In-Game Content/Addition Ideas

My fellow Eorzeans,

The idea behind this thread is to come up with content ideas or general additions that you, as players, would like to see implemented in the game and/or existing content/systems you feel should be improved and how. To give others a better idea of the ideas/revisions being conveyed, please try to be as descriptive as possible to encourage accurate feedback from others.

It is my hope that some day the dev team will look at this thread and draw ideas from here while also crediting those that inspired them, maybe making you guys famous. Who knows.

I'd also like to give credit to the poster Altera(?) for sparking the idea of this thread since he/she tried to convey thoughts to a company. Although they maybe have fell on deaf ears, at least with more people participating in a public manner, it can increase the chance of some of the ideas occuring maybe in 4.0 or 5.0.

If you have any issue with ideas, please establish why to the best of your ability or just do not respond at all. I would like to keep this as civil as possible.

MATERIA COMBINING

Aside from the random trade 5 materia of your choice for a random materia and possible upgrade - I would love to see the ability/function to combine materia into a higher grade of the same type.

It could work at the same NPC "Mutamix" in Central Thanalan. You could go into a menu where you would deposit..saaaay....10-20 of materia of one grade and it would GUARANTEE a materia of the same type but of the next grade.

Not only would this ease the frustrations of DoL/DoH getting their T4-T5 materia (especially when we/they compare how easy it is to get T4/T5 DoW/DoM materia), but it would reinvigorate the Grade 1 - Grade 3 materia markets across all servers, not only making it challenging, yet less frustrating to get the materia, but also giving newer players a good way to earn spare gil other than killing dungeon monsters for 3gil a piece or asking their high level friends for a gil loan.

Also as a plus - the Spiritbonding parties would make a strong return and could give the overworld activities of the game (yes, yes I know - Hunts are a thing too) a much needed boost as far as social activities go.

From a crafting/gathering perspective, I can see this working since there's no real way to get those Vs yet for them that I know of, but the battle materia grade Vs you can already get from PotD so I wouldn't be surprised seeing those go down as well.

Maybe what I would add is, that we have your idea to trade 10 in for the same type in but higher grade OR the option to trade 20 and get one of your choice but the same grade. I think that might help with the resistance materias and such selling faster as well. The reason I put it higher is because people might just find it cheaper to get the high teir resistance and just convert them to something they want.

That's actually a really good idea! Hopefully someone looks into this thread and steals our combined idea and implements it

It'd be nice if they expanded on chocobo racing and instead turned it into more of breeding/raising your own mount that you could take outside of the Gold Saucer. I think this would make the overall mini game much more rewarding and interesting.

You might be editting, but maybe give us some ideas on how you might improve the chocobo racing experience.

PVP castle/airship wars , think Gw2 meets Final Fantasy.

Man, I wish this game brought back the old-school open world feel where the zones were dangerous, have secret or indoor areas and what's there to do is mostly open world content or rather something that involves being there. It'll make the world feel more alive but they'd have to make such big adjustments for it though so they'll definitely not bother with it. Oh well..

Anyway, I'd like to see airship explorations to become something you get in because of an objective instead of being there freestyle (but maybe an option for that, sure). There would be some sort of quest board where you accept quests and have to do the objective before time runs out, it could be gathering (or hunting) specific items or hunting down a really powerful monster (that's already in the area, not something that randomly spawns) and get rewards (tokens?) for completion and you can exchange those for neat stuff. Meanwhile you're in the area, you're free to gather or get mats from monsters, too. I think this way you can't be with other parties in the same zone so there's no competition.

I do like that SE added Palace of the Dead only in the fact that low levels can run them too. But I am thinking the future of MMOs are more in the direction of the sandbox style MMO. However just saying sandbox evokes open world pvp and a miserable time for players what is essentially a PVE game. But it doesn't have to be like that. Basically people are mistaken that it only means pvp and ganking. That style only state that you can pretty much do what you want. There are all kinds of ideas that could be explored to make this game quite exhilarating and allow many to experience something beyond the usual dungeon and gear grind. For FFXIV I see more of a hybrid. A lot of options could be implemented that would give a player many options to follow that gives them so much more exciting things to do, plus the MSQ and plus all of the different dungeons we have now.

Also as Dinnertime mentioned about Airships etc. Right now they are nothing but cutscenes. I was so much looking forward to actually flying a one for real. And I don't mean the airship mounts. There is so much more content that could be added in that area specially with the sandbox style MMO. Swimming and over the sea, or under it content. This game has so many possibilities to get it out of the current rut it is in. And all of this would be from level 1 on. I would like this game to give more content to lower level players so the feeling that we so badly need to run to level 50 is such a strong and needed thing in this rush rush everywhere world we live in.

An option for players to request repairs from other players, much like a request meld thing. Useful in cases of emergencies if gears break in dungeon and/or helping other players repair gear.

Tree of Savior's developer team implemented a cool idea into their game, where a certain class (Squire) can repair people's equipment beyond its maximum numbers. So if your gear averaged 50/50, an armorsmith or weaponsmith, who's at master level, could repair your gear to 65/50 or 90/50. It'd work wonders for people who constantly have to spend a lot of money for full repairs.

I think, if SE plans to add more Deep Dungeons, they could implement one that gives you a "madness" meter that slowly fills over the course of time. The more full your madness meter gets, the more likely your character starts to hallucinate. You'd actually see crazy stuff on your screen, and eventually would become unable to discern reality from fiction.

EDIT: Maybe a madness-inducing Deep Dungeon could be called something like "Realm of Mirrors", where you get to meet Ferdiad again. Because I don't think he dies when you kill him at the end of whatever Duty he's in.

id like to see other tribes aded to the curent race/ tribe options like maby miqote with more lynx type ears or au-ra with oni type horns or race of amazon like roe women where ther more of a tribal type feel to them could tie in to beast tamer/ beast baster ore even berzerker jobs (if those jobs will ever be implamented) but stuff like that and add more face and even body options to your charicters like sliders for your hips abbs torso thighs cafs stuff like that

Would this fall more in lines with WvWvW? I would honestly kind of like to see something like that implemented. Maybe make a zone the size of Diadem for a control match or something with structural objectives and such but instead of the free company barrier, its just server vs server vs server.

It may be true that diadem might be the only thing we'll get closest to an open world activity simulator, which may or may not be in 3.5 or later. But honestly, I think it would work quite nicely in the long run since you'll be able to interact with other people from other servers in a massive area. Lets just hope the diadem changes are truly objective focuses, like maybe adding structures and other types of mobs. There were caves and such in diadem so it would be nice to explore those and actually fighting through hordes of mobs to reach this underground boss that spawns every 15 minutes or something.

Very true. I think many people felt XI was like a sandbox since you could honestly engage in quite of bit of content from that game at early levels without having to be capped on a single classes. It would definitely be nice to have 1-2 persistent elements that people of various levels can participate in and benefit people of various levels instead of waiting for everyone to be capped. I also agree that PotD has the potential to be a type of content like that depending on what they decide to add on to it in future patches. At the very least for now, it provides people with a decent enough alternative to leveling jobs people do not feel like gearing or wanted to try out, so in that regard I do not feel it will go 'dead' any time soon.

As for airships, are you and dinnertime kind of referring to having stations and such in the airship and multiple people operate? I suppose the only comparison I can speak of first hand to utilize as an example is Archeage, where you had multiple stations that could be operated by people to take on huge creatures in the sea. So you had a navigator, someone steering the ship, and people operating the canons, then you have people doing repairs as well. If you are referring to something like that, that would be very interesting and would draw a lot of attention. At the very least it would be a great thing to do with FCs. Maybe even add a pvp element in their like airship battles that might've been suggested earlier in the thread.

I am definitely with this idea, or at the very least allow us to leave and re-enter dungeons incase we do need to repair or forgot something like games such as WoW and Rift allow players to do.

Referring to an oni race, I could be mistaken but I do believe their is a race with horns in the game or at the very least there are 2 npcs for sure I know of that have small horns, which are the conjurer main quest npc (forgot his name) and the one that was added near the PotD entrance npc in Quarrymill. I'm not sure if the horns they have are like 'real' but I did notice them (even though they kind of just look like elezens with horns) but it would be nice to have an oni race none-the-less. Maybe more horns on their body and such.

Thanks a lot for all of you that have posted so far. There are definitely a lot of good ideas and QoL things that I would personally like to see that have been suggested so far. Can't wait to see what other ideas will be posted.

Or just stick a repair NPC at the dungeon's entrance, like how GW2 did it :D

thos are actualy called the padajal forgive the miss spelling of that they are humans with horns and a latent ability to communicate with natural forces but sadly there's only about 3 or 4 of them left that we know about in the lore of the game kann-e-senna is one of them there all white mages

Branching paths in the story would definitively help make the game feel more interactive. It might also help with the pvp elements in the game as well. That idea kind of reminds me a little bit of a couple of areas in a f2p game called Raiders. Pretty much you would be questing in a certain area and would have to pick sides on a certain issue or whatever and that would determine the pvp factors in certain parts of that particular map (of course you could change if you desired), although the quests were pretty much the exact same in what you had to do, it still made it feel like you had a little sense of choice. Its definitely something SE could look into exploring though. I know the 3 GC thing was pretty much to respect XI and how it did it but honestly XI just embraced PvE (which I was fine with) so maybe its just time to clean it up a little bit, or make pvp'ing more about choices similar to branching arcs like you mentioned and not about representing a branch forever.

Thanks for clarifying that for me. That might be an idea for a future expansion or something since you said that we know of. Or at least it would be an idea of what a new race could look like, just with more horns or something.

I feel that Duty Finder is killing the community. Since it is here to stay, I would be ecstatic if they implemented:

-Cross-server friend list
-"Guesting" on other servers. Can easily visit other friends that are on other servers temporarily
-Cross-server communication

Duty finder is where we spend most of our time while running content, and yet the majority of people treat you like an NPC. The social part of an MMO is HUGE for most people, and this game is lacking it sorely. Giving players the option to talk to and play with people they met through DF would help tremendously.

Running on fumes, so just going to rehash an old whim of an idea: open-world housing.

Each zone has a few different 'hide-aways' that open into player housing zones, each themed differently. Think 'building up Revenant's Toll / Idyllshire, but player-based. Add in bridges, etc. The main idea being that works under the guise of creative housing while actually prototyping server-wide dynamic world construction and events for 4.0 or 5.0, which then utterly reorient the way you think about FATEs and such.

Depth. Anything that has to with depth will greatly improve things. I feel that depth is the single most lacking thing in the game and is mostly all of what is missing.

To end monotone and like said depth to this game with more tone and sound changes for the towns and other areas by changing up the music with a radio option.

Environment reacts to spells cast and damage from all attacks. Ex- Casting fire burnss grass, leaving smoke and char in the zone.

Changes in Animation: new attacking animations/sounds for old repetitive ones. unique play styles such as battle stances and forms to make each player feel different.
The world would also benefit from adding more character mechanics such as more realistic stumbling falling taking damage. I think if you added more camera stuff and by adding weight to characters and monsters instead of having them be go through, or transparent. camera shake. more use of vibration for crafting and button press for events. Interactive cutscenes. Different day/night music for towns and areas. Bards like in Lightning returns, in streets playing instruments and chanting and humming. More life expressiveness for monsters, emoting sitting interacting, Smarter AI.
Final Fantasy Music Station and Eorzea Band - big orchestras like in real life playing real songs. quest for new bard instruments songs and emotes! Weapons that sound good! guitar flute drums MAMBO!

Make PvP gear relevant give us Wolf Marks and Elite Wolf Marks for blue gear that's ilvl say 240 but it's effects outside of PvP are ilvl 200 so people can't farm both n have double access.

The battle system needs depth in my opinion. The few stats we have increase relative to content level so there is no real character progression and little customization. Gear choices offer boosts in these stats and nothing more. As a result, rewards from battle content are unexciting.

i had the same feeling starting out alot of the goodness comes from the feel of the game. so i suggested more animations and character development. new jobs and more customizations to center.

And another thought a photographer or artist.

I would agree. In my opinion, the game would heavily benefit from the merit/job point system from XI at the very least, especially since we got 0 passives from 3.0. 4.0 will definitely hit ability bloat, but I dont want an expansion with all passives. The pacing was a poor choice imo for the first expansion.

This is very odd for them not to do since all FC gear has bonuses, even though they are shallow. To not have equip effects and set bonuses doesn't really motivate a lot of people to do harder content, because it doesn't separate them from just getting something 10-20 ilvls lower. Sure people could argue that its for the challenge, but honestly the challenge isn't always rewarding for everyone.

I just had a thought.

How about, a player run town? Or even simple concepts like taverns. Players can buy shops in towns and set them up to provide services to others eg: carpentry and stuff. They don't have to man it 24/7, and can hire NPCs, whose skills will mirror that of the player. Buyers can access a list of items said player can craft, and perhaps even let the player set prices for their services too. Misc items eg: crafted dyes, can also be added to the list for sale. Requests for items can be made too at the shop itself.

I'm aware this might end up to be another housing situation, but wouldn't that be interesting if it could be properly implemented :O

Since FATE's seem so similar to Rift's rifts why not go all the way in copying them? As in if players won't react to some FATE events, the monsters might "spill over" and start conquering parts of the zone. Eventually some hubs might be run over and the players would have to either take them back or wait it out so that the NPC's would spawn back. These invasions of course scale with the amount of players in the area and in some cases escalate to a world boss if/when players fight back.

1) I'd like crafters and gatherers to have a more substantial place in the story. If (City) is under attack, Crafters can make items to help repair it while gatherers get the mats to make poultices to help the wounded.
2) I'd like to see FATEs have an impact on the world around them. Could tie in with the above.

Very good idea. I would also hope they took rift's idea of also allowing us to get rewards for participating when it completes in the event we have to leave the zone due to hunts or queues popping.

Very good idea and would help with the immersion factor I think while also allowing crafters/gatherers an additional way to get exp or scripts etc.

I think that this might be an infrastructure problem. The game seems to "forget" you FATE progress when you leave a zone and only remembers when you zone back in which will be impossible if you left due to instances. That must have to change if we re to get credit for this.

Instead of adding more stats that will just get the same Crit/Det treatment we currently have, I'd like to see them do more with our current set of stats. Currently the only depth we have to it is more crit means more and stronger crits, and more speed means better dots. Except unless I'm mistaken the weights are too small to invest in.

Skill/Spell speed should increase the regen speed, Det should go the way of Mastery in WoW, parry should not only scale better but actually return half the amount parried back at the target. Instead of elemental resistance the elemental material should act as raw plus to damage, defense, magic defense, regen speed, and luck.

Gear sets need to be a thing. The GC sets have it, why do the raid sets not? Add in a bonus to damage, defense, stats, movement speed, hell even add a unique glow if you complete it all.

As far as combat I think the only thing they could really do to spice it up is add more ways to handle mobs rather than group and AoE. Maybe some are always in a berserk status and can be used to clear out other mobs, others that take more damage while stunned, sleeped, or blinded.

Another thing I would love to see them add is an actual focus to Leve's, or add mission variants to current dungeons. Such as instead of clearing out Satasha your mission is to escort the maidens out while the Yellow Jackets handle the pirates. Qarn you need to bring back as many randomly placed relics within a time limit. Or retrieving a lost civilian from Tam Tara, but instead of protecting him/her from adds, you also have spawning ghost that tether the civilian and if the ghost isn't killed fast enough the civilian is lost to possession and results in a failure.

I dunno how rift does it, but it can be done I'm sure. Trion is kinda all over the place when it comes to coding. Just like I dont get why companions (chocobos) had to be considered as being in a party when wow allows you to have a companion with you all the time.

Choices have always been weird in this game, just like I always felt it odd that you could meld crafted gear but not raid gear. And they didn't adjust that until 3.2. So maybe we'll see raid gear bonuses in 4.X....
