The new deep dungeon coming out in 3.35 reminds me of Aincrad from SAO. did anyone else think of sao when they heard this
Nope...never played that.
sao is an anime
Nope, reminded me of The Tower of Druaga :P
The "tower" concept isn't something SAO came up with.
It will be an interesting adventure, if it's like SAO. I won't get my hope up yet, because like what happen to Diadem...
Its just a rougelike.
A Roguelike system like Palace of the dead has been around as long as computer programming has.
It reminded me of the Cave of Trials from the Star Ocean series.
Like Archaell mentioned, this concept isn't particularly new or groundbreaking.
I have certain opinions about SAO that a fan probably doesn't want to hear.
But let's just say whatever Aincrad is I hope deep dungeon isn't like it
Aincrad was originally a 100 floor dungeon with a dynamic world management AI that would adjust mob/boss difficulty and skill sets in accordance to community and player progression. To keep things interesting and players challenged.
The story of SAO was built around the concept of a developer using a full immersion VR technology he created to make a VRMMORPG set in that kind of dungeon as a means to create a full living breathing world... by locking the players in it and simulating death by murdering the player when they died in game.
Which that was the good quality part of SAO in terms of story. The players adapting to becoming the denizens of that virtual world, while at the same time fighting tooth and nail to escape. Paying in the blood of their limited population to make progress against a world AI that just keeps upping the difficulty the farther up they went.
It was after that, when it got to ALO arc that it pretty much became a waifu/harem/incest simulator and kinda went to shit besides visual design. Story wise they brought Aincrad back and upped its difficulty since people no longer were murdered for dying in it.
Supposedly the series got better after the ALO stuff when they incorporated mysterious player deaths, and later after that player minds being copied to create military grade combat AIs.
It reminds me of Lufia. It
had a 100 floor randomized dungeon and you also started at level 1. Blue chest items could be carried in and out of the dungeon.
......PERSONA!!!
No, I thought of Devil May Cry's Bloody Palace mode where you fight floors of enemies with a boss fight every so often, because I don't associate this game with a mediocre anime about a Gary Stu who lives out every nerd's wet dream which inspires horrible name choices in the NA and EU servers.
If you want an anime with a universe similar to FFXIV or WoW, watch Log Horizon.
That said, I doubt a lot of SAO fans will manage to solo it.
SAO was trash, get at me.
Personally reminds me of the Forest of Death from dot.hack//GU. In lore, an endless dungeon only one person's ever beaten, but in gameplay, a 100-room dungeon where the last 50 floors have to be marathonned...to fight the God of Death at the very end. Fun dungeon!
Actually brings me nostalgia of those Endless Tower weekly runs in RO.
Congratulations you have now ruined it for me.
Freaking SAO with it's freaking ultimate wish fulfillment Mary Sue character. I want to punch him so hard.
More like Sphere 211 (211 floors) from Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time or Tales of Destiny: The Tower of Druaga (60 floors) or any game with floors.
Soooo many notable comparison's to choose from and you go with the worst MMO anime in recent history.
What a time to be alive.
Reminded me of the dungeon crawl in Dissidia.
Only reason it reminded me of SAO is because it was the last thing I remember'd that had a tower with bosses.
i hated sao anime so much struggled to get through the first 2 seasons hoping would get better then it goes to a shooter game im like really?? its sword art online n people running around with guns never watched it again :P and in all honestly the playstation games based on sao s**k so much
So Edda is now Izanami right?
Right?
Now that you mention it, it does sound alot like it.
Also I think almost everyone agrees that SAO sucks unless you're really biased towards it. The Aincrad story arc was a good IDEA. The execution was horrible. The characters are terrible. The villain is a joke.
The only thing good about SAO are the first two episodes, after that it became Harem-Hunt.
Flameshield activated.
KiritoNoctis Strife likes this post!
Item world?
Back in Dissidia it was called "Labyrinth". You basically started without gear and depending on RNG you could get gil, armor, start a fight, get different extras (buffs and debuffs alike, sometime you were forced to take a debuff) and increase the members of your party. With each little thing you'd advance until the end of the labyrinth. Sure was a pain completing it 100%.
Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking of, the Cave of Trials.
Just watch as the boss of the 200th floor of the Palace of the Dead is Edda in the form of the Ethereal Queen.
First thing I thought of was the Forest of Pain as well, always been a .Hack fan XD
