly and have no fear
-Great story - this will obviously be subjective of course, but I think they win.
-Actual depth to jobs. There is no simple rotation that is expected to be learned and mastered.
-Support/sub jobs just add to what you can do. Lots of customization options.
-Combat is slow (no button mashing), but requires actual cooperation between players for skillchains and magic bursts, which leads us to....
-Skillchains and magic bursts! Time your weapon skills with other members, and add in a well-timed spell from a mage for some insane damage.
-Varied seasonal events! Each event seems to have its own flare with different things to do. It's not just FATE central.
-Merit system that lets you tweak your job and skills once you hit max level
-Community. Since there is no duty finder, you actually have to build relationships with people on your server. While the norm in XIV is to treat your party members like NPCs, that typically did not fly in XI. You wanna be a prick to your party? People would know about it.
-More involved world. This one is a bit more difficult to explain, but it was a ton of little things. Did you lose conquest in a zone? Now you can't buy from a particular NPC. Beastman run off with your shop owner? You need to go rescue them from the stronghold. Day and moon phases could affect crafting and even the strength of your magic. Many other tiny details as well.
-Fights are not merely a song and dance routine. You have to actually KNOW the mobs and their attacks and act accordingly. No giant red circle telling you how to play.
A few of the main complaints you see about Xi are the travel time and looking for parties. XI has learned and has addressed both of those issues by adding a massive teleportation system and the trust system.
Anyway, XI really is a fantastic game. Obviously it isn't for everyone, but they did a lot of things really well. It's asinine to simply write-off the game because it's old (or whatever your particular reason is). Shoot, they've already taken all the races and half the monsters from XI, why not borrow a bit more?
Wasn't the reason 1.0 failed because it tried too hard to be like ffxi?
Thank you for putting into words where i'm coming from! You get it! Skivvy
What I don't understand is that...FFXI is still there. It hasn't gone anywhere. Why try to change FFXIV when you can easily just play FFXI instead? Or perhaps play both games?
I've learned from many years in my line of work, people don't really know what they want, even though they like to think they do.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't EverQuest the inspiration towards FFXI? So asking for FFXIV to be like FFXI... why not ask for it to go back to the inspiration behind XI?
In any event, as someone who spent 8 years in FFXI and from Phase 3 of the FFXIV ARR Beta til now, I can see how some may want some more... FFXI-ness... in FFXIV. I admit, I would love a return to the XP party system of XI, I really enjoyed that. Maybe some of the NM's/HNM's... Imagine Absolute Virtue or Pandemonium Warden turning up in Eorzea...
But, while as much as I did love FFXI... it's time to move on. Nothing wrong with referencing the past, but do we really want a FFXI 2.0? Could we really trust that? Yoshi P and his current team have done so much to turn FFXIV around from Version 1.0, so credit is due in that regard. I would like them to work on more newer things, instead of reliving the past (except for XP parties... I want them back dammit!).
I do actually play both games currently. If you're on Asura, come hunt me down :)
XIV I keep active more for social reasons. My time is spent in Limsa sitting around doing nothing because I'm at the point where I find most everything else pointless. Gil has no real value. Why bother trying to gear all jobs to the teeth when a patch is looming and will reset everything I've done back to square one. I don't want to spend all my time running the same 2-3 dungeons and raids for gear that makes just about no differnce in the big picture. One might say I've become jaded with the game.
Why do I keep playing? Because I really WANT to like it. I think they could make the game far better than it is, but they've gone the easy, safe route, and that makes me sad.
In regards to Everquest - It seems a bit less far fetched to ask SE to borrow some things from their one and only other MMO instead of taking from an even older, unrelated MMO. While I would have loved an updated XI, I'm really not pushing for that. Just hoping they can somehow flesh out XIV as it is in some major need of depth.
I'm just always amazed at the people who have the knee-jerk reactions whenever XI is mentioned. Not to be a broken record, but the game really had a lot of great gameplay. There are far worse games that they could draw inspiration from.
