What happened to the Free Company alliance system?

It was killed by the wandering outdoor primals in FATEs.

I'd still really likes this because I have a small own FC but would be happy to work together with some other ones to do some content. The best I can do now is join a LS instead.

I would also like to know the fate of this system.

We already have this. It's called a linkshell.

I don't know what an alliance system can do in this game that a linkshell doesn't already allow. Perhaps the ability to use another FC's housing features, and that's about it.

it was mostly so Large (and i mean large) FCs can have sister FCs and still be "allied" so if you hit the member limit on the more bloated servers, you could still communicate as a whole through this FC alliance, Linkshells dont work for this particular circumstance, And Linkshells dont have the benefit of some of the UI elements that the FC one does. other then that, no real purpose

I would love to know as well. My static and I are spread between three free companies, two of which members hold positions of influence. And a system such as this would allow for easier communication and teamwork between the free companies, since while we are allies, we don't always see eye-to-eye in terms of free company management and how we wish to use our resources.

This and they had also talked about being able to summon Primals after defeating them, i am guessing this idea was also thrown out

Linkshells are inherently more limited becaase of the membership count.

I'd love to see FC alliances come along, there are a lot of smaller FCs, and medium sized ones who's members have friendships with other players creating a great deal of overlap. FC alliances would allow small/medium Free Companies to join forces in effect making them larger, without sacrificing their individuality.

I'm not sure that this was primarily intended to bridge a small number of large FCs together to work around the membership limits. I think that actually the idea was to allow several small or a few medium sized FCs to ally themselves and work together as one, without sacrificing their individual identity as difference FCs.

LOL, Indeed, we spend so much time worrying and wringing our hands over beast tribes summoning the primals, and then we defeat them. Why would we then turn around and do exactly what the beat tribes were doing, despite the knowledge we have of it's cost.

Yeah but SE's intentions, and how we as the audiance uses these features are usually pretty different :P I was just ocmmenting on how We as a playerbase would mostly use it. if you're a small FC, whats the point in rteaming up with naother small FC? that's more of a linkshell thing. to me the only use of an FC alliance is to get around the member limit.

Could've been a FF6 style thing, considering materia are in the game.

Lol LS are not the same as free comp ally's .... Not by a long shot. I'm 100% for them adding it and it need to come out sooner then l8tr. Make it so FC that don't have a house and ally with one that has one so they can use it too. 2-3 small FC can team up and still have there own way of running there guild.. But still use the same outline.bigger servers need this more!

Alliances are a good thing for those who have a small FC versus a large one. The smaller FC might not want a ton of members but at the same time, be able to call on a more larger, experienced FC to help them with progression or just getting together.

I'm all for the system. Can one of the community forum team answer this for us?

Shared FC Buffs-- Running around with every FC buff ever is silly, but 3 or 4 FC buffs, and the system already has weight to it. (Raiding + Crafting FC buffs on at the same time. Who wouldn't want that?! Just one example.)

Location-- A new chat. A link-shell could do as well, but perhaps many people don't have a slot they can give up. This fixes that problem.

These are just 2 example of how it could benefit many people if implemented.

Shared FC buffs means a hard restriction of 2 or 3 FC's per alliance, or something in place to make it not go so silly. Or hell! ALL FC BUFFS ALL THE TIME, ANARCHY!

I would like to ally my small FC with a friend's. Hopefully we can do this~

There was talk of having PVP style battles between friendly FCs & a multitude of great ideas. Imagine that all the homeless allied FCs could use the company workshop of the main FC but have a completely separate set of airships etc. That was the benefit. Effectively, any FC that was allied to one with a house had access to every bonus a house gives as if it were their own.

Linkshells have a 128 limit. So no its not called a linkshell. People are begging for FC limits to be raised because for some reason some groups like to have 1000+ people in a single FC (I dont understand this but to each their own). Having this would allow FC's with 512+ characters an FC to link all their members together. This is the solution people are looking for. It is also a solution for smaller FCs (or once medium sized and now smaller FCs to create a larger, more active group while keeping their smaller community intact.

Because it's nowhere near the same thing. We aren't whole-heartedly praying to the primal in question, and neither are we feeding it tons of aethercrystals to pull it from the other 'dimension' into ours. Though that doesn't mean there weren't other explanatory lore problems with the system... They could potentially, and logically, actually work.

As I understood the lore, having gone through the SMN quests fairly recently: First we are working with *primal energy* which Y'mhitra called the "ASPECT of the avatar," not the actual primals themselves. We used rituals which shift our own aetheric balance toward element of the primal in order to summon this shade, which becomes known as the primal-egi. (Egi meaning "the essence of.") We do not summon the actual primal (either to defeat it or after we have mastered it), we go to places where they have been or where there is similarly aspected energies to draw upon, and call out a shade with their likeness, made from our own internal aetheric reserves.

Second, we're bending this (initially hostile) 'energy' to our will by defeating it. We aren't asking it to protect us, we're commanding it, and if I recall and read the quest-text correctly, it has no choice but to obey as it has "submitted to your will." This isn't a "friendly fight to get the summoned monster to respect you" (as seen with Rydia in FF2/4) this is a show of dominance and then an overwriting of will. Y'mhitra says that you are the "master" of Ifrit-egi, and then you must claim Titan as "a servant." She also states "A summoner employs the savegry of the primals to conquer the primals themselves."

I'm curious as to whether this was why Tristian's enkindle didn't work - since he was not technically its master. Tristan was simply "given" the essence of the elder primal Belias-egi by the Ascians. Anyway, wrong forum for that question. :)

Third, some primals are simply too powerful overall (even when we can defeat the actual primal) to do this with. Because Ramuh-egi requires more aetheric reserves than we actually have, the summoning fails. (Which is why we get Trance, as a method of infusing ourselves with the essence of the primal, rather than trying to summon it externally.


All of that said, we have since: A) Absorbed power from Midgardsormr, B) Absorbed power from Hraesvelgr, and C) Grown more powerful overall. It's entirely logical for them to conclude that we are now strong enough to summon Ramuh-egi (though since it's just an appearance thing, they could give him similar/the same skill functions as Garuda), etc. They could also find that oops, we're now strong enough to summon up to Bismark, but there's an "unexpected" limitation where you can only have 3 active egis at a time. (Using a different egi than what you have could possibly require going back through the initial duty, for example, or could be as simple as selecting summoning spells "prepared," as mages do in D&D, in an interface with some item like the transmog system we already have.)

That said... I really want Carby back... ;.;

This was never really confirmed for a patch, just something they've talked about a long time ago. FC alliances were confirmed for a patch but just never showed up.

That looks amazing, can you imagine the multitude of FC dramas though when hundreds of people from each FC try hunt one down?

I imagine this is why they stomped out this idea as the maturity of hunts makes me question humanity itself.

Not to mention it'd be ten times worse than the early days of fighting Odin and Behemoth where the servers choked and you couldn't even see the targets.

They would definitely need to get better servers or else it would crash way to easily by overload in a single area. I would love to see this though. People have been clamoring for dangerous pve environments and this could take care of that. This game would be ten times more fun if it was implemented well.

Wait, I thought the only primal that we were going to be able to summon was Odin with a LB3, and that was if we defeated him.
