If it is indeed a thing I'll be disappointed of all past FF bosses to include they go with a Marble. How uninspiring.
We're going to be fighting a giant jawbreaker? Yum!
This Jawbreaker caused a lot of suffering to people who know who this boss is, sure he'll be watered down here but players of IX know he wasn't something to be taken lightly just because of his appearance, there's actually a bit of lore as to why he looks like a sphere.

I wonder if a lv1 DRG can solo :p
is the boss inside the ball?
Well of course FF14 is gonna have it scripted. Ozma in its original incarnation is basically RNG: The Boss. What it does can either not do too much to you or can kill you on its first turn as soon as the battle starts. It's no wonder that people can beat it at LV1 while others feel more comfortable beating him at LV 99.
Ozma is power lost form. Eidolons like Bahamut are given praise and are legendary each generation. So powerful that those who don't understand summoning would covet his power. Akin to ffxivs primal system, this bolsters Bahamut's own power through the praise and desire people have for him.
Ozma, like carbuncle, would not settle with the summoners of gaia, and would need to be sealed away. Ozma is so powerful that they sealed him away, in parts of the world lost to humanity and its history. It's power lost form. It's identity homogenized with the colors of the heavens and clouds surrounding it. It grew beyond a form that the people had originally called for and became ozyma: The faceless Eidolon that would not disappear and would not be mastered.
The Lv 1 solo trick is total cheese and takes advantage of Ozma's AI, forcing it to waste turns, and essentially killing itself with Doomsday. Anyone truly wanting to take on Ozma will do so the way the game's designers intended you to. He is arguably one of the most difficult FF super bosses to beat in comparison to others due to the reactive based turn system. If you want to face him at full difficulty, then don't use the item that forces Ozma to take shadow dmg, and leave the ATB on 'active'.
I don't think Ozma would be as difficult for today's players who are already used to proactive/reactive real time gameplay. Back when 9 came out, the turn based system if left on 'wait', allowed you to think about what you want to do next. Fighting Ozma with the setting on 'active' is probably the closest to what we experience in instances today.
Marble? I always said Ozma looks like one of those little balls you get out of prize toy vendors.
I wonder if FFXIV will change it and transform Ozma during the fight? I mean we all know from lore point of view why Ozma looks like that, so maybe they will spice it up? Otherwise, I do think it looks very bad tho, even if this boss was a huge pain back in the day.
Depends on where/when we fight it in the Weeping City raid.
I want, I want! Part of me wants it to be an epic mega super world boss thing seeing that picture. XD
Anyone who faced Ozma is intended will certainly feel a pang of fear, it was genuinely nerve-wracking in its day. Depending on how they implement the Eidolon it could be the best fight yet.
If it's in The Weeping City of Mhach then its going to be much easier than in FFIX but if so I would like to see an Extreme version of it as a trial. It should be amazing, providing it's not tuned poorly. As a curve-ball it'd be fun if they made it (the EX trial) solo/pair queue only, to shake things up & prevent long established statics having all the fun before everyone else. ;P
If we're getting ozma then Hades is coming. But I want him as a extreme trial.
Oh Gods. Ozma was the first superboss I actually beat without a guide of any sort. Mostly because I also ran into him while playing Chocobo Hot and Cold. I don't remember how many hours I spent fighting it or what tactics I used... except I remember throwing a LOT of phoenix downs at it for some reason.
I loved Ozma!! i hope it has its level 4 holy, level 5 death, curse, doomsday... and a curaga superheal that will heal itself if we mess up its mechanics... why?... because its Ozma :3
Basically... make it the annoying RNG orb that we all remember and despise :)
It's been so long since I played IX that I can't remember if I took on Ozma or not. I THINK I did though. I want to play the game again SO bad, but because of the whole PlayOnline thing I won't be able to get all the secrets. If anyone knows of a site that has them AND has the markers that the guide used, could you IM the link to me please? I so want to play the game again. :)
I'm so slow, I just noticed they attempted to simulate the FF9 battle screen with that ozma picture. Pretty cool.
It will have wipe mechanics... they did include level 5 death in WOD. so that one is a possibility... all of its mechanics have been included in the 24 man raids... flare, holy, status effects ... just not all on one individual boss... They probably wont include its self heals... because it would make more sense to wipe us...
it makes no sense to use superbosses so early, maybe make it a final savage boss in 5.0, I get the ultima weapon because we could only beat it with the blessing of the goddess.
I never said they wouldnt. "They Probably wont" They can do whatever they want. but in all these 24 raids, its mostly mechanics to stop its 1 shot moves... I think adding one that has him restore his HP would be amazing, because that means ppl cant just go afk fight, or be lazy... Ozma is known for being a pain in the butt... but if they wanted a real Ozma fight they should have made it a primal, since its technicly a Eidolon... adding it the 24 raid means its not going to be as difficult, but it will be a challenge at first.
