Why are we wimps?

Why are our characters such Wimps according to the story? In the main story line we r wimps and im currently finishing the Marauder storyline, where i two shot Moenskyte the honorbound, and i still have to wait here for it to tell me i lose. Why are we predestined to lose every fight? The MRD storyline in general doesn't make me feel good about the class... Would it kill them to make us feel atleast a little badass in the scheme of things?

That sucks. In the THM storyline they let me beat a guild traitor's ass until they showed up and carted her off to be, as far as I can tell, executed. That felt pretty nice.

I agree though; none of the stories make me feel like I was actually of any USE to anyone and then next time I show up they're like, ANONYMOOSE! OUR HERO!

For what? Why weren't you this excited when I was doing what you asked me to?

Aye, the Gladiator storyline let me beat some Ala Mighan arse. No complaints here.

We're just mere adventurers -- we may have 'echo', but we're still just mere adventurers, not a god/goddess or world savior (yet) nor anything special at this point in time, but the storyline is also changing.

In the grand scheme of things we don't know the full storyline, but like most FF games, we're just regular people starting out (even look at XIII, they didn't really get 'badass' till after they've been branded.)

Except he's so tiny and easy to beat I felt really bad about it... like I was kicking a puppy...

I've yet to come across a quest fight that is anything remotely close to challenging... it's still that blurred line of accessibility to engagement. They don't want the content to seem exclusionary some how... so they make it insultingly simple.

yep. doing a paragon with warcraft, we aren't the heroes: we are the peones :P

Well i finally got to beat on some pirates but the thing that made no sende was i couldnt beat the guy alone, but him and 2 lackeys im able to win against? The whole MRD storyline just makes me feel confused and like im just being lead around by a drunk lol very underwhelming.

ya thats true i understand that. But i really hope the storyline changes o i can atleast feel good about my character lol. I dont play games to just be a normal person i can do that outside lol

I'm betting that it will, I bet even the original scenario had you becoming so much more of an adventurer than we start out as. We have not gotten much in the way of Main Story in some time, it has been horizontal development for the most part. This can be attributed to the drastic changes though.

As far as us having the echo. We aren't nearly as persecuted as that person from the Twelve warned. Clearly she was pulling our legs, unless further events prove otherwise.

i wouldnt be surprised if they had us go kill rats while NPCs took care of meteor lol

Are there any story quests that present a battle that is actually challenging? This is a serious question. Every battle I have fought in the story has been a complete joke. :(

If things will turn out any way like they did in FFXI, you'll be useless/get your ass beat during cutscenes until the very last part of the storyline where you suddenly become important (coughCoP). WoTG changed that by finally making you a major character throughout the entire story, complete with fighting your "doppelganger" from an alternate reality.

As far as Echo persecution, it's not that the early threats were worded badly or unjustly bigged up - they're just on hold for the moment. The lore needs to work up to the calamity right now.

hahaha besides, my original post had no spoilers besides a useless characters name that is probably never gonna be seen again, everyone else chimed in with all the spoilers hahaha. so technically my OP didnt need a spoiler alert.

The Marauder story line is actually one of the more badass class story line's in the game. Did you actually finish it all before you made a post complaining about it? Me thinks no...The Archer one is pretty good too.

I thought the ending was pretty good. You still get to look like a the hero at the end. To each their own I guess. Maybe the next storyline chapter they write will make you superman and let you split the planet in half with your axe. Since that's seems to be the kind of story you're into. lol

Wow your quite good at sarcasm and being rude...I'm not asking to split the world with my axe. Im asking for just a small sprinkling of epic in my story quests. And you dont look anything like a hero at the end it just lets you know you got a lot ahead of you. And im sorry i waited to long to complain maybe ill do it on your time next time. the storyline had me killing rats, following around a drunk and getting beat up by pirates, then magically im able to take on 3 of them after getting beat by just one. It just wasnt entertaining to me, sorry i offended you oh White Knight of Eorzea! I bow to you and beg your forgiveness for not loving everything!

I think we should play a bigger roll in cut scenes overall. I feel more like an extra or someone who just happens to be there. Like a 3rd wheel or just somebody watching..

Needs more immersion. Let our characters get more involve devs. yes I used that word..

Couldn't care less how the story makes us look, but the battle system in general doesn't make me feel that strong. I don't know, but when i compare it to other MMORPGs or even offline RPGs i played, I just don't have that feeling of power.... it may be i'm just too demanding. Anyone else shares that feeling?

but we are just at the beginning of the storyline??? we need to evolve and get stronger.. with level 40 im not a "hero"..

the story just hasnt really begun... the conflict between eorzea and the "judges" i mean. we only saw the "introduction" to the real business. the day will come, when we as the strong heros kick the asses of the garlean empire. i mean isnt a final fantasy about "becoming" a hero?

at first we have been a little new unimportant adventurer... then we became a member of one of the grand companies... there we can gain titles and so on.
we're going to be stronger and stronger.

when we killed ifrit the first time in the end we see this "white judge" but we arent strong enough for now to compete against him.

isnt that normal for a rpg?

I feel like that...I feel im the random npc that joined the party and is not really important at all.

so true. my npc is such an eye sore in cut scenes..

There will be plenty more job quests to do when the cap is raised. The entire idea is to start at the bottom, and become the Paragon of *insert class* Excellence your character was destined to be. The level 36 quest is likely just the halfway point at very best.

Just be glad you didn't do the Pugilist one. First quest has you picking up change thrown on the floor from some rich asshole who owed the guild money, second involves being used as a part of some conspiracy. I assume the 36 quest resolves this, because man is it unsatisfying being an errand boy.

But.. just for now... what do you want to be with almost lv 15 or so? the biggest hero the world ever saw? i mean at first we were just an unimportant "new adventurer"... later on we joined the grand companies... gaining titles and so on.

but you cant expect to be the ultra hero from lv 15 or even lv 50 on? while the npc have been heroes, when we get started into the game... we are just lv 1 unexperienced adventurers who almost know nothing about anything. (we got rescued by the Story non-playable characters)

so what do you expect to be with lv 50 which isnt the maximum level cap at all? what did you expect? they will implement more story content when the level cap is raised.. and we get more into the "final endgaming part" ... what we have for now is just only likely the beginning/the introduction or middle part of our way becoming a hero within the story.

For example when we met this "white judge" in a cutscene after the battle against ifrit, for the first time... but we cant compete against him yet and needed to escape. i think the day will come, when we're going to have a battle against those garlean "judges". after the level cap is raised.

the bosses and battles will get more epic the more we evolve in level.


what we have within the story content now is just the start

i mean remember how it was in FF11..

thats EXECTLY what its about! you got it "man" (in contrast to most of the others in this thread)

Pretty much what Tonkra and Nanaya said. All great heroes start at the bottom. Right now our talents are being discovered and we are merely being awaken. I'm sure things will kick off, but I take that we have to wait through the "impending danger", 2.0 or maybe even the first expansion pack before things really start to kick off.

Ya your probably right but my complaint also encompasses the main story as well. And just cause they have us starting at the bottom doesnt mean they cant have an epic quality to it. One that makes you actually care where everything is going. Like you said i hope it is just the beginning and the rest blows me away.

all characters evolve during the story.. yuna as an unexperienced summoner or rikku as a foolish kid.

and why you get the impression nobody cares about you in personal? they ask you do complete missions for them, you receive an own companion to your side. but still, you are not that strong and experienced .

yes i understand a character must develope but here is my point, to use FFX as an example as well. Right from the start you are thrust in to this epic telling of a huge story of massive importance. Everything that is happening around you is epic and makes you feel like you are in for one hell of a ride. The quests dont give me that kind of a feeling. "Go to this tower and kill a bunch of rats!" doesnt make you actually care about the story. I guess what I'm saying is the hook needs to be stronger.

There's a pretty big discrepancy, though. Even by level 25 in FFXI we were out saving children and killing dragons. Sure, we weren't god-slaying yet, but we clearly stood out as people who would someday have the potential to. We're at Rank 36~50 and we're not even clearly BETTER THAN ANYONE yet. I'm not saying we should be out there trumping the company leaders in combat but... idk... maybe like, beating up more than a goat ... would be nice... something people will actually cheer on.

I feel like I'm still Level 10 in FFXI, out killing bats and bringing back teeth to prove I'm not TOTALLY incompetent.

Biggest thing we took on was, what, the Juggernaut? And our BIGGEST accomplishment in that entire fight was being able to outrun a missle that gave 30 seconds warning. We didn't even get to take it down. AND at least one of the three people I was there to kill escaped.

well an other example i do remember Final Fantasy 8 ..you cant say at first that you play an important role first as "Squall"... you are first a typical student of the balamb garden.. your first "real" mission is to do a silly "patrol" on this island. where we all and all get slowly more driven into the story.

Offline rpgs are much more story driven than MMorpgs...

MMorpgs are more drawn into the lenght than singleplayer games. because Online rpgs entertain also with group gameplay, crafting and so on. an Offline Final Fantasy keeps the gamers only playing to give one story highlight after an other.

Actually you kill a dragon during your rank 3 quest which is done around 25

And no; I don't want to save Eorzea from the Empire or beat down Van Darnus yet. I just want to fight something where the outcome of the battle makes people say something other than, "HEY, HE'S NOT DEAD!" The company quests have helped this a LITTLE. I beat up a crowd once, sealed up a hold into the void by dropkicking a demon, and beat up an already weakened Ifrit (didn't bother with Hard Mode). However, as for quests and the main storyline, our true identity, not our patriotism, has racked up the following as their highest achievements by the 33% mark:

Lancer: Stab an (1) elemental.
Gladiator: Wound (1) homeless Ala Mhiagan
Pugilist: Punch (2) mages (one with each fist?)
Archer: Make an archer who is having a bad day have a worse day after he can't even outrun you because he's surrounded.
Marauder: Not get killed.
Thaumaturge: Roast a lalafell (Okay, this one's not so bad. I guess. She had a bad attitude).
Conjurer: Drown three dogs (What is this, the NFL?)

Main Story: Not get outrun by three imperials, not get shot by juggernaut, escape with life intact.
