Now that they've got us going back to old areas do you reckon there's any chance they'll fix the hack-job they did on the DX11 client features?

Sorry, but what are we looking for?
Edit: The NPC appearing to hover slightly over the wood with one of their feet?
I assume you mean the bubbling effect from the poorly implemented parallax maps/tesselation. I really doubt they'll do anything about it since they have a hundred things on their to-do list that are more important.
These QoL suggestions are getting out of hand.
Do you not think the developers have more important things on their hands.
I love how everyone fails to see the problem here. Is not just wood textures. Parallax works horribly in this game cause textures are so low resolution that it just adds way too many "polygons" to the texture mapping since its just way pixelated. End result is that parallax literally breaks the graphics and immersion into the experience (mud/tumor mountains...) and the solution isn`t really on parallax end, but in proper texture resolution upgrades for this game, which is using 256x256 textures all over the damned place.
Game has to be look from afar to look pretty, literally its only redeeming quality is a somewhat good lightning (cause shadows are broken atm and they have been "looking into them" for a year now). Close up on anything and the game looks 2006ish at best.
Worse part of all of this, is that the solution for this already exist. All textures of this game are probably downscaled, so, proper HD textures already exist. So, whats been asking here is not some "low priority QoL". This is basically devs not wanting to put in game something they have already developed, all they have to do is to make an optional installer and pack what, arround 16gb of extra download? I can do that, for free if they want to. Id even put music on the installer. Crappy music without a mute button.
TL;DR: This is more than just "wood looking bad". Its a severe lack of caring on developers end and a experience breaking issue that could be solved in matter of days. Damn, this shouldn`t be an issue to begin with.
I obviously can't speak for everyone else, but I guess I personally just don't really consider it a problem.
If the texture quality is increased, awesome, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it, I think the game looks fantastic already. But then I'm in my late 30's and grew up playing games looking like this:

(Actual resolution!)
it is soooooooooo game breaking *eyeroll*
It is. Weird right? Maybe it has to be on how important vision and visuals as methods to gather information? When something looks bad it ruins your experience, period. Like when you look at mountains that look like they growing tumorous cancer and when you zoom into a nice gear set that looked so good in the preview window but you just noticed that the pixels on that leather jacket are so big, it looks like if someone made it on ms paint.
I don't even know why did they even implement this half-ass graphical feature in the first place.
That being said, it's probably on their looooooooooooooooooooower priority regarding the fix for this. Your best course of action would probably be just turning it off.
Mm yeah those hunky highlander makes me drool with the dx11...
Oh we're not talking about that? *goes out*
That's a weird definition. Falling through the floor to infinity is game breaking. Not seeing graphical cue for instant-kill move is game breaking. Being unable to change zone is game breaking. Invisible hotbars are game breaking.
The visual information delivered by a wooden plank is not game breaking. UI elements and mechanical indicators might be. Maybe it ruins your immersion, but that's another story.
I thought I was the only one seeing this tumor effect all over the place. Some surfaces also have this weird "barrier" looking effect to them, as if they've been coated with a gel, it's really odd looking.
+1
There is a time and place for it sure, but it's not the end all be all QoL they need to worry about. Hell personally, I'd much rather them fix the clipping issues with hair going through armor and feet going through floors far more than I would some kind of HD texture resolution pack.
Its just as bad as floors(damaged, dirty floors) and carpets being shiny when they shouldn't be. I hope its fixed some day.
Now days there people out that only seem to care about graphics, it like "oh who cares about making better content, you gotta make these graphics look better"
I'm not really obsessed with graphics so I don't really think that XIV graphics look that bad, now if they looks more like XI's I could see the argument and for the "it 2016" 2.0 XIV is just recycled 1.0 assets which were made in 2010 not in 2016.
The parallax stuff is really awful, I had to turn it off. There's another fun issue with it that it only affects things at a certain angle and radius from you, so as you're walking around it looks like the ground around you is melting and morphing. Whatever effect they were trying to go for with that graphical feature, they failed horribly. I don't know how it passed QA.
I also agree with the texture issue. There's really no excuse in this day for the textures to look so bad. They have much higher resolution textures as the master copy they downsample from, so why can't they provide much higher quality textures for people who have the computers to run them? Any medium powered computer can handle much higher textures than the ones they currently have. The easy excuse is to just say "but the PS3", though that's not really an excuse because there's no reason they couldn't make it a graphics option like almost any other game ever.
I don't know what we're supposed to be looking at that's so problematic. Please consider that not everyone will simply see the same "issues" you do.
You can say that againQuote:
Damn, this shouldn`t be an issue to begin with.
They left out 1.0s graphics, textures, animations, weight(iness). When they added the Dx11 features it seems they just added it to everything and anything without taking the time to see what should have it and what shouldn't. Other than that the games design is amazing and I love it.
I'm waiting to get my new computer to play in DirectX 11 mode, I'm a sucker for pretty graphics, and I'm worried now that I will be greatly disappointed. If the high res textures already exists, which seems to be the case, there is no point in not adding them in some way.
They can add HD-res to mog shop for $24.99 please look forward to it
We're gonna need some cheese for all this whine.
I can think of a much bigger eyesore. Honestly don't see anything wrong with the OP image.

This stuff drives me crazy. Give us better textures please.
And for shadows: http://i.imgur.com/v92Yw14.jpg
Honestly, graphics are one of the biggest issues with the game right now, and solutions are right there, on the drives of the developing team, this isn`t a thing about priorities or resources, is just about caring enough about the condition of your game. Thing that is sadly lacking lately...
Of all the threads of people saying they quit or unsubbing from the game I don't remember any of them saying it cause of poor graphics. All the things people complain about here on the forums I would list poor graphics at the bottom of the list of things I see people complain about.
All I got to say is, if you have ever played or been on a PS3, you'll appreciate what you have now if you upgraded off of it.
So wood is the new grass?
Edit: On a serious note... Monster Hunter games on the 3DS have better textures than we do. A HANDHELD game looks better than what we have. Come on. >_>+
I may have some visual senitivity to those surfaces. For some reason, seeing these jagged textures up-close physically makes me cringe. I mean that literally, too; I look at those pictures being posted and feel something internally. I really can't stand it. Square, please fix it, as its going to ruin this game for me
Check out that area in Quarrymill with Parallax Occlusion turned High and then Normal - you'll see how it's not doing what it's supposed to (in other areas, such as the ground around the area in the screen shot, the effect is a more subtle shift that gives various terrain a more 3D textured effect). The issue is most pronounced on various wood textures compared to other textures, and pretty much only shows up on terrain and buildings to lesser or greater degrees depending on the type of texture.
Is that in one particular area or using a specific setting? Cause my shadows definitely don't look like that.
They have more important things to do like develop FINAL FANTASY XVI: ONLINE -F2P P2W-
Why would you play a game only for the graphics and not for fun? lol. Graphics are, contrary to popular belief, not everything. I take it some people in this thread have never played games on NES, atari or even a text based game where immersion was in your head. You must have no imagination. This is such a silly thing to groan about and get pissy over. I didn't know landscape inspector was one of the available jobs in this game.

You must also not think that at the time many of these systems (Text, NES, SNES, Arcade cabinet, yada yada) pushed the limits of graphical fidelity in their day and age. Hell there was a time when this was the god damned pinacle of character modeling.

Time moves on and our expectations grow. Especially when it's something that isn't really hard to do, as has been stated many times in the thread the issue isn't even with the low resolution textures themselves but the application of Paralax to those textures that make them go bonkers it's a graphical glitch and expecting it to get fixed isn't like we are demanding they reprogram the entire system of shaders so we can get a realistic reflection off of a ceramic pot.
Giving players optional high resolution textures hurts nobody and can only add to the overall game experience. I guess people want them to focus on the set of cash shop content first though...
We could always get the 1.0 "Low" settings back lol.
