Dragoon Poll (Should DRG have a Wyvern?)

Seeing that this is a fairly divisive issue, I'm going to save us some trouble and get some straight-up numbers.

Like this Post if you don't want a pet with the Dragoon.

For the love of feral's continuing sanity..for the love of all lance lovers out there...don't vote for a pet....PLEASE.

We already have one of these in the LNC forum

They should have viable customizable builds for both options, and more.

Tired of SE not getting it right, and it's already bad enough CNJs and ARCs got shafted with jobs, no need to shaft more classes.

I don't care what other people think, I care what lancers think! Hence why I put it in the Lancer forums

If it's going to split stats, I say no. Personally, I like options. Let those who want a wyvern split their stats, and those that don't want one, keep their stats. It's win/win that way. *shrug* But what do I know.

I normally don't reply to stuff in forums because its not my thing, but I read a lot of what goes on in here and I'm normally in agreement with your post. This time I think you should take your own advice and reread the dragoon article you linked.

The first appearance of the dragoon (dragon knight) is in FF2. They rode dragons, and I believe it states fought along side wyverns. Point is playable or not the wyvern dragoon combo has existed in the dragoon history before FF11; It is in fact ingrained into the first incarnation of the job.

This is true, but since then it has become more of the Freya/Kain Highwind version that has become the template for most Dragoons in the FF series.

Besides...aren't we getting Drake mounts? :D

How about a vote to wait and see what they want to do with Dragoon instead?

FFXI is to the best of my knowledge the only FF that actually let you control a Wyvern, so why not wait to see what they intend to do with the usual non-pet variety of Dragoon?

The point of this thread is to make it clear to the Devs what the players want BEFORE they make any mistakes that'll end up angering us. :P

Personally, I am against Dragoons having pets.

What if they just added a second job path down the road for LNC? Meaning Dragoon would be the traditional "dragon-slayer" while the Wyrmcaller works with a wyvern.

I would be open to that, especially if the Wyrmcaller was involved with Sharlayan. But I imagine there would be lore inconsistencies if players had access to both at the same time.

Yes you are correct in the Kain/Freya versions being the main staple to look to now (I'm super pumped the new dragoon armor looks to be Kain inspired). The point I was trying to get across is your FF11 argument had a hole in it, and you called some one ignorant;That they need to check their facts. Normally you put up decent statements to argue your points, but when you attack some one for doing something that you yourself should have done; It takes from the credibility of the points your trying to get across in your post. I'm not trying to attack you or anything I'm just trying to help out.

Being a THM main, I can attest to the lore inconsistencies of THM and CON's respective jobs, but it's happening.
Eorzea's going under some catastrophe involving Meteor and the Garlean Empire, so who knows what kind of strange alliances will form just to give sense to this change.

Respectable options for a wide variety of player styles and builds is my dream of Final Fantasy. ^^

people need to stop thinking its going to be like how FFXI's pet was, paper skin, huge recast, little control...for all we know it could be amazing. Give some skills we set, make it not die in a couple AoE's....its could be great, but of course people would rather see themselves do all the damage because in FFXI noone counted the pet damage.

Dumping everything the fans want based on previous entries has a high probability of stifling potentially creative and interesting ideas they might have implemented otherwise. What you and everyone else should want is just a "badass Dragoon", and let the devs handle the details.

I'm also against the idea of Dragoon having a pet simply because I want to see what new direction they might take the job to, but I don't want to eliminate the possibility of it having one as they might also do some creative stuff there as well.

You do realize I could care less about the Dragoon from FF11, right?

And I still stand by my statement about that other poster being ignorant.

And I appreciate you trying to help but I feel like you're trying to put a chink in what I'm trying to present - if you took into account ONLY Final Fantasy II, you'd have a valid point, but when you take all of known examples of Dragoon together, it's pretty clear that the poster has only played FFXI.

Good way to put it.

I want a badass dragoon. Not a paper-mache toy flapping like an annoying gnat next to me. :D

Meh to wyvern as pet, if they add wyvern as pet, they'd need to balance DRG all over again, which probably means they will be weaker than thay are supposed to be. I'd rather have DRG alone and a higher chance to tame a dragon/wyvern race when companion system arrived.

This is one of those things that detract from the credibility of said postings, but I digress. I'll shut my mouth, just go back to reading, and just hitting the like button if I see a good post. If I can't have my pet dragon without the stupid polearm, then I don't want any polearm-user to be allowed to have a dragon pet at all.

I vote yes, I want a pet. However if it's not to happen I don't really care. No QQing from me if they don't do it. Dragoon was/is good to me with or without a pet.

I think to please everyone Dragoon should not have a pet. Dragon Knight should be later introduced with a pet as Lancers second Job, when a new set of jobs are introduced.

I'll take my wyvren if you all don't take it away from me first... IF they fixed what was wrong with them in xi. First off, don't create only 1 skin for the wyvren. Give us some control over the way they look! Allow them to either start large or grow large so they can be rideable by dragoons. They don't have to copy how drg/wyvren worked in xi! I'm sure they have a plan on making the duo very fun to create combos with. ~~~ And just because Yoshi said they would have to weaken dragoons damage to incorporate wyvren dosnt mean they will suck in dmg. It could still be one of the best DD's if you just add both damages. The only thing I worry about most is the recast timer and how easily it dies from AoE. Recast 5 min = perfect!

I am a long time Dragoon (mainly Kain) fan, I played DRG for the longest in FFXI, even when it was the (loldrg) job and no one wanted it, I tried many combos before people even started using them (DRG/mage and even later DRG/DNC) I have always loved Dragoon, and I can not wait to see it in FFXIV, but I would like to see it without the pet this time, and I would love for Yoshi to try other means of using the job, dragon magic, breaths, lancet, all that. Now they could even add a pet, and I would be fine with it, but don't make the pet the only thing the Dragoon can do -.- and allow us a lot more control over it, rather then an AA whore like in FFXI

well that's just the NA forums, id like to see the JP forums. Personally i would like to see a pet, especially because of how it could set WAR from DRG other then one jumps and the other doesn't. Also still too many people who only think of FFXI as an example and dont think out of the box. I love the idea that it could grow and become a DRG mount....i would kill for that...my partner in crime and my ride...hell yah.

Exactly Zan! I'd like to have it as my job specific mount. This type of wyvren fits perfectly to my image of the drg/wyv duo. LINK

You can disagree all you want, ppl want Dragoon as it is like now.
