So, Pet Glamours

First, I'm excited we're finally getting them, SE. Though many of my friends and fellow players have been asking, and REALLY want to know:

Will this be a SMN-only privilege, or do their SCH compatriots and MCHs get to enjoy this too?

I personally would love an Magitek Bit/Allagan Node as my Rook/Bishop :)

I could be wrong, but I believe SCH may be getting Carby along with the SMN. As far as MCH goes, I don't believe they have been mentioned at all.

I would hope were not overlooked as turrets are treated like, and fall under the category, parameters, and functions of pets.

So far no word of SCH or MCH officially.
Egi glamors in general are happening in the first place because of SMNs not getting any new pets in 3.0, when it was widely expected that at some point they would. Instead of focusing development and balancing on making new pets and having them stand out from the current 3 pet system they choose to focus on upgrading and tuning up the SMN itself for 3.0 and help out the current 3 pets there. That being said the desire for new summons was still there (and many were angry of course lol) so it was revealed that they would make a glamour system to fulfill the classic idea of a SMN having many summons instead of just having 1 per role.

I'd hope mayhaps with enough suggestions and request that it will happen. To me it would make sense if they changed the turret looks depending on the weapon since its more of an additional weapon attachment. With faeries i can only think of like color swaps but I'm sure there are other designs that can be made to match them and some lore can be made to go along with it as Selene/Eos are their own entities unlike Egis being leftover aether formed by the Summoner.

I would like to be able to change the look of the fairy as well as a SCH. They didn't get new fairies either. I would love to be able to use a cute Carby.

SE termed the feature 'Egi Glamours', so that's enough indication in itself that it's a SMN-only deal. While it's possible, based on feedback, they may expand it to other Jobs their primary reason for doing this is to appease players that were expecting new playable Egi only be told they weren't going to get them in the end.

Except the difference is SCH's were never given the impression that they would get a second Fairy in the lead up to the expansion, unlike SMN.

I feel like its a waste of a system to limit it to SMN only, even if it's only SMN that gets new glamours, and the system only allows SCH to revert back to carby, that would be something. When you build a system like this, it makes far more sense (resource wise) to make it as open as possible, rather than limiting it to one job.

He recently said that it was more than they thought resource wise and that's why it will be one Egi per patch POSSIBLY starting with 3.4. So I wouldnt count on other jobs for the near future. BUT maybe it's more than they planned for this exact reason, to include the other jobs. Only time will tell.

Thats the point though, a little bit more work to make a far more accessible and used system is less "resource per head" intensive, which makes it more appealing to produce

I agree if they are going to do it they should do it right and include all jobs that have pets. Summoners had it the worst though due to all the primals ingame and not getting anymore. I'd rather them take the time needed to have the system for all jobs but they feel summoner is top priority atm.

I hope and pray they do carbuncle glamours for scholar.

But it wouldn't be fair to supply glamours to only half of the arcanists out there (summoner) and not to the other half (scholar).

Even though we choose different paths, we all share the same roots, and still remember where we came from.

Pet Glamour and SCH (Live Letter)

I would really like SCH to get carby, when/if SMN does. Later, when SMN has gotten their last actual egi, I would hope the dev team could see the positive impact the system has on pet classes, and expand more glamour options onto SCH (Fairy palette swaps, possible male fairy) and MCH bit options.

Personally, I want carby back. But allot of people want some other options, so if the devs are willing to give more people a shot at customizing their pet, more power and appreciation to them. :3

Will it be more than just a Egi Gloumor system though? Because I'm not sure I want Shiva Egi to just have the same attacks as Garuda Egi even if it is a glamour I want her to be unique and special. This hole Glamour Egi system just sound lazy to me like it sounds like they really can't be ass to put the work in and make decent new EGIs that have a real reason to be used. That's if I am correct about the whole system.

If SE wants to justify putting more resources into this, all they need to do is give us more Summoner-like enemies... If, for example, we get Snowcloak (Hard) in 3.4, that dungeon is going to need some bosses... Lets kill two birds with one stone, and have one of the bosses be Shiva-Egi, complete with a full host of combat animations ready for Summoner to get her through Egi-Glamours... Can apply similar thinking to the rest of the Egi and Carbuncle...

As for Scholar, it should actually be fairly easy to do... Healer and Support pet animations are fairly basic, and they can likely just copy the Caster pet animations (which Carbuncle already has) for a starter... I'd really like having a healer Carbuncle, I miss Healing Ruby...

I'd still like some confirmation on how exactly they're going to work the system though... I expect I'll be disappointed with how they chose to work it... I'd like an offhand item that determines my summon, but I suspect they'll just have us talk to an NPC to revert back to Carbuncle, with the red Carbuncle model for Summon III, which will probably kill any excitement I might have for the proper Egi-Glamour system, since it'll probably end up just being a case of swapping Garuda-Egi for Ramuh-Egi, for example...

I doubt that SCH is getting any love in the near-term. Giving SMN Carby is relatively easy - all the animations are already there for Summon and Summon II, with the exception of the Enkindle moves. They'll need to whip up some new animations for Summon III, but that's just one Carby to deal with.

For SCH, they'd need to create new animations for each of Selene's and Eos's moves.

I'm afraid you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. The new pet glamours are exactly that: glamour. They do not change the functionality of the pets any more than glamouring a swimsuit over your plate mail changes the functionality of the plate mail. Compare Emerald Carbuncle to Garuda-Egi - they have exactly the same moves with exactly the same effects, but perform them in different ways.

Most likely they will have different animations more appropriate to their appearance. For example, if Leviathan-Egi were to be the glamour for Titan-Egi, it might replace Mountain Buster (Titan spins, hitting nearby enemies for increased enmity) with Tail Whip (Leviathan swims in a circle, hitting nearby enemies for increased enmity). Earthen Fury would be replaced with Tidal Wave, leaving a pool of turbulent water instead of a pool of razed earth.

But brand new abilities with different effects? No, that is very unlikely. If they had any intention of doing that, they could have given us new summons altogether. No, SE has decided to go the route of building up the SMN herself, not the SMN's pets. It is quite likely that the three pets we have are all we're ever going to get, though it's possible we may one day get additional abilities for those pets (there's still four free slots on the pet crosshotbar, after all!).

Only summoner has a reason to receive more summon pets, but scholar and mech have none, other than, "If they get it, so should we." If you want to convince Square you need a stronger argument than the ones you are currently posting.

The reason why they are getting pet glamours is because during the 2.0 series Yoshi P. and the development team teased at Summoner's getting more summons, but when 3.0 came and summoners realized they are not getting new pets because of valid reasons they were a little discouraged. In time they asked for a Egi glamour system and square realizing their mistake agreed.

As a summoner, i think we are here because of the lack of new summons. Reverting back to something we had and laid aside, will not bring us anywhere we want. I mean, we grew, since Carbuncle; didn't we?
Will the phrase "Please, look backward to it." mean something? Nope!

If given the option I would take carby over the hot mess that is Garuda Egi anyday. But I'm looking forward to a shiva and leviathan Egi most but I'm sure they will be rolled into the stupid 3 roles we have so I will never get to use them whenever I want. I am HOPING they do away with the 3 roles for the glamour system because then they shouldn't bother with it at all.

Even before SE fell through on the "promise" that we'd be getting new Egi's, Summoners were asking for the ability to use Carbuncle in place of the Egi's. I don't believe that SE plans to unload a pile of Carbuncles on us and call it a day. They will most likely provide us with primal-themed glamours. However, because SMNs HAVE been asking for Carbuncle, and due to stuff like Ruby and Ebon Carbuncles appearing in certain instanced battles, I believe that SE does plan on giving us those, as well - particularly since, as I noted before, giving us Carbuncle back takes very little work to accomplish.

My prediction is that on the first update, we'll get our pack of Carbuncles. On subsequent updates, they'll give us a new Primal-Egi each update until we have them all, and then in the future add additional Primal-Egis each time a new Primal is released. (I confess, though, that that may be a bit optimistic on my part; they may simply stop after adding Ramuh, Leviathan, and Shiva - but I'm pretty sure we'll get at least those.)

So seems like summoner is no longer about pets at all. It's only main reason why I levelled summoner all the way 50 once I get it to level 60. That's it for me when it comes to that Job. I love summoner because of the pets. But in this game they have just become something I never thought would happen. In a FF game I'm very said about this. The Summon system could of been so much more.

I think the main reason why everyone wants SMN to be able to summon Carby is because it's the only summon that looks decent and looks like a real summon. Even with the law of Egi's the design of them could of looked like Carby, when I say this I mean the fact that Carby doesn't look like a hot mess. SE really messed this up.
