White Mages/Black Mages and The Feast

Hello, I heal as Astro in The Feast (Solo) and i'm trying to find ways to make my healing better.

I'm having a bit of trouble when my opponents are White Mage or Black Mage, I've had this trouble a lot in the past but it didn't start to pick up until todays update. I'm assuming because of the 15% dps needed to interrupt spells it is a lot easier to get a Repose or Sleepga off now.


The enemy Melee DPS and Tank just ignore me completely and then the WHM or BLM just sleep me while bursting down my DPS while i'm asleep. Most of the time I cant even purify because at the start of a match they try to stunlock burst me down and then when I waste purify just sleep me and leave me alone.

I've tried to make my teams more aware that Purify can be used on teammates but many people I've teamed up with today never use it on me when i'm sleeping.

Is there anything I can do to combat this myself? Is there anything I can say to my teammates to make them more aware of sleep?

I've tried pillar hiding a lot when I see a WHM/BLM and that seems to help is there anything else I can do?

I need help badly because i'm starting to feel like I should just fight fire with fire and swap to WHM for PvP ( T _ T )

When I'm playing Warrior, I Focus Target my healer just for Purify purposes. I see the CD is up, quick check to see if it benefits a lob; very seldom is it needed for a self cast when you're the tank.

Tell your entire team to roflstomp the (buffed) enemy blm until its in a bloody pool. If they comply...sleeping you will be a little lower on the enemy healer's agenda.

Maybe just make a macro (or just type it into party chat). I never knew purify could be used on other party members either! That's amazing and I will now be doing this more often! Or perhaps just make mention about the purify before the match starts in that minute prep time.

Then you're gonna get slept by the enemy WHM. With teh changes to interrupt, 15% is quite a bit hp for one player (let alone a tank, or brd/mch) to get through for any interrupts. You need to focus fire or otherwise use dps cooldowns to be able to interrupt the casters. Thats where the problem with a WHM+BLM team comes in; you can't focus both of them reliably so, sepesically when the later has access to two means of instant casting their AoE-sleep.

I fought an amazing Paladin( I wish I could remember their name...) last night, and he did a great job ping ponging between me and the healer, their stuns were well timed to major casts, and when the resist built up, they would save their big hits from their rotation(build up combo on healer, smack me for sleep/Fire4; build up on me, smack healer before their medica) to subdue us. Granted it wasn't the lock down it used to be, but like any change, it's adaptable and I honestly believe more people will enjoy playing casters, more tanks/melee will adapt, and hopefully more new ppl will join the rank and file.

That sounds more like bad play on the side of the Blm and healers. Like you mentioned, there's plays around that and your circumstances wouldn't be different; a pld being able to jump between two jobs that both have a bind and sleep, as well as means of an instant cast is extremely far fetched unless there were other circumstances behind it.

As you mentioned in another thread, it subtracts the value of a role from jobs that previously relied on heckling the casters, and the effects of some spells (or the game, even) aren't nessescarly adjusted around that.

I wouldn't go so far to say it subtracts; I still enjoy Warrior PVP immensely, just that it takes more than going through my SE combo and interrupting the caster every Heavy swing, Maim, and Se hit landed to achieve the results I want, and I'm ok with that.

I can see some changes to Tanks(not just DRKs) actions within PVP come 3.25, even if it is something as simple as Brutal Swing(and the other tank roles equivalent) not being subject to resists, or SE/SoulE/RoyalA having a casting interrupt attached to their tool tip.

At one point, we had double Blackmages with b2b 30 second sleeps in old Fold(you wanna talk about a lockdown; this is why I lvl'd a BLK xD) and they reduced it to 15 secs within PVP. Even though this game wasn't designed around PVP, they can differentiate what actions do inside and outside of PVP. I hope(no, I believe #yoshiP) that the following weeks we will see more adjustments to cater to all the player base, I even forecast that interrupt HP will be dropped to 10% come 3.25, along with additions to all tank interrupt ability.

Like Miasma losing its Heavy, just a tack on a tool tip for a couple tank skills would do wonders for the role.

A warrior not so much, they can push the interrupt threshold a bit more reliably than a paladin (having fell cleave as another means if the need arises for example), and their focus has always been more emphasized on burst damage as pressure rather than hard locking. MCH/BRD on the other hand, really have no say in the matter since none of their weaponskills push 200 potency, and you're looking at interrupting cast times with a cast time . While I agree that it shouldn't take a sneeze to interrupt casts (to the point of tomahawks), having a 15% threshold is a bit too much in consideration on how influential some abilities are like cure 2 healing half your hp, or sleep affecting all of the melee that's smacking your healer, and in general really shifts the attention to WHM/BLM (which IIRC, the developers wanted to do away with the typical "shoot the healer" strategy)

They could just do away with interrupts in general, and give current silence abilties a functionality that prevents spell casting and locks them out of said spell for a period of time (similar to pacification). Either that or just adjust the sleep duration on sleep, it's too long in relation to how easy it's to get it off:how hard it is to interrupt

Single target sleep is OK but it would still be nice if it was adjusted. However full duration AoE sleep is a huge problem, a coordinated team will make full use of the window sleep spam creates to burst down a target. By the time that team recovers sleep resistance effectively resets and the cycle can begin again.

AoE sleep + medals rework is what I'm hoping for in the next changes.

I do agree silence abilities on range phys dps need a rescaling; a 5sec, 3, 1 would work. That would give the two classes more dynamics, I find on mch that I use suppressive fire more unless my burst is ready/the silence prevents a heal on the burst target.

Supressive fire's animation lock as a oGCD is a bit too long to acutally pull anything off, not to mention the use of a stun DR can be detrimental. Honestly, the two are effectively the same in what they accomplish against casters, except supressive is a poor choice when the melees (excluding nin, but they're practically on the same boat with the stun/silence), save for the very infrequent occasion where you need to stun down a chaser and you won't really need the stun DR for the next minute. I've actually had less success with getting BtE off through supressive fire due to the timing differences, and the offchance that you'd get LoS'd on your stun and you queue up for BtE instead.

This^^ BtE is ridiculously hard to get off with suppressive fire. I always save my bind for burst, which puts my heavy on CD. It's kinda lopsided that one of best pvp moves requires a combo that we can only effectively use with one of the three required actions.

Suppressive fire/Head graze need at least a 3second duration, or the animation has to be redone. Currently, SF cannot stop a combo by itself, I have to follow it up with stun gun to break even a ninja combo when I'm being tailed.

If you're getting your purify baited by a stun lock burst, then having all those bursting dps switch off of you and onto another target while you get sleep-locked...That's a more coordinated team than I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing in Solo Queue.

Whenever I see a team with a White Mage or Black Mage, I ask the tank to save his Purify for me, so when I get slept he will purify me first.

Other things you can do is try to line of sight and creep out to just toss a heal then go right back behind a wall. Make sure you focus target the Black Mage or White Mage so you can see when they start to cast sleeps.

Remember, a White Mage casting Sleep is wasting his own time and not healing too. A Black Mage wouldn't be doing damage while trying to sleep you so less pressure on your team too.

Save your personal purify for emergencies, like your allies are dipping low while slept and you need to get out and heal them.

Sleeps good, but with this new mode where allies revive and you get a second chance, it makes it a tad bit weaker than it was in the Fold.
