Should I Kick before being Kicked?

If being kicked is going to be such a certainty when voicing my view point, than shouldn't I incite a kick first?

The only other option I found reliable (but very isolative) to circumvent being kicked is to avoid speaking in chat. Of course, this can cause problems not just from a social standpoint but also from a practical one. It can be challenging to coordinate when not speaking or to defend myself when it looks like I will be kicked, despite not saying a word within missions.

Note: To me, Free Companies are like random groups. One or two strong misinterpretations from what I say and I'm out.

So, the more informed question is: Do you believe in inciting a vote to kick (or leave a company before being kicked) to try to preserve your spot and "time" in missions?

Take note of my attempts at keeping the thread civil and comments that are less than friendly.

Take the kick, you're a tank and you will get in again with a fresh party in a few seconds. This is what I do, when I get healers that refuse to heal and DPS with fairies doing their role causing stress amongst everyone.

I tell them to either switch to healer stance and prevent the DPS from dying every boss fight or I will just stand still until they either boot me, or someone leaves so I can also leave both without penalty.

It's not just an attitude it's how events played out for me. Players just do some form of what I have said instead of talking about it. Reading and witnessing it can give very different perspectives.

Hopefully, your comment is not the dominate one because it may mean that too many players are too desensitized to the issue I posted. "Getting kicked is not a big deal". I am looking for ways to help my issue, not ignore it.

I know Warrior is built to do just about everything other than heal others but I didn't believe that it would be "abused".

I was in the Sunken Temple of Qarn. I told a player that they were waiting too long to Heal. They DC'd without my notice so that was on me.

Later I argued that the DPS were not focusing on the bees. I was told it's my responsibility to take care of them. I new that it was as far as gaining their attention and doing what I could take them down. However, it seemed as if they viewed me being responsible for all the mechanics in the room while they were free to hit whatever they wanted without responsibility.

I was taken out often in that part of the mission but I salvaged it by being raised and taking down boss before the party wiped. I was kicked soon after.

I can see your way working for XP gathering or Guildhests but a lot of time can be spent if the goal is to actually complete a level.

I've certainly had my share of arguments and drama through refusing, to use your own words, to "yield to other players" (usually over abuse towards others or lazy/ bad playing, etc.) but I don't usually get kicks for it.

If it's that common a problem for you, it might be best to re-evaluate your attitude and how you come across to others. Though it sounds like you're more paranoid about the possibility of being kicked rather than actually getting a lot of them?

If there was a likeliness that players would be "lenient", what you said may be doable. However and in my experience, they're not.

Bottom Line: I don't believe groups are consistently fair enough for me to talk it out with them. That's why I am gathering information on what I can do myself. Being mute won't serve me well for too long. Especially as an "inexperienced" Tank.

If you're getting kicked that much, imho, you should change the way you see things. For me, not talking/comunicating will be one factor to kick, not the other way round. I like to play with people, not bots/NPCs. Kick before you get kicked isn't the correct approach either as I see it. It's more "what is wrong with me or what can I change on how I play to not get kicked so much?" Also it's not like you're the tank so let them kick, tank ftw. That's a primadonna attitude which will get you kicked even more.
If you're unsure about a duty/dungeon, say it. Don't remain silent and just carry on. Be polite, helpful, and even though it might seem to much to ask of the internet, be trusting. People don't just kick for the sake of kicking nor is there a hidden achievement for amount of kicks done. If you're getting kicked so much, then there is something about how you play, attitude, how you come across, or all of it together.

Don't yield if you know your place and what to do in mechanic wise then dont worry about others. if they dont know just leave and find others that do know, easy for you cause yer a tank. tanks always wanted

You need to check yourself first if this thing is happening to you on such a consistent basis that you need to actually create a thread about it. I have been playing this game since beta v1 and although you do run into annoying or aggressive players or those who want things done one way only, that is usually the oddity. I tend to have fun in my pts, chat and have a good time or ppl just stay silent.

So if this is happening to you really often, how are you approaching the situation? Are you maybe reading someone stating a strat they know, that you don't as you said you are new, and you are just being too sensitive and thinking its criticism when its just someone explaining? Esp during a fight when things are kept short cause, well, your in the middle of a fight. Or are you being the jerk of the pt and ppl are responding to you as such?

Bottom line, if you are being kicked or getting in arguments with your teammates more often then not, its likely not everybody else who is the problem...

I can get how you might be not understood as I am not fully grasping what you are trying to say.

What can I say though? I don't think I've ever been kicked in this game ever(2 past years). If you are getting kicked frequently perhaps maybe you are thinking too much into situations and micromanaging them too much? From my last 2+ years in this game, I can say that even in savage raid pugs and ex primals pugs that I rarely need to talk. If for some reason I do need to discuss strategy then it's easily kept to a few bits of information "I'll tank the ones that spawn on the right"...etc For everything else, like I believe you mentioned just random roulette content(?) I have no need to talk. if someone is doing something wrong and we still can complete the duty anyway I'll just let them do whatever they want. If they are doing something that will prevent duty completion I'll just attempt to kick them and if it doesn't go through, then I'll leave and accept penalty. It's pretty easy. I mean of course if they seem a reasonable person I'd try to talk to them instead of kicking them but we are talking roulette content. If they can't push buttons and not stand in fire... 9 times out of 10 it's because they are doing it on purpose. If I honestly believe they are just new or have a issue understanding then I'll help them naturally.

I do agree that fc's are pretty under utilized in this game as they are a glorified linkshell with a airship (if you are lucky) for the most part.

All I can say is it sounds like you are part of the Geuno FC groups... They are a buncha drama queens that like starting crap my advice is just leave before they can get off on kicking you.

LOL dude i was in that dungeon with you. Remember what i said when we completed the dungeon? Ppl often go about things the wrong way but you can't just assume someone is being rude just for the sake of it. There's often a reason behind it. Now lets look at the situation you were in. It started by you wanting to move at your own pace while the rest of the group wanted to move much quicker between pulls. This by it's self was not an issue since our healer was capable of keeping the dps up if they were tanking the mobs. So there should have been no probs and we should have moved through the dungeon just like that the whole time and completed it and went our separate ways. One thing you need to keep in mind is that on this game, dungeons are ridiculously easy content and can be done even if someone isn't doing there job. So 99% of players go in expecting to just get it done. In this specific case it didn't matter if you tanked or not because the healer could keep the dps up while tanking. Naturally this would make you feel unneeded and so you decided to speak up and say "Can you stop running ahead of me?" to which i replied "then move faster" and you said "ok fine you tank then". After this point I noticed you just sitting there while we killed the frog but then i'd assume once you realized that wee weren't having any issues you decided to try and tank again. But at this point it was already too late, everyone in the instance had already gained a negative opinion of you. After that the healer constantly let you die even when you tried to keep up with us and tank which was bad on his part but that isn't where the problem stems from. The issue is that, when realizing you weren't meeting the expectations of everyone in the instance, you decided to make an attempt at pulling everyone down to your skill level instead of rising up to the rest of the groups skill level. We had amazing dps an our healer was competent enough to keep everyone alive regardless of who's tanking. All we needed at the point was a tank who knew how to pull big and keep aggro and we were set. Do you see where i'm going with this? Yes the ppl in that dungeon where very rude to you and i especially disagree with the fact that the healer stopped healing you when you tried to do your job but the underlying problem here is that you are refusing to better yourself. Do some research here on the forums, look up youtube guides, watch some play throughs of other tanks doing dungeons and try to learn how to play your job to the best of your ability. That is how you will overcome running into problems when doing instanced content. Now you said something about being kicked so I can only assume that you run into these issues a lot since we never tried to kick you the time i played with you but kicking someone before you are kicked is never the answer as it will often result in the dungeon not even getting done at all. How can that feel satisfying to you? Just look to improve and you find far more satisfaction. I've obviously got nothing against you, I just hope this advice will save you from getting on more players bad sides since as a tank, that is REALLY easy to do.

Edit: I just read the rest of the posts and there is some incredibly helpful advice. It all boils down to not looking to blame others and looking to see what you yourself can improve. The most obvious improvement is your skill at the game. Make it so that you don't have to say your an "inexperienced tank" on the forums. And also notice that not one person has said to give up tanking. It's a very achievable goal

Should I kick people before i get kicked?... uh Sure... or or... Deliberate whether they have tried to explain something constructive or if it's trolling. If it's the first, take the criticism. Reflect on it. Bring it with you next time you're in the same scenario. Discuss it in your FC or ask in PF for advice. If it was trolling, ignore it and if kicked, insta- requeue

It's clear I have been misunderstood and this misunderstanding is likely not going to change (after about a year or so I am still hearing the same advice). I'll continue to figure out my problems using my own methods.

Dealing with people in the way many players proposed will likely make everyone happy but me. (i.e. there isn't much room for creativity using the methods that were proposed).

This game may be old to many but it's not to me. I'll will not be completely robbed of the quality experience players had when this game was launched; where "no one knew anything". It's no coincidence that my missions run smoother with players my own skill level given the caution they show.

I was hopeful that I would get a "new" experience by reaching out...

For now, I'll Solo Play and stick to my research.

Wait, I'm confused... Hopefully I'm reading this wrong, and there's more I don't know about since I wasn't there to see any of it, but I'm getting the impression here that the rest of the party tried to force the OP into moving at a faster pace than he was comfortable with, started pulling ahead of him when he didn't change his pace to meet their demands, and expected him to be okay with that? And when he reacted to it, the healer punished him by letting him die numerous times and everybody blames him 100%.

Now, I agree with most of what's been said in this thread that if a player is experiencing kicks this regularly that it's likely the player that is the problem, not the groups. There is also some good advice to OP throughout the thread. But that being said, I also wouldn't expect a tank in the situation I just described to be all unicorns and rainbows about that kind of treatment. This type of situation is one of the reasons I haven't leveled a tank class myself, and likely won't ever use DF on a tank class. People can be very harsh toward inexperienced tanks, and if the above is really how it happened then it's more validating the op's claims of victimization than disputing them.

But like I said, I could be wrong. I will note though that the OP is a level 40 warrior according to the info by his character icon, so if that's his main job then it's more than likely he is still learning.

I realize I have issues with players running ahead of me. I proved this to myself when I did well in Aurum Vale yesterday. The team stayed with me and gave me time to think. Today that did not happen in Dzemael Darkhold and I did not do well.

When I don't have time to think of what I am going to do, problems happen. I am still having problems quickly targeting through Adds and I have not developed enough muscle memory yet. So yes, I need to think at this point to have a "good" chance at doing well.

No, What you're doing is focusing on one line of my post and reading it out of context. A level 40 tank won't play like a level 60, even if he's good, he doesn't have the job skills to do so. The issue was that he wanted us to go slowly behind him when it was unnecessary and refused to try to play at our pace. It's not like anyone was doing big pulls or expected big pulls, we just didn't want to sit there after every pull for a min+ for him to think about his next move. There's literally nothing to think about, all he has to do is use that same weapon skills as he did in the last pull and he would have been fine. Instead he wanted to go slow and so the other dps just started moving ahead and since the healer could keep us all up we just followed suit. He seems to run into these issues in a lot of the dungeons he does so i suggested that he just get better at the game. Look up guides and watch videos of how other tanks play and he won't have issues with other ppl who just want to get the dungeon done. If he does this then he'll learn to recognize that he's in a group that knows what they're doing and all he has to do is basically say he's new at the start of the dungeon and then just enjoy the ride. If there's something he needs to know then someone will tell him, if the group wants him to pull faster then all he's gotta do is keep going from mob to mob and the healer will make up for the rest. He will basically learn proper dungeon etiquette.

Now after reading one of his more recent posts, i can now see that he wants to enjoy the dungeons nice and slow as a new experience and sadly he won't find that in this game unless he gets 3 other ppl who are new to help him with this. The only way to truly experience a lot of this stuff as if it were new is to catch up to current content.

Yes, that is pretty much exactly what happened other than blaming him 100%. The healer's decision was completely counterproductive. And no i wouldn't expect a tank to be comfortable with that situation either.

Indeed this is not a slow paced game and I can be the most nice and understanding person in a party sometimes but I have no patience for someone who is going to stand there between pulls silent and doing nothing from my perspective. Same with mark targets, you need to do it fast as you are moving or not at all, preferably not at all.

If I have to wait over a minute between pulls I would vote kick as well, esp if the tank got snotty with me, which this guy seems to do. Even his posts on here sound, let's just say not worded in a polite manner.

Honestly by level 40 you should be well enough versed in your job to keep moving and not have to stop and think before each and every pull, or just dps until you get a feel for how the game works. I can understand taking a new dungeon slower, but you should still be confident enough in your skill set to run into a group and go for it. Explain your new, if you screw up its more forgivable to wipe then loooooooooong waits.

Have you ever thought that if everyone is telling you the same thing that maybe it's correct? If you mean to say that when this game launched that things were much different, then I'm sorry to say no they weren't. I was there. It's always been about the same (with dungeons/leveling). If anything there are more new players now more than ever that are starting from scratch. Many of the people starting off *right* at launch were likely enthusiasts of this genre of games. I see more players just playing ffxiv as their first "MMO" game now more than I did in the last 2+ years.

I mean, I get what the point of this thread was. You want some kind of gratification for your actions. I can understand you would want to feel you were in the right. People were being rude and you felt uncomfortable most likely. I'd feel uncomfortable too. My best advice is, if you do a random group like that again and things go bad... just leave the group? That's what I do. If people in a random roulette want to try to start some crap I just leave. It's a 30minute penalty... it's nothing. I go gather/craft...get a snack or whatever. It's not worth me having a heated discussion with a stranger for no reason. You can find another group easily in just a short bit where maybe it would go better.

Having a heated discussion about tactics in a dungeon roulette isn't worth it. If I can clear a dungeon 99.9% of the time with not a word and someone wants to nitpick my playing or something all of a sudden or wants me to do something I'm not comfortable doing...then I can just bail. It's not a big deal to leave at all. It doesn't hurt them either. They get a new person. Maybe the new person is fine with whatever they were saying too and they will be happy. This doesn't happen often but I used to play a lot so of course you get a weird situation eventually. Plan what you want to do before you get into those heated situations. It's a MMO so of course you'll run into other people. Some people of course aren't going to get along. It doesn't make either of you wrong or bad. It happens. It's not even a big deal if handled properly.

this is pretty much why you wait an age for tanks in DF. First, a lot of people won't even bother to learn tanking, and second, even after you have, you have no desire to put up with the crap of others deciding they'll pull whatever they want, whenever they want (and with zero regard for how much MP/TP the tank might have at the time, if they are still learning/lower geared, etc). I doubt I'm the only one out there who can tank OK but isn't the slightest bit interested in doing it through DF.

To me, my original post is neutral in attitude; not emotional at all.

All my post are not attacking anyone directly; I know how to speak without doing so. However and in my experience, too many players do not do the same. They confuse my neutrality with "impoliteness" and become angered by it and try to put me down. They sometimes rationalize why their behavior was justified but always seem to move on without care. If I were to behave in the same manner, the outcome would be different, I would be kicked on the spot.

I take what I'm told with a grain of salt. Too many players don't care if their information helps. They just want to enjoy themselves.

Maybe you could change the way you write a little to sound more polite, don't need to much effort to do that.

Also I would not like to see my tank enter a little coma everytime the mobs die to "think" his next move. I'm also a new tank and I've started last month, but I'm always thinking what should I do, what mob should I focus on, where are my party members, where's the next pull? Will it aggro if someone do stupid things on this one (so I can be prepared for that)? What mob should I focus on the next pull that has aoe? Where the DPS are likely to position themselves then? Where should I position myself to make the AOEs only land on me? Will the DPS attack all mobs or will they attack only the one I'm attacking at the time?

You should be always thinking, all the time, not only when it's the time to pull a new pack of mobs.

Honestly, people usually kick people for telling others what to do or for being really horrible. If you're a tank, just make sure you know how to use your cool downs and are able to get hate. I saw in a comment that you were kicked from Qarn after trying to tell the healer how to heal and then arguing with the dps about the bees. At this point in the game, most people expect final sting to be stunned. So there's a tip for you to avoid that argument. Also, you can mark things with a 1 to try to get the dps to focus it. Just accept that people are learning how to play their class in lower level dungeons, sometimes even in level 60 dungeons x_x. You focus on what you need to do and let them figure it out. You can always ask people in dungeons to let you know if you can do something to help them or if they have any feedback for you. That generally negates any upset if you make a mistake and people, from my experience, are willing to help you figure it out.

In the kind of situation described by the person who was with you, you could go ahead and try to kick, I doubt anyone would agree. And you come off extremely arrogant saying this situation "isn't likely to change". You got clear advice on what to do in that dungeon and the only reason it wouldn't change is if you continue to not heed that advice.

Players can go at the pace a level demands and not impose their own standards for complete "strangers" to follow (ex: jumping ahead of the tank because their "too slow"). If I'm making missteps, I'll figure it out, not listening to "advice" from someone that doesn't even know how I learn much less take responsibility for the outcome of my actions.

Ultimately, most players would not care whether I do well or not, which was the case of the player that was trying to discipline me by not healing me. Too many players just role play the part of a "philanthropist" because it's fun. They don't care whether or not their help is really helping. Slow and steady is better method to run with then speed and haste. I have and still do believe that low level dungeons is place for players to learn at a comfortable pace.

Bottom Line: I should be able to run low level instances without direct criticism. Let the game be the leader (i.e. making the standards and rules); it's likely going to be more consistently fair and better to follow for a bunch of "strangers".

Side Note: Currently, it seems to be best to look at the rules of the game to understand if I did anything out of turn.

Well too many players haven't given me benefit of the doubt.

My thread was about what was the mindset of the community about my kicking idea. Instead, a "flood" of comments on my character and lectures to me on matters I have explored in depth (pre-thread). Then I get a comment telling me its over; basically suggesting take it for what its worth and move on. So may be a little more "meat" is needed in my posts.

I can't honestly think of any DF situation in which you'd need to use chat to coordinate. It may be necessary to improve party conditions, but coordination in a given moment is well beyond DF.

You're dealing with a mixture of convention and habit. The prior usually leads to the fastest runs with minimal standard error, but those following it may assume party conditions that are not presently accurate. The latter may include Physic-spamming SCHs, no-positional melee, DoT-less DPS, or no CD tanks. Ask for a pre-Adlo, ask that heals be held during the pull itself if not all mobs can be grabbed with a single AoE, ask that DPS follow marks when given. The rest is pretty well out of your direct control, but a surprising amount can be done with quick, neutral comments, rather than discussion, and leading with your back—especially if you at least look like you're the kind of guy who'd turn around when it's needed.

The only real way to prevent a kick is, as you said, to incite a vote—any vote—and chain pull without further upsetting anyone until the thought of kicking you is forgotten. However, if they determined you're the one who started the vote, that becomes very unlikely. As such, it's not a realistic option. Worse, chances are it's a premade that will be kicking you unless you are doing something very wrong (which, to many, can be as little as pulling too hesitantly, not timing your CDs to maximize healer dps where healer AoE filler is poor, or forcing the healer to maintain a health percentage on you because you don't mitigate certain tankbusters when he'd rather be perfecting DoT uptime, but to most will be along the lines of unagreeableness, or a failure to keep up on your GCDs and pulls even while arguing). They can, albeit through abuse, kick you for as little as wanting to give a friend his daily bonus instead, at the last boss. You'll probably find a few threads on that exact subject from over the course of ARR. Against one, you're kind of shit out of luck.
