Inn Room Functions

Something that's been bothering me lately is the fact that I can't craft, repair, or dye in my Inn Room. Now while it makes sense from a lore perspective that these activities would be too loud and would disturb the other guests in their rooms; why is it then that I can invite NPCs into my room via Summoning Bell and Crystal Ball; as well as blast music through the Orchestrion. Surely the Orchestrion alone is louder and more disruptive to neighbouring guests than the 2 seconds it takes to repair one's own gear?


Is it really too much to ask if dyeing, and repairing could be unlocked while in Inn Rooms?
(Materia melding and crafting make perfect sense for being too loud... but not while you can blast the Orchestrion which could easily drown the noise out).

Smashing ingots however, carries a lot more penetration in it's sound.

Wasn't this a carry over from 1.0? IIRC, it was in place to discourage craft bots. With the introduction of lockable personal housing and rooms where people can craft or dye as they wish, I see no reason why they shouldn't lift the restriction on inn rooms. Eul makes an excellent point also. :3

They should have made inn rooms into personal housing

If you really want to bring a real life point in here to make your case, well then...There's a difference in noise level between casual conversation or the exchange of items between two people/haircut, and outright explosions of crafting and material making. There's also a difference between appropriate music volume for music as well. You can control the volume of music, you can't control the necessity of noise used for crafting/manufacturing. Since dyes in reality are considering a crafting process, as is repairing (banging dents out of your armour, for example), those will probably still be considered heavy noises.

OP's the one bringing up the case of 'lore' where she argues that abilities that we can currently use are comparatively 'louder' than what we can't do, so we should be able to do all those other activities. I'm only stopping that perception as it isn't true.

Technically speaking, the inn room is sort of the 'fast load' area of the game i.e. the lowest memory usage. I, for one, sometimes will use the inn room for load times in and out of DF when I'm playing on my lagtop, simply because the restriction of abilities and zones makes the loading times far quicker than outside. As retainers and aesthetician are loaded on demand, rather than already existing in the area, they don't stress the inn room area enough to make an impact on people who use it for the fast loading concept. These little things do matter; in a farm party and you're taking longer than the queue time to load in? Yup, I'm going to the inn to make that time faster.

So alas, we must restrict the convenience of players crafting and dyeing in inn rooms to preserve the lore and immersion for people who wouldn't know people are crafting and dyeing in inn rooms anyways.

Doesn't make any sense to me personally, but oh well.

People who care THAT much about roleplaying and immersion won't craft in an inn room anyways.

And the people who do craft and dye in one in practice won't disturb the people who care about it because the people who care won't know they're doing it in the first place.

Agreed, it's not true.

My reply to your quote wasn't so much directed at your comment as it was to the general reader. Apologies if it seemed like I was disagreeing with your noise point.

I've only brought up similar discussions in the past, with lore/immersion being used as the only defense against being able to do more in inn rooms. I don't really buy into this defense, for the reasons mentioned above.

So true....so true....I'd get my 45 days of waiting done (since relinquishing it doesn't give money back...strangely enough) and settle in my inn room. I'm fine with a small room with some customization.

This has always bothered me, so much.. Its a house, built by the Free Company, and Owned by the Free Company, on a plot of land, which is owned by the Free Company.. So if you HAVE to pay for a room (which should technically be decided by the Free Company), shouldn't the money then go to the Free Company? Maybe be automatically deposited into the FC Chest?

I mean I understand that it cost money to build things, or to add extensions to a house... but 300k?

I know they are using it as a way to remove excess quantities of Gil from the game, but it just doesn't make sense to me..

300k is nothing though, I can get that in one or two weeks (at most) without removing money from my retainer.
Just by doing my roulette everyday and doing some challenge log (i do 15 more or less every week, without even trying to do them specificly)
Hint : do roulette as the role in need (AKA tank ;p) you'll get 5-10k bonus per run.

300k is nothing for you, but it might be a lot for others. Either way, it's 300k that has one major issue: they can be easily wasted if you leave a FC and unless you are the bestest of best friends with them, I can guarantee you that you'll leave your FC one day, leaving those 300k you've wasted (yes, wasted: because they're not coming back, and they're not going to the FC). At one point I would like to ask: what's the point of wasting 300k for a room when you KNOW you'll eventually leave?

As a matter of fact, I haven't seen a single player in my previous FC buying a room: they're not that stupid!

Plus think of this way: free rooms for a FC = more people joining for that. Some people would like a personal space to decorate and stuff but 300k it's just too much for something that can be easily removed. If it was free, people would have an additional reason to join a FC: free rooms for everyone, everyone will want to join a FC (with housing, of course) and eventually it could grow bigger. It's simply win-win with zero drawbacks.

Besides, there SHOULD be better ways to make gil sink ("cough" glamour "cough").

As for me, with my house I have everything I need (repairs, aesthetician, armoire, and I even have a MB right in front of me), so in my case "what's the point of joining a FC?" Those 2 daily buffs that are barely noticeable?

PS: if someone says "easy grouping", linkshells are better.

PPS: yes this was offtopic but my point remains: make inn rooms more useful!

Currently the Inn rooms are identical for each player it's sort of a micro-instance where the same room is used for everyone. To make them personal housing would require wholesale change to things. Plus Inns are available very early on, and are free. You can access your own retainers aesthetician, armoire, toybox and orchestron, without purchasing housing.

Didn't I read a post from a community manager or Dev where they more or less offered contrition about the impact of 3D spacial audio with the Orchestron? I think they said it would change for the better at some point?

All FCs have a company bank, it should not be beyond the ability of most non-trivial free companies to pay the 300K for players who can't afford it. Heck, make it a rank achievement reward for continued loyalty to the FC. I've been thinking of doing that in my FC going forward, I think it's a decent idea.

Even if they didn't allow actual crafting in the inn room, it would be nice if they'd at least let us repair and glamour items there.

Repairs because each time we try to add something to the armoire and get the error that it can't be added because its condition isn't at 100%, we have to exit just to do the repair and then return to the inn room for a second attempt to put it away. That sort of interruption can get annoying.

Glamour because we have items in the armoire to use for glamouring. I'll generally want to get the item out, glamour it, and put it back. But that's currently go into the inn room to fetch the glamour item, then exit to glamour it, then return to the inn room to put the glamour item away. Again, the back and forth is annoying.

Crafting might have some back and forth with our retainers if we don't plan out the ingredients in advance well enough, but retainers are available in plenty of places that allow crafting. For many (most?) players, however, if they don't have a house with an armoire, then the armoire items are only available from the inn room. So it would be nice if activities (like repairs and glamour) that we want to do with armoire items were possible from there.

Exactly and that would have made them perfect. Unfortunately SE messed up big time with the farse that is housing. Personal chambers should have had nothing to do with being in a FC; FCs should have only provided an entry point and not linked to the chambers. SE need to pause development of it and rework it from the ground up; we need FF14: Housing Reborn.

I think a similar system to how Black Dessert does it would have been better. There you chose any available house you want as there can be multiple instances and it's close to seamless but still instanced.

Gil sinks don't need to make sense to you, they need to make sense to the economists hired by SE.

300k is nothing, you can make 300k very easily without ever touching crafting or gathering, if you're getting kicked from free companies that often there are other things you probably should be worrying about.

And for the OP, they gave a lore reason just so it makes sense for roleplayers, but that's not the real reason, someone in the first page already stated what's the real reason, inn rooms are meant to be low resource instances, there's absolutely no need to take server resources from the rest of the game just so you don't have to click two buttons and leave the inn room to craft something.

I assume they are like FC chambers without the FC.

It's not exactly neccessarily having to do with the INN per say, but on the topic of the Armoire....I wish it would hold "Augmented" artifact 1 gear....my augmented Temple attire and augemented Drachen, and augmented Warrior's gear....don't fit into the armoire anymore T_T

You'll just have to get a private chamber, I think.

Only if they bring only 1 apartment house for the whole server instead of 1-2 in each ward.

500 rooms * 2 apartment houses * 4 housing areas * 16 wards and mirrored wards = 64.000 rooms on 1 server (if they bring 2 in each ward)
