Papalymo's name

Okay so recently this has started to bug me. I adore Papalymo, can't wait for his return, XD, but his name is clearly dunesfolk, but he's clearly a plainsfolk, so what's going on there. Of the primary lalas in the story, Papalymo, Tataru, Krile, Wedge, and Nanamo, 2 are dunes with dune names, Tataru and Nanamo, while 2 others, Krile and Wedge are plains with less lalafellian sounding names. But they have names that can fit with the plainsfolk naming schemes, Krile Weile/Mile/Lyle/etc or Kururu (Krile Japanese name) Kuru, and Wedge Credge/Ledge/Sledge/ect. Papalymo's name however, doesn't fit with plainsfolk names and is more along the lines of dunesfolk names, but he has pupils? So is there a reason he has that perticular name or might it be an oversight by the developers. Or could he of had one plainsfolk parent and one dunes but got the dunesfolk name?

Also, the same issue might of happened for Pipin, though it's a little harder to tell. Unlike Papalymo, Pipin's screen time has been limited, to mostly cutscenes, dark cutscenes, and he's not really out in the open to get a closer look at his model, but his eyes, while dark, appear to lack a pupil. If this is true, then he's a dunesfolk with a plainsfolk name. And unlike Papalymo, Krile, and Wedge, we know his full name, Pipin Tarupin. Also, I doubt its just the name Raubhan gave him, since his dialogue indicated Raubhan adopted him when he was young but already had the name.

So what are peoples thoughts on this, is there an explanation?

PS. I know Krile has a full name: Krile Mayer Baldesion, but "Mayer Baldesion" is the adoptive name and we don't know her original one. But based on her Japanese name it's Kururu Kuru, an the English name Krile could fit as well.

It could be similar to the situation of F'llhamin where they came up with her design prior to the completion of race naming convention?

Another thing to consider is her potential for a mixed keeper ancestor in her bloodline and/or genetics

I;m pretty sure in Pipin's case the "pin" part is one suffix.

The thing about female Lalafell names is they they repeat syllables, have a total of 2 unique syllable regardless of clan and both syllables have at least 2 letters (note that there are cases with an additional letter added i, but I don;t think that hampers the pronunciation, the two letter minimum rule can also be bended in some cases). With that in mind I'm certain that Pipin's name is pronounced "pi-pin" or "pip-in" not "pi-pi-n"

Krile is actually a walking FFV reference, so I don't think her name really counts. She does say outright that her grandfather gave her the name Krile in the English version, and that it isn't her birth name.

Same goes for Wedge (and Biggs). They are named thus in reference to reoccurring characters in the FF series. Cid is, too, but his name fits his race.


And is Pipin confirmed Dunesfolk? His eyes are jet black, so it's hard to tell.

I'm pretty sure he is, considering that he seems to be from Ul'dah, which seems to be devoid of Plainsfolk (save maybe the Eastern area of Thanalan that goes into the Twelveswood). While I'm not so eagle-eyed I don't see any traces of the cat's-eye-like pupil that Plainsfolk seem to have.

Also Krile's Japanese name is Kururu so that name does count. As an adopted name likely exclusive to the english script Krile is discounted as a "typical" Lalafellin name.

Orphaning isn't going to exactly be rare in Eorzea. There's a few Miqo'tes that come to mind that have the wrong 'lore' name (such as F'lhammin, or the Serpent Sergeant in South Shroud, H'amneko) and it isn't out of the question to surmise they were adopted into another family and took on that name.

It's also probably more likely that there's going to be Dunesfolk Lalas marrying Plainsfolk and so on and so forth. There's probably naming conventions to do with those events too - such as the male deciding to give a Dunesfolk name if he's a Dunesfolk etc.

It's not uncommon to be "out" of the standard naming, even in real life... I know some asian with totally french name (because the familly lives in France) and I know some french people who doesn't have any asian ascendence, with totally asian (japanese) name...
