Don't take part then?
I'm only disappointed in it because yokai watch is a really lame anime to me.
But I guess if there's any fans of it kicking around the game they'll enjoy it.
The mount looks kind of silly but then again so do the ponies in this game which look like they are out of my little pony the cartoon...no one is forcing you to take part in the event. Feel free to just continue doing whatever else you want to do instead.
Thats not the point.
The whole event and the items breaks the immersion of the game. I don't want to see the mount and the minions and the stupid items.
I understand people saying "Don't take part" and "Its not a big deal" but it really is a big deal. How long until we start seeing more crap like this? The ONLY reason that this is in the game is because Yoshi is good buds with Akihiro Hina (CEO and President of Youkai Watch).
Would you be happy if you bought the latest Call of Duty game and it had a level where everyone played as Bratz dolls?
Is there something people will NOT be disappointed with in this game? Geez.
This is a crossover event to get something otherworldly to the game - basically a promotion yea (and yes, that was basically the Lightning, Dragon Quest and the FFXI event too!). It's a limited event anyway.
If you think fanservice breaks the lore, we wouldn't even have Bahamut/Alexander/All the past bosses because he's sort of "fanservice" too?
I've never cared for Call of Dooty, but I'd pay good money to see that... That would be amazing, can we get a My Little Pony level as well?
As for "immersion", I cannot count the number of glamours/mounts/minions/etc. that I find stupid on one hand, there are just too many (really SE? You're adding Y'shtolas new outfit to the mog shop? Christ...). A quadraplegic can count the number of times I've actively been bothered by seeing other people enjoying said glamours/mounts/minions/etc. Nobody is forcing you to do this event, nobody is forcing you to look at this stuff, nobody is forcing you to play the Bratz doll level.
If they end up doing more stuff like this? I'll continue ignoring it, and they'll continue making extra money off it... I sincerely doubt Yoshida is doing this purely as a favor, much more likely the XIV team is finding some extra cash out of the arrangement... They kept doing the Lightning event, and I refused to even touch that out of disdain for that particular title, but those FATEs didn't upset me in the slightest... I don't even notice the Lightning glamours these days, and this will be no different... I have much more important things to get upset about in this game, like why the doors in Sylphlands don't open and close like the other beast tribe strongholds...
Really, the biggest issue here is that we still don't have a Bravely Second cross-over event... What the hell Yoshida, what the hell... You have time for cheap anime but not for a coup de gravy?! Mrgrgr... Guess an I am Setsuna cross-over is even lower on the priorities list...
Roleplay idea to keep your immersion. Go to the rising stones and never leave. Pretend you're a hermet or Rapunzel. :p
It's a silly event, but minions and mounts are just extras. The game ignores them from a lore standpoint. NPCs don't care if you're a fresh level 50 newb that friend referred your way to a Twintania mount.
Level 50 newb:*Rides up on Twitania Mount, clearly in npc's view. Dismounts, speaking to the npc.*
Npc: Travel into level 5 of the first coil to kill what awaits... psst it's Twintania.
Level 50 newb: *Mounts and Stares deeply into Twintania's gentle eyes.*...*Silence*... K bitch let's do this I need FCoB gear for my roleplay. Gotta get some nice clothes so i can erp them off me in style.
I gave up on that when they released the Ifrit weapons.
We had all this great traditional gear and they come out with these ridiculous things? The "immersion" was broken from that point on for me. Just gotta take it as it comes along, for better or worse.

Meanwhile on the jp forums they're happily talking about emotes while we're over here complaining about everything that's released. No wonder they fit the game around the jp players, can't please everyone else no matter what.
*looks at the flying turtle farts, flying wolves that fart ice, sees everyone is a WOL, jumping off cliffs can't kill you if you're not a fight...*
Nah, this game has perfect immersion. I dunno why the OP is so upset.
Immersion? Are you joking OP?
I guess OP has never visited the 13th floor where our characters met the development team, saw concept and artwork for the game on the walls, watched a developer riding a unicorn while his character was playing the game (farming atma's on a tv screen) from within the game itself. I guess the OP never noticed the dragon quest event either.
Why am I the bad guy here for wanting to keep a Final Fantasy game designed around Final Fantasy fan service... about Final Fantasy?
If you want Youkai Watch... go play Youkai Watch. I shouldn't have my gaming experience tainted because "omg minions lolwutsaFFIV?"
This is a blatant cash grab (SE is clearly being paid) marketing campaign and doesn't belong here.
Really though? How long until they realize that they can start putting up posters of the Latest Dodge Journey... with a Moogle hood ornament?
I'm sorry but if you don't have a problem with this you are NOT a Final Fantasy fan.
I get all the other crap but a Fem Roe wearing nothing but a Fat Chocobo head and a Bikini is STILL less lore breaking than something like this.
There are tons of references to other games, movies, books, TV shows, etc in the game. Tons. Not even hard to find them (mostly)
Heck, we have a Day of the Tentacle minion...
More tankinis pls! I just came back to the game after 2 years and burst out laughing to see my tank walking around in a leopard print man thong.
"If you're okay with this you are not a real fan, I am!" Ok now you're being childish op, stop.
I find that this isn't as near as toxic as some things we already have in-game. The minions are quite okay if you look at the other minions we have. Some of the weapons aren't that bad (the bow, for example, or ast globe), but the mount... I love goofy mounts like the fat chocobo one but that mount is simply ridiculous. Well, I already have to see people wearing swimsuits (and pretend that it's a dress) to beat monsters... At least it's not on mogstation.
I'm disappointed in this thread but I still have to see it on the front page. Can I get an apology from the OP?
To put it bluntly, you're expressing a very selfish viewpoint. You're saying that you shouldn't have to see these things for little reason other than it tarnishes your personal view of what the game should look like.
Trust me, a little bit of stuff like this won't ruin the experience for you. If I could last through bulky glow weapons, silly jiggle hats, Lightning pandering, and my favorate location in 1.0 being totally ruined, you can survive Jibanyan skipping through a field or two.
Slimes are from Dragon Quest, not Final Fantasy.
I like how the weapons look, I saw the trailer for the event and they looked nice in the ffxiv world. :)

The only thing that dissapointed me is the community of this forum, always complaining about everything when something doesn't like them. Not only dislike the event, also dislike if other people who enjoy it take part.
I remember people beating bahamut in nude glamor, or Snowman glamour. So, what's the difference? I personally like this kind of stuff.
Almost everyone in this forums seems hate the entire game, always believing they can do better job than devs . If you don't like the game or how devs make things, why you continue paying&playing?
im dissapointed that we dont have a fun dungeon that has nothing to do with the lore of ffxiv , like on outer world dungeon from thief , where u have to sneak around instead of fighting , or some dungeon from tomb raider where u have to jump and climb around and solve puzzles :P
edit : im not really dissapointed , but it would be nice if we had such a dungeon XD
I dunno if its selfish to call this out as the shameless unrelated marketing it is. This doesn't seem that far removed from having Pizza Hut Pizza lids as shields and breadsticks as swords.
I wouldn't go so far as to say they that have no problem with it are not fans, its more SE's doing.
Well...

You know very well that it's a possibility.
That aside, FF13 may be in the same franchise, but it's style is so far removed from XIV's that it may as well be a whole different series.
While i agree it's beyond ridiculous, i will happily try my best to ignore just like i have to ignore flying turtles.
SE is abit bi-polar with lore on one hand we still have GC locked Frontlines and on the other hand we have flying turtles.
Also flying turtles.
I was aware of the Luis Vuiton ads, its why I said it.
You may be alright with it, I think its ridiculous and shameless advertising. And its kinda of reaching to say that ffxiii "might as well be its own series".
Like, there no "respect for the lore" here; there is only money. SE will have its silly yokai watch event and people will be flying around in amusment park ghost clouds. Justify it all you want. I'll be elsewhere.
Well, you're right. It is shameless marketing. And I think the same is true for the other 3 crossover events. And I don't think simply belonging to the same franchise or company changes that.
Point #2: I don't think marketing crossovers are really anything to be ashamed of. I treat it with the same non-canonical view as I do everything else that doesn't make sense. The whole point of the game is to give Square a big ol' monthly income, so as much as I would have liked the game to rest on its own strengths, a little advertisement here and there won't ruin it.
